I have the digital coax connecting coming from my sound card to my surround sound system (Z-5500). That provides the audio. The video is provided through HDMI connection from my PC's graphics card to my TV.

Hope that helps clarify my setup,

It does. I have so many RWY cables that I tend to split off the yellow when I need to test a video signal from something old. Thanks, and have a great day.

I was playing around with the DLNA server stuff, and did find one side-effect of 'showing' a server: The TV does not go into deep sleep. It remained in DAM. I had to 'hide' the server, and it then went to deep sleep after 5 minutes.

Are you sying it will never enter .13w standby mode if there is a visable DNLA server? I don't mind using my Kill-A-Watt if I have to, but my power cable is hard to reach.
I think it's if you have a server set to 'SHOW', it never shuts off. My computer was turned off, but the TV never went to deep sleep. As soon as I changed it to 'hidden' and turned it off, I heard the power-click 5 minutes later and the active light on the Ethernet switch went out.

Thanks. I'll check it out tonight. I just noticed when on, the 32EX700 draws 60 watts. Every watt counts these days.

So I found .1w this morning. Everything was off and hidden. Next test is visable and powered off. It's not so simple since my WNDR4000 router is also a DNLA server. I enabled only TV Guide today so far, since my clock was dead this morning.

12/21 update:

I have two DNLA servers "shown" and one runs 24/7. I have TV Guide enabled. I still can't prevent the TV from going into standby power mode after a few minutes from hitting the switch. Anything else I can check?
Thanks for the updates on standby power. I've added my monitor to a switchable power strip; 0 watts when switched off. My DSL modem is also on this switch, along with my D* box.
I've been reading about the updates and don't believe I have updated the tv from the day I purchased it. I have it wired in through a power line to get internet. I was wondering how do you put the TV in standby mode so the firmware can be updated
post #3549 of 3675
LOL NVM dumb question, I figured it out!!!LOL

You do know there is a big power switch that acts like pulling the plug? It's on the bottom. The standby switch is on the top.

Indeed. But this way I kill all three devices with one switch.

You do what makes you feel good. I checked and found to watch a movie uses about 400 watts. The 32EX700 uses 60 watts when on. I have the presence sensor enabled, so I probably have saved a few cents after falling asleep. I tend to leave my cable modem, DSL modem and router alone. They don't bother me and I don't bother them.
Actually the D* box is the big standby power hog that should be shut down every night.
Killing the modem/router gives me a new address every day but doesn't save much standby power.
One of the big selling points for my 60 EX700 is the low power consumption, especially compared to the LCOS arclight I used to have. I measured about 100 watts last time I checked the EX700, the old LCOS was at least three times that and heated up the room to boot.
But I did not measure standby power consumption, so if there is any chance it is not dropping to the 1 watt value adding the monitor to the off switch kills it for certain.

All of a sudden, my Sony TV no longer detects WIFI networks in my neighbourhood. When I perform the wireless setup and perform the scan, no wireless networks will show on the list. Yes, there are networks out there as my laptop will show 4 or 5 available.

The set is KDL52EX700 and I have the UWA-BR100 Wireless adapter. Was in contact with Sony eSupport but was not able to resolve the issue. Did both the power reset and full factory reset to no avail. One thing they could not tell me, rather interesting mind you, is if the TV is malfunctioning or the adapter?

Tried plugging the adapter into the laptop but was unable to find a driver; guess Sony will not release that info.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to determine what is malfunctioning on the TV set?

I hate to ask the obvious, but the TV shows a wireless USB adapter found on cold start and the BR100 is slightly warm?

I plugged the BR100 into my Win7 laptop and it found it. No drivers of course.

Yes, the TV shows wireless adapter found message on startup. No, the adapter does not feel warm after the TV has been powered on for 10 mins or so.

I would put some pictures or MP3 music on a USB memory device and see it the TV can find it too. Be sure to select the proper catagory for the content. Music doesn't play with the XBAR set to video.

I think Joe nailed it! When I first got my 60EX700 last year I ordered an adapter from Amazon (BR100). It did the same thing you adapter is doing, NOTHING. I sent it back and replaced with with Cat5 wiring. No more problems!

Joe, we should nominate you to a nice job in charge of Sony Support!

Thanks, but I have so many wires. The TV and my S570 are why I bought a faster router. I notice that newer sets have two USB ports so you don't lose picture ability with the BR100.

Is the wired port 1000Mbs? Just curious. I never stream to the TV since the S570 does a better job.

I have no problem with the BR100. jmc13golf has the problem. And I'm sure CAT5 would fix his problem too.

After getting the TV I purchased the S770 BR but never compared the wireless with the Cat5 since the later is always fast and reliably allows us to watch movies without any hesitations.

The TV did find, and play, various files from the USB memory stick.

So, can I assume that the Wireless adapter is functioning properly and something is wrong within the TV unit?

Thanks for all your help

It would seem that way since Sony support had you do various resets. As a test I would run a CAT5 line to your router. That assumes it has a built-in switch and you have free port. I don't know how your router works, but mine shows wired and wireless devices. I don't know if your IP address starts with 192, 10 or 128 or if it would help to change it. There are no security issues with CAT5. All you need is HDCP enabled and you plug the TV into the switch. If that gets you online, then I guess the USB port has a problem, especially if your computer found the wireless adapter. I've never heard of one failing, but there is always the first time.

When you ran the TV network diagnostics, I guess "Wireless Device" came up "Failed"?

I do not get any error messages, just no available networks when I do the wireless setup and perform a scan of available wireless networks.

Found this setup worked. Ran a Ethernet cable from the TV to my laptop and performed a wired network setup. Was able to establish a connection between the TV and laptop. By setting up the laptop's wireless connection as shared, I was able to get internet access on the TV.

Going to put a call into my service contract provider, yes I did get the extended warranty.

On the remote:

Home (Menu)->Network->Network Setup->View Network Status->Check Connection->Yes->

You need three "OK".

Why do you think it's an issue with the TV? Maybe the WiFi adapter is bad? Just because the TV recognizes it doesn't mean it's actually working.

Do you get three "OK"?

If the first one is OK, the TV likes the USB device.

If the second is OK, the TV is properly configured to the modem/router.

If the third is OK, the modem/router is talking to your ISP.

If Network Status shows nothing, no bars, no SSID, then the USB device may be bad. But I'm sure Sony support had you run these tests.

I haven't seen any software updates at all for the EX700 models.
The latest I have is PKG4.107AAL.
I guess they moved on to other HDTV models?
