Samsung BD-C6500 Bluray Player------ - Page 39

Anyone else having to reactivate their Netflix account every other day? It is very frustrating. It is wired and works well after it is activated but has become more and more frequent after 1020 update. Any thoughts?

Samsung BD 6500>Onkyo 807 > Samsung LN55B650 all connected with HDMI.
Speaker setup on Onkyo is 7.1 Audyssey DSX

I can't adjust the gap on the Onkyo as it is growing ...
the Audio output on BD 6500 is set to "Audiophile"
the "postprocessing on Onkyo is turned off to "skip".

First I suspected the Onkyo, but when using the PS3 Slim, then all seems to be OK, I feel there is a short gap/delay between the Video and Audio maybe some 10ms but it is constant, where as with 6500 it is ever larger gap!.

Wondering if anyone is having same issues. I have not seen this with any other BD, DVD nor with Netflix.
On Christmas we played the new BD "Sound of Music". the soundtrack was 7.1 from BD and it was OK.
I am really puzzled...

is there a PS4 on the horizon?, that I can buy one for my son and take the PS3 as a true BD player. (I never play any games).

I have the same problem with Inception and Sherlock Holmes. I had older firmwares and the same issue existed with those. It seems Samsung has not fixed this problem yet. My problem with Inception starts at the beginning of the film. It happens at the scene where Saito is discussing with Cobb and Arthur. Right around when Saito drinks his wine the audio/video sync gets knocked off. It is slight but it still exists. When played on my older 40GB PS3 I have no problem at all. Also, in Sherlock Holmes where the large Frenchman chases Robert Downey Jr. into the dock. Right when they open the dock doors the audio/video sync gets knocked off. In this BD it is really bad. My PS3 also plays Sherlock Holmes with no problems. I have a Yamaha receiver, I run HDMI from the BD player to the receiver and have my BD player set to PCM. I know it isn't my specific player too because I returned the first one I had which had the same issue. This is a frustrating problem that Samsung has still not recognized. I guess any BD that has this issue on my Samsung will have to be played on my PS3, or at least until Samsung does a proper firmware update.

My player is wired to the network. It arrived just before Christmas with firmware version 1016. I logged in to Netflix and never had to do it again until after I installed 1020, when I had to login once immediately after doing the update. Since then, I have accessed Netflix nearly every day and haven't had to login again.

I got this player along with a PN42C450 Samsung plasma. Wow!

Yes - I didn't expect some of the quirks of BD-Live / Internet content trying to load when I play certain titles, and I got some initial problems with getting certain audio to play (I think it had to do with my receiver setup and what the C6500 was trying to output).

I had a one disc (disc 3) of Dexter 4th season refuse to load several times, and then I turned off all the BD-Live stuff, and rebooted the player a few times, and then it worked fine.

The app interface was a bit clunky. I'd rather they let me move a cursor to enter in passwords and login instead of that stupid "texting" method. Also, I'm dissapointed that Hulu Plus won't be made availible (or it's not availible now anyway...) - that doesn't make sense.

The Netflix experience is JUST as good as on a Roku, at least with the last firmware. On a shaky DSL line and a 3 year-old Linksys router, sometimes movies would fail to load. Sometimes getting the movie poster graphics would be very slow to load when browsing - not just a Samsung thing, some of this is Netflix. Netflix has some bugs of its own - I've been using the Instant Watch service for 4 years, and have had a Roku for 3 of those years - even on awesome Internet connections, weird things happen.

Disappointed I have to use the 'Share' program - I'm assuming it needs an index file?

But it seems to be very versatile with AVI/mpeg playback - the latest "scene" releases played great on it and looked great, too. Can't wait to get Season 5 of Dexter on BD.

Overall I've had a great time with this player, but I'm new to HD and BD.

I'm still not sure how to make the 'gray' pillarboxing to work with my Samsung plasma. When I use it I get the gray pillarboxing a squeezed 4:3 image which has its own black pillarboxes. So what am I screwing up?

Also, I wish the player kicked to a screen saver if a menu's been up for X amount of time. Oh well.

Finally Got the BD-C6500 to work on at&t 2wire 2701HG-B
And Working again with my netgear wndr 3700

Always worked fine with my netgear( for the past year) but i just did a firmware up date on the wndr3700 and it would not obtain and ip so i just manually gave it an ip and gateway and dns and it connected no problem..

so i bought 2 of these for gifts and it would not connect at my brothers no matter what i did wep,wpa,wpa2,unsecured. the player would say"Physically connected, but can not connect to ssid". updated to 1020.1 (usb) Then I..

1 changed ssid to 4 characters (heard long names had problems, his ssid was 14 characters).
2 Diabled security (removed Check Mark)
3 advance firewall settings (unchecked all the setting on the right side Tcp/udp and others)
4 tryed reconnecting 6500 to network wated it finally did.
5 when i seen it in the network (on the modem) enabled Dmz.
6 changed my ssid back to the original name
7 enabled security to original so i wouldn't have to reconfigure all his other
stuff on the network(his was using wep open) didn't try wpa or wpa2.
8 back into the player and network rescanned enter key. player connected
right up.

Hope This Helps Others...

My main ongoing issue with this player is that it hangs sometimes if a Disc is paused for an extended length of time. Very frustrating that you have to restart and find your spot it was paused at ...

None of the firmware updates have made any difference.

So, I've been getting a "Failed to connect to the network - Curl Timeout" error when trying to load Vudu. I'm connected to the internet through wireless, and everything else seems to be working.

I called Vudu tech support to see if they knew anything, and they told me that the latest firmware update 1020.1 is causing issues with Vudu, and that Samsung is going to have to put out a new firmware update to fix the problem.

Is everyone else having Vudu problems, or is this specific to only some users? And if it's widespread, how in the hell did Samsung not catch something so obvious before releasing the latest update? Grrr...

The 1020.1 update only fixes the Netflix ratio issue for users viewing 4:3 material on a 16:9 screen. It does NOT fix the problem with viewing 16:9 material on a 4:3 screen.

Samsung is incompetent at software development that's how.

I never cease to be amazed at how inept some companies can be. We have a pile of label printers from Zebra and I ordered replacement platens. The whole kit doesn't fit. It took us five seconds to spot the problem and I've been waiting months. After that, nothing surprises me anymore...

So far I haven't upgraded my firmware at all. I am still on 1016. When a stable bug free firmware is finally released I'll upgrade but I'm not holding my breath.

Have never had to reactivate Netflix, with the exception being when I do a factory reset after a firmware update.

Had to reactivate again tonight, I did move it to another room though. Also getting stuttering with Master and Commander when bitsreaming to my Denon AVR-790. Did not have that problem when I played it on my 60g fat PS3 with PCM, maybe the HDMI cable?

Shalabama, I don't know what I'm missing. Navigating those menus only supplies me with user's manual, software for PCsharemanager, and firmware update files (only program code), and separate instruction files for installing the firmware via usb or cd. I've looked and looked and cannot find the description file you're referring to. Any more help on this?

And for anyone... anyone else unable to connect with samsung via chat? I've tried many times, with different browsers, and on different days and only get...

The connection was refused when attempting to contact sales.liveperson.net.

Phone support has told me a few times that they are unaware of any problem with this.

I don't really know what the hell I'm talking about here, so grain-of-salt and all that.... but here goes.

I initially had some cable modem "handshaking" problems associated with the newly installed bdc6500. My modem was about six years old. I got a new motorola modem from walmart that finally started talking to the player, but still kept me up till three AM trying to iron out bugs. Took it back and got the cheapest Zoom cable modem from bestbuy (recommended for exactly my problem by the guy on the floor who actually seemed pretty knowledgeable). Out of the box it solved every communication issue and I was happy.

Each time I swapped modems I had to call my ISP to have the mac address logged and for them to fiddle with the IP address. A couple of times I needed to reactivate my netflix account because of this. Perhaps you should call your ISP and ask if your IP address has remained stable/static over the last weeks.

Like I said, I don't know what the hell I'm talking about, so this may not apply at all.

Not saying you're incorrect, but it's not unique to Samsung and just the nature of the consumer electronics beast.

Check out the LG thread for the BD570. People are livid over bad firmware problems and constant issues with 24Hz capabilities. I have a Netgear router and new firmware was just released for it that's complete garbage and everyone on that forum is up in arms. And I'm sure there are other products with threads I haven't read with similar issues.

This is nothing new or unique to Samsung. The issue is the constant change of standards, the huge number of variables, and the low budgets given to the folks who maintain firmware for companies like Samsung. When you sell a BD player or a router for $150, how much cost can you incur for updates and testing? Not making an excuse, but just bringing some of the reality back to the conversation.

Some WAGs are going to occur here. 1) the player is set to get network info automatically (i.e., you didn't enter the IP info manually); 2) the VDSL modem is not set to be a DHCP server and 3) the PeeCee is set, for some strange reason, to be the DHCP server.

If #s 2 and 3 correct, you have your local network set up incorrectly. A home PeeCee should never be a DHCP server. The modem should be doing that. I say this because after the PeeCee booted and the DHCP service started, the player was able to obtain the info it needed.

Check the configuration of your modem and the PeeCee.

1080p60 does not exist as a Blu-ray specified frame rate. You'll only find it on AVCHD video camcorders (and then it is really 1080p59.94). For Blu-ray, the specific frame rate is 1080i30 (1080i29.97). The only 1080 progressive frame rate is 1080p24 (1080p23.976). 1080p25 doesn't even exist, it is 1080i25. The values quoted should be FRAME rates, so one isn't confused by interlaced FIELD rates.

BTW, for 720, it is only progressive, no interlaced frame rates.

First off, neither NTSC or PAL Blu-rays exist. NTSC and PAL are the specifications for the old analog broadcasts, i.e., 525 line and 625 line, respectively.

Because the HD specification covers 23.976/24/25/29.97/30 frame rates, for the first time we actually have kind-of an international standard. HD display devices are supposed to support all of the frame rates as well. But, best to verify first.

Shortly after I obtained the Sony S350 player, I had the first Blu-ray Doctor Who episode sent to me by a friend who lives in the UK. The computer/tv monitor that I have seems to only support the 29.97/30 frame rates. But, I tried it anyway. I put the media in the player and watched it on my monitor. The Sony said that it was doing 60p. Ya, well that is wrong as 60p isn't supposed to exist. In any event, the BD played. Keep in mind that the release must not be region coded. The BBC only region codes their DVD DW releases, not any of their BD releases (including Torchwood).

After seeing your posting, I go "oh sh!t", forgetting about 1080i25 playback in the C6500. I really wasn't too worried, as the C5500 plays back 720p25 MKV files. Sure enough, the DW BD plays just fine in the C6500. I have no idea what it is doing for the frame rate, as the info display from the C6500 doesn't show the frame rate. Can the player be told to display the frame rate? I'll have to see if I can get the monitor to display that info.

I'll only be getting the U.K. BD releases as I want the original 1080i25 release, not the converted to 1080i29.97 release.

By converter, I'm hoping you mean a step-down transformer. The manual gives the spec as 120v/60Hz. Hopefully the switching supply won't have an issue with 50 Hz.

As noted above, NTSC/PAL Blu-rays do not exist. Please read my posting above regarding 1080i25 releases.
It seems that both Sony and Samsung are of the same mindset when it comes to 576i25 DVDs in a 480i29.97 player. It is as if they run the playback through a whole different section, which has the mindset of most DVD players, i.e., they won't take 576i25 video and convert it to NTSC analog (via the analog outputs), or to 1080i29.97 for the HDMI/component outputs.

So, like the Sony S350 that I have, the C6500 won't play

I only have one 576i25 DVD that is all region (even though it incorrectly is marked as region 0. There is no region 0), and it is spit back out of the C6500

Damn, that was real easy. The Samsung allshare software has pretty much got nothing but bad mouthing over at the Samsung AllShare and Internet@TV Discussion thread. Mezzmo, on the other hand, has been recommended a lot over there.

So, I downloaded and installed. I turned on the player before starting the program and shortly after it started, it said that the player requested access and it was granted.

I put three video files in a directory and added that directory as a video share. Mezzmo added them quickly. I went over to the player and selected Mezzmo and videos. After another selection, there were the three files. Told one to play and I was off and running.

I'm impressed. Looks like I'll be buying this software as well.

Only good BD player which would play NTSC PAL and also support 110V or 220V is OPPO BDP-93. this one also includes Netflix. That is driving my nuts as only few months before BDP-93 came out I asked directly OPPO about the Netflix and got an answer as they "don't know if and when Netflix will be added" to OPPO.

In that time frame I bought the Samsung 6500 and build a small HTPC to play PAL DVDs, I still don't have the solution for BDs until I get $499 for what I could easily wait for (BDP-93) before buying other stuff.
Such is the life...........
