Samsung BD-C6500 Bluray Player------ - Page 21

I installed firmware updates as soon as they became available. During the 3 months I have owned the player, the problem has persisted despite firmware updates. Prior to sending it in for service, I reset the player but again had the same problem. Other than that, I have really enjoyed the player. It still seems to be a high quality value for the price. Now the issue is becoming Samsung's deficient customer service....

A little more on the problem....during movies, usually after an hour or more of viewing, the movie would occasionally freeze for a few seconds and then skip a few times before resuming normal playback. Occasionally, the audio would be out of sync when the skipping stopped. The problem seemed to be more likely to occur after the movie had been paused or after hitting the play button following a brief forward or reverse scan during playback.

I've read through this entire thread and I seem to be the only one having this issue but I will mention it anyways just in case someone has a quick cure for me. It would certainly be appreciated.

After using the skip fwd or rvs buttons, I lose my center channel. All others are fine.

It appears to be some sort of HDMI handshake issue that it thinks it has to refresh the handshake after the PCM stream is interrupted by the Skip buttons. I suspect this because to get the center channel back I have to reset my source on the receiver.

I did not experience this on my PS3, my HD-DVD player (Yes, I still have it as it's the best DVD upscaler I've owned by far.) nor a couple of test DVDs. It does it on the BD-6500 even if you choose Dolby 5.1 instead of a HD sound track.

The obvious fix, or at least experiment, would be to switch it to an optical or analogue outs but I have left it as is for a while hoping it might be a bug fix on the Samsung side that might get addressed by an update but since I can find no mention of others having this issue anywhere, I guess it's just a combination of my two particular items not playing friendly. Denon 3608, by the way. An otherwise flawless receiver so far after 4 years of service.

This post is my last shot before I invest in more cables.

"Download to a USB stick and update from USB."

if you read my full post, you would see I did that and it will not update.

Just installed a Netgear wndr3700 dual band n router, replacing my old linksys. Connecting to a wireless Samsung BD c6500.
The new router appears slower during speed tests.
Am I missing something in the router Configuration ?

Do not think it is a router problem, I have tested with a Apple Airport Extreme 802.11N and it shows a much slower speed then either of 2 laptops or my iPhone in the exact same location. I also tested with a cat 5e and it shows the same slower speed. I also noticed that it shows a lower quality rating compared to a Roku using Netflix. Multiple calls to Samsung support and level 2 all resulted in the same nonsense script answers.(how can it be a wireless problem when you are using cat 5e and also testing with a wired and wireless laptop?).. They promised a call from a product specialist within 24 hours a week ago and still waiting. I belive that it is chip/firmware problem since it shows itself in both wired and wireless mode.

All testing done with my BD-C6500

Problem is all manufacturers are pretty much like this now. The profits are not big enough to let "authorized" repair centers to still exist for many brands. Was nice 20 years ago where if you lived in a larger city area, you usually had a local repair center you could drop off at and pick up couple days later. Shipping across country and waiting sure is a drag. I see in your next post you say "value for the price" which is the problem. If they sold them for $25 more each, they 'could' provide the service but we all (I included) have got used to lower prices versus what I would call "Sony prices" from 20 years ago when you got nothing better for the higher price in equipment but you did have authorized service centers and support. /Dan

Take a look at this post which hopefully explains the poor speed tests

OK, I posted on 7/26, I updated my BD-C6500 to firmware v. 1015.4 that was released on 7/23 and to date, I have not had to reactivate my Netflix account.

I have the update too and just out of the clear blue had to reactivate my Netflix account even though I had already used the streaming services since applying the update ...

I've got a BD-C6500 and I've got very spotty MKV audio support. The files are usually encoded in 5.1 or 2.0 AC3 and are the only channel of audio on the disc. It seems that if I have a disc with a higher bitrate than 128 the audio will not work in AC3. In DTS it works just fine all the way to 1.5 Mb. Does anyone have any idea what will work for sure or what MKV setup I should be using to re-encode my movies?

I gave up on the Samsung PC Share Manager since there were too many bottlenecks (CPU, wifi, and software) and finally connected a portable Seagate freeagent drive that had some avi/divx/mkv files on it. I noticed some lagging on the smaller avi/divx files while all of the 1080/720 mkv files played fine.

Anyone have an idea why the smaller files are having lagging issues or have a better hard drive recommendation to improve video playback? TIA

Never occurred in 3 months, until the day I read this post and it happened last night. Only the once, and we stopped it and restarted it and it worked fine. FWIW, I also just got my player back this week from being serviced by Samsung for skipping and freezing during playback.

Can anyone shed any light on why the WiFi Alliance certification for the BD-C6500 shows it passing dual band testing? As best as I can tell, the wireless capabilities on the player are only 2.4 GHz.

Can anyone provide any information on getting 5 GHz networks to connect?

Hi I just bought BD-C7500. I have setup Tversity . Player can find Tversity but cannot play avi/mp3/jpeg/mkv any files. I have installed K-lite codec mega completely but still not working.

For testing I have installed Playon server I can play the same files when connected to Playon. I really want to make Tversity work any ideas or guides ?

thanks

Did you actually get yours back or did they send you a refurb?

Anyone else figured out how to use WPA2/AES with the BD-C6500?

I can only get wireless to work when the network supports WPA/TKIP which effectively turns the 802.11n connection into a g connection, limited to 54Mbps.

Am I doing something wrong?

Has anyone ran into this problem before?
Most of my burned dvd's are now causing the player to squeal when they are played , not an audio squeal , but one from the player itself.

It seemed to happen a few firmware updates ago , i don't know if this would have anything to do with it but i'm open to suggestions.

I've tried burning at lower speeds , different media etc but to no avail.

Also , store bought dvd's and blurays play fine without the squeal ,it's just burned dvd's doing it.

Would a rollback on the firmware be the answer to this and if so how do i go about rolliing it back?

Looking forward to any suggestions.

Gord

They sent mine back, albeit in "refurbished" form as they did replace some components.

I know it's a small thing but anyone else find the Sammy's disc tray annoying? This is the first DVD player I've owned that doesn't have side cutouts to allow for easy disc removal. Maybe I'm just not used to putting my finger through the center hole

I'm totally with you on this one. I feel like I'm going to scratch discs when removing them in a normal manner cuz I can't easily just grab them from the top like any other optical disc drive/player I've ever had or used in my life. When I try to grab discs from the top I end up either getting a bad grip or sliding them around the tray, etc, can't just grab and pick up, and so I have to force myself to push the disc up from the bottom (thru the center hole) then grab it.

Has anyone been able to get anything other than Samsung's PC Share Manager to work? Has anyone found a way to have the Share Manager find external drives?

I've gotten JRiver's Media Center 15 to work. Can play my flacs (transcoded to mp3) and mp3s OK. pictures work OK. Video is a mixed bag depending on codecs and containers as always.

I have managed to stream from external drive but only from previous version 4.1, it does not work in new version. If you right click on the folder you want to share on external drive click property and share you will get an error message but folder will then appear in shared folder section and streams perfectly.

Has there been any word as to when Hulu Plus will be available for the Samsung Bluray players? I had an email from Samaung saying Hulu plus was available and inviting me to it's trial, but when I went to the player, I could not find the option or upgrade to install the Hulu app.
