SVS Sealed Subs... - Page 9

All looks very interesting. I'm not fan of the black oak. This also means their speakers and subs will be mismatched on veneers. I hope they fix that.

I wonder if bash amps will be fazed out completely. Sad to see SVS being forced to go oversees more than they already have.

Also did anyone notice the power went up on the SB13 plus from 800 watts to 1000? I wonder if the Ultra 16 will get a bump from 1200 as well?

Also SVS really needs to throw us a bone on the Ultra 16 we need driver pics.lol

The 16 is going to be a neo magnet design... cutting weight, it'll be interesting to see what it looks like.

SVS really has made some great steps in driver design - it should be a good sub...

I just noticed an update over at SVSound:

PB12–Ultra/2

Sunday, 4 July, 2010: SB12-NSD shipping update and SB13-Plus pre-orders pending

Yes, finally. The SVS team has been working virtually around the clock and quite literally around the world to make good on the coming new "killer SB's". Your wait is coming to an end.

The sealed subs we are confident will make your next high-tech bass update that much easier to make. From left to right: SB10-NSD, SB12-NSD, SB12-Plus, SB13-Plus and SB16-Ultra. All coming soon, to international dealers you know, and of course right here to make for some fireworks of the audio sort.

As for my purchase of a SB16-U...seems it's pending a while longer

What happened to the PB-12 update they hinted at earlier? From June 2: "We'll hope to have order pages up next week. A slicker, smaller, more powerful PB12-NSD?" One month later, still no word.

$4000 for the SB16 ultra. Is that a mis print?. The new seaton HP submersive with the upgraded 2400 watt amp is only £2300. Will it be twice as good as the Seaton? It will be very interesting to see how many they sell off them.

They do look top quality finishes as always.

cheers

There's a big update on the SVS site:

http://svsound.com/news-news.cfm

Looks like SB13-Plus pre-orders are finally going to be here this week -- other product information as welll...
Darn, as I was reading the first paragraph and these quotes ...

Not long after this was taken, just last week, we retreated to an only slightly cooler anechoic chamber for more close mic frequency response testing on this and imminent SB13-Plus

I was chomping at the bit thinking that long marketing release was going to provide some test numbers.

Grrr!

Looks like the new SB subs will be making their debut today in KLIAV.
Will these new SVS sealed subs be making an appearance at Cedia?
Good question Graham.

It just seems so out of character for SVS to have a $4k sub that we're all hoping that is a typo. Unfortunately, its been there so long that if it was a typo, then I'd think that it would have corrected it by now.

The new SB series subwoofers made an appearance in Malaysia. This weekend, it will be launch in Singapore.

Managed to extract the new SB12-NSD from a local forum in Malaysia :

That looks bogus. It's impressive if it's real, but it looks phony.

The "flatness" or the extension? If you mean how flat the line is, that's AS-EQ smoothing the line like crazy.

Otherwise I'm not sure it tells us much other than in some room that could be pretty small, that the SB12-NSD can be EQ'd flat to around 18hz. Without knowing the room, the graph is somewhat meaningless me-thinks?
I believe th sub can be eq'd to extend to 18hz (though at what SPL, I wonder), but the before-and-after flatness is suspect to me.
Yes, that's the AS-EQ. They apply a full octave of smoothing from the looks of it which of course makes it look great and eliminates most of the bumps. Marketing gimmick, but the results of the AS-EQ are impressive none the less, just not THAT impressive!! Kind of wish they didn't do that though, seems very un-SVS-like given the quality of their subs to smooth the line that much. Probably cuts down on the number of questions/returns though.

But looks great when you show your friends!!
Anyone hear any news on the SB-13? Their last news update from Sunday July 18th said the pre-order page would be going up "this week", which was last week.

ALL of the prices on the new SB subs sound high to me. In my opinion $1200 for the SB-12 Plus, and $1700 for the SB-13 Plus just doesn't make sense. Not with options from Epik, Hsu, Elemental Designs, etc. If I had $1200 to spend on a sealed sub and it was a choice between a ULS-15 and a SB-12 Plus...I don't think I'd take too long to decide...

Hopefully the prices come down drastically after they're in production for a while. They look like interesting subs except for the price!

That's a model of what FR you'd see if you were on acid and squinting when you looked at the graph.

I got tired of waiting on these subs. These were originally suppose to be out last year and I suppose we will start seeing some SB12-NSD's finally. There is also a very big price difference between the SB12-NSD and the SB12-Plus, which makes some of the choices difficult especially as no one has tested these things. In the end I got a Rythmik F12SE, which is reviewed, extremely accurate, and most importantly... available. There are alot of choices out there from ED, Rythmik, HSU, Epik, etc... that waiting for these sub's is not worth it.
With all due respect to SVS, I would much rather go for the Rythmik 12" for a number of reasons...one being that it IS available right now and is well renowned for putting out what it says it does. Not to mention, the pricing is better.

And as someone already mentioned, If it came down to the SB13 and the ULS, I know where im going...

I agree. It used to be SVS offered twice the sub for the same price as the competition. Most of the other Internet direct subs offer better value, and the SVS is creeping up on the retail sub prices (like Velodyne Optimum 12 which is around $1200 discounted). I would have thought moving total production to Asia would have allowed them to keep the price low. I like SVS products, but their newest pricing is getting hard to swallow.

The SB-12 Plus is discontinued and never sold for $1,200 in the US, it was ~$750.

In the new line-up, there is an SB-12 NSD which will be well under $1,000. Then the SB-13 Plus, for about $1,700, and finally, the SB-16 Ultra which will be ~$2,600.

While the SB-16 Ultra will be nice looking, a Seaton Submersive HP for ~$2,300 will be hard to beat.

As far as the FR graph of the SB-12 NSD, it would have been much more informative if the output level, and distortion level was known, and that it was run at 100 db minimum to see what the driver would do at HT levels.

There will be a SB12 Plus and it will retail for $1200. The SB12-NSD is like the old SB12 Plus just without the nice option of a wood finish. The NSD will be released first and the SB12 Plus may be out by the end of the year, but its hard to know as SVS is famous for their delays.
So wait...SVS has prided themselves on being "USA built" in Ohio, and now they are doing all their production in China? AND they are charging seemingly MORE for their products?

So what exactly is the history/timeline of this? There was an "old" SB-12 Plus that is now discontinued. And now they are coming out with a "new" SB-12 Plus. What's the difference?

I'm starting to realize their estimates are unreliable. They've been saying for three weeks that their pre-order pages for the SB-13 Plus will be up "this week".

Yeah, I was all set to be excited about these new sealed subs but it's just not adding up. $1200 for a 12" sealed sub that only hits 23Hz? No thanks.

They just posted another news update.

And don't think your old favorite big vented subs are going to miss out on the fun, but once again we missed our own self-imposed deadline to get pre-orders up and running on the incredible new SB13-Plus. But those pages are coming and soon.

The Boy who Cried Wolf comes to mind.
