Also when will we see a review of the SB-13plus?

We held CES at Ron's house in Vegas. It was a just for dealers and vendors/suppliers, to discuss administrative and logistical business efforts, amd new products coming down the pipeline.

Some items can't be discussed publicly yet, but near-term products on display included the entire Art Speaker Line (MT, MTM, Sub1, Sub2), 800H DSP ASL subwoofer chassis amp (400W x 2), the PB12-NSD (downsized), the ASL 12 shallow woofer, and the 16 Ultra woofer.

Attached are a few iPhone photos of our ASL Sub2 with art grille on/off. We have one entire catalogue dedicated to hot-rod/automotive prints.

I suppose that the 16Ultra is SB16-Ultra. If it is ported, I bet it should 'dethroned' PB13-Ultra

NO info on the SB10-NSD?

Almost forgot about that little guy. No firm release date; we're deliberately staggering the SB launches. But it's a cool little sub and is perfect for small offices or dens. And it's packing a Sledge 400D DSP amp with 400W so I have a lot of flexibility with the VTF to obtain the target FR and the woof can take the power too.

We had a production 16 Ultra woofer on display and ran it up in free air, too. We have several pre-production subwoofers using that woofer, with varying acoustic alignments and driver array/complement. The SB16U is on the docket yes, but naturally it's not the only sub we're eventually going to build which utilizes this woofer.

Hmmm. Are you hinting at something? That is going to make a lot of bass heads happy.

No hints at all - just stating that this woofer will eventually be used in multiple SVS subwoofers.

Marketing isn't making any more vaporware releases; when a product is ready, it's ready. And that means it's in final production and we can take pre-orders. Otherwise I won't let marketing leak it early - we've done that before and it's never been productive for either SVS or its customers.

Sounds like a plan, however, we all miss the days when a company would announce a product, ask for preorder monies, then never deliver or be 2-3 years late. Now that's marketing .

Smart move ...

But, hey, while we're speculating, dual opposed, externally amped, SB-16 anyone? PB16 anyone?

Yeah, we've done all kinds of cool stuff with the 16U woof already. Our test amp for the skunk works subwoofer projects is a Crown Macro 5000 with a dedicated 50A 220V outlet.

hi Ed, by "downsized PB12-NSD" do you mean a smaller cabinet? If so, do you have any approx dimensions you can share?

The new cab is 2" less deep, and slightly smaller on the front baffle in height/width. The press fit port doesn't require the extra real estate on the front baffle for the screws, so we were able to make it a bit more compact.

Visually the difference between the two is pretty obvious, and the sub is also easier to move around and position. It was encroaching on PB12-Plus territory and feedback from various demographics indicated a smaller cabinet would be well received. Here is a pic of a gloss version, being used as an ad hoc end table.

System tuning will be 20 Hz, the same as the similarly sized PC12-NSD. Both will share the same amp/woofer/port with form factor being the only substantive difference.

that looks real nice

hey guys, new to the forums. I currently have a PB12 Plus with bash amp purchased back in July. Looking for a lesser expensive sub to "fill" the other smaller side of my apartment which has no bass. I was thinking of an SB or PB 12 NSD. Space and money is a concern but mainly space. Will these subs play nice together? How close will the NSD subs perform compared to my bash plus?

thanks.

I am looking to do the same. I think I read someone on this forum mixing the PB13 Ultra and SB13 plus with good results. Perhaps I'll give SVS a call today.

Please share what they say. I have the pb12plus as well and this seems like an interesting idea.

Does anyone know if the US SVS subs will run on 230V/AC (Australia) without voltage converters?

News update

http://www.svsound.com/news-news.cfm

Also I had a thought someone needs to update the review section of the website its kinda out dated. Also dose anyone know if there any reviews of the SB plus-13?

The amp is not auto-switching. SV subwoofer are configured at the factory at the time of build for the voltage in the geographical region in which they will be sold.

Ed, nice to finally see a raw pic of the new 16" Neo....

I'm sure that'll be a fantastic driver for your new builds...

Got any better quality pics of it....

Hey warp:

Not yet - all of the 16U woofs are currently in test mules. I'm pleased with the performance data we're generating thus far in various configurations.
From the picture it seems the magnet for the 16" driver is relatively small. The magnet on the smaller PB13U driver is even larger. Is that so Ed?

Its a neodymium magnet... Not the same as a conventional ferrite magnet...

Allows for weight savings

You can read about it a bit here...

The field strength of this motor is very high for its size. An equivalent strength ferrite motor would be enormous and weigh far more. The 16U woof is actually lighter than the 13U woof, despite having 50% more Sd.

Our shallow woof has a neo motor too - excellent performance for being so light and shallow. 400W to a pair of those in the ASL Sub2 and it filled a large/open room with clean/punchy bass.

Am I wrong, or was there originally going to be a sealed 12" to fit a price bracket between the SB12-NSD and the SB13-Plus.... a new SB12-Plus?

There is nothing on the website anymore... and there's a pretty big price gap between the SB12-NSD and the SB13-Plus
post #479 of 819
^ there still is to be released at a later date

Yes, a pretty big gap is an understatement: the NSD is $599 and the SB13 is $1600, $1000 more

SVS definite needs something to slot in between the two, the Rythmik and Hsu sealed subs get all the attention in this price range. Unfortunately, that's the price range I'm looking at and there is no SVS for me to consider
