Does anyone know the Costco price on the 46 and 55 inch models? (and does Costco ever have sales or is the price the same on their TVs always?)

Maybe so, but you have to admit given the examples we've seen posted, the pixel structure is similar.

Overall uniformity on the EX700 looked OK, it was the flashlighting along the top edge of the screen that turned me off of this set. It wasn't along the entire edge but there were clearly several areas along the upper edge where I could actually look and know exactly where the LEDs were placed. I actually recently got back from the store I saw my first 52EX700 at and I have to take back what I said about it.....after watching the TV for a good 10 mins when a solid color like a blue or gray sky was up I could clearly see it without looking very hard. So as of this point I've viewed three 52EX700s and two 60EX700s. All three of the 52s had the same flashlighting issue I've mentioned above and one of the two 60s had it.

I'd also be interested on the Costco price on the 55" EX500. Also is there any way to tell whether a particular Costco has a specific model, and do they offer any kind of delivery if you buy in store? I've never bought something this physically large at a Costco before. Unfortunately they aren't offering it through their website.

If you click Locations on the costco.com main page and put in your zipcode it gives a list of nearby Costco's. Click on the specific name of one and it will take you to the information about that warehouse, from there is a link available to click called "New Items In the Warehouse." It lists new things they got it in this week. Many of them in my area are listing the EX501's as new this week.

AFAIK Costco is a "cash and carry" kind of place, no delivery, you need to have a truck with you since it is a warehouse store, not a normal consumer electronics shop.

The box is really not that big. It fit easily in my van. A car may have trouble but the box is not thick, Costco has them in boxes that you can see if you go to the store.

For Whitearrow, the Irvine Costco has the 55" (off Alton and 5 Frwy).

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but does input lag mean that ifi hook the tv up to a stereo, and then watch a blu-ray or my HD TiVo, the sound won't match the picture?

No, that is different. That has not been a problem at all.

This is about playing games and how the response rate is when using the controllers and how quick it reacts on the screen. My son uses an Xbox 360 and he has had no issues playing the latest Call of Duty on it (hooked up via HDMI in Game Mode).

Just called costco and got the information. I called city of commerce but they don't have the KDL-46EX501. I live in alhambra, but no one answered my phone for 10 mins.

Can anyone confirm the 55" costo ex501 had the nice black bottom and not the silver? Important to me since I'm planning to arrange for someone to pick this up for me if it's all black

and had it been answered if you have to maintain a membership for the warranty to be effective? Also, what if you live 150 miles from the nearest costco, is their warranty in home?

i got my 55 at costco and its all black, there is no silver on mine at all. i dont believe you have to keep being a member for warranty since paper from sony inside box states 3 years warranty on it.

It is black. One of the nice features compared to the 55EX500. Unless you like silver/gray.

Thanks! I'm so happy to hear that, I don't like silver & wasn't going to get this model because of that, glad I found this forum. Does anyone have the 55 box? Friend wants exact measurements to see if it will fit in her xterra

i have the box but i put it out back, if you remind me, i can measure it after work, but it did fit in my wifes mazda 6 with no problem with her back seats folded down through the trunk. i was very surprised too!

I was able to do the stand myself on my 55EX501. I just kept the TV on the floor horizontal and slid the stand into it. Not the easiest thing to do with one person but the TV is not very heavy and two people would have no problem. You could then lift TV up and place on stand and screw it on. I did need a second person to help me lift it onto the cabinet though.

Picked up the 46EX500 this weekend and have been playing around with it a little bit here and there. Still haven't calibrated it yet but the display looks nice. Upgraded from a 32XBR6 - the extra screen real estate is awesome!

I just plopped the tv down on the couch face down with the bottom end hanging off the side slightly and then installed the base that way. Pretty simple. I'll have it this way temporarily, since I ordered a Sanus mount and will install in in the next couple days.

Look forward to seeing other people's calibration settings!

What do you mean? What benefits do you get from Best Buy that makes it a better way to go? Delivery from them is like $70 (when did they stop the free delivery?) - you get a 1 year vs a 3 year warrantly - and you have to have the silver bottom part.

Since I'm considering Costco, wondering what is bad about it that worries you - other than delivery/setup that Best Buy could provide for a cost?

Costco has free delivery on their website for all the TV's I've clicked on - "threshold" which says they bring it into the house, for free. Do you think the EX501 will make it onto the site eventually for online ordering, or do they only have a small selection on their site normally (I'm not too familiar with Costco).

My Best Buy had the 55EX500 on sale for 1699 last night. Same price as Costco, I believe.

First I have to get my brother to come with me, and then just the concern of getting it into and out of the car (assuming it will fit), unboxed, and set up. Best Buy will also recycle my old TV.

(I am very disappointed that BB no longer has free delivery.)

I understand, and agree -- the Best Buy girl I asked about free delivery was quite rude to me, told me it was a "christmas special" and will never be offered again even on a special (?? as if she knows the future) - but tell me if I'm wrong - I've been watching the Best Buy ads for years (and carefully since November), and I'm pretty sure they've had free delivery for TVs over 999 for a long time. Recently adding free setup and recycling, but now have suddently stopped?

Anyway, I too was going to settle for Best Buy because of the free service, even though I really don't want the silver version. I was also going to purchase a 4 year warranty. But after hearing no more free delivery, I'm going to go with Costco, although I probably wouldn't if I didn't care about the stupid silver vs. black as much as I do. So in a way I'm glad they stopped the free delivery because now I'm going to get the one I really want.

Blacks are very good on both given the viewing environment at BB and that's with both sets set on Vivid with the picture at max, brightness at 50 and backlight at 8. I'd actually go out on a limb and say the blacks seemed to be a touch blacker on the EX500 but it's hard to say for sure without them being perfectly side by side.

After carefully watching the loop they had playing though other differences became apparent. The EX700 had flashlighting in the upper area just like the other 52EX700 I saw last week. Not so noticeable when a black screen was up (likely because I had to deal with some reflection on the screen due to the store overhead lighting) but when solid colors like blue or white or light gray were, it was clearly there.....the EX500 showed no such deviations in uniformity. So that’s 2 out of 4 EX700s I've seen display this issue. Another thing I found interesting was even though these TVs use the same panel design, the EX500 had better off axis viewing angles....the EX700 clearly washed out earlier in the angle range and at a more rapid rate. It's interesting that the CCFL backlighting would help make the EX500 appear to be better in that regard.

These two TV's are options for me as replacements for my green blob SXRD. I'm definitely likely going to take the EX500 given what I saw today....especially given the price premium to step up to the EX700.

I can concur with most of your findings after two weekends in a row viewing both 60" side by side at BB to my surprise the EX500 outdid the EX700 in about 90% with the identical feed material. What shocked me most were the black levels of the 500 besting the 700 - whites and color range also bested the LED and it was more washed out - perhaps they placed the LED in Cinema Mode which can look dimmer and darker/drab IMO and I've read at least five people that have concurred on this comparison in different regions of the country. As a result I certainly would advise no one buy the LED blindly without going in and auditioning the panels before yanking out your wallet.

I've run gta 4, motorstorm and tw 07 on my ps3, as well as ghwt, rb2,rb beatles, on my 360 and all played fine for me.

"I was offered the 60" EX500 and EX700 as a replacement for my SXRD set. Before I even went to a store I pretty much had made up my mind that I was going to get the EX700 due to all the extra features it had, LED lighting, thinness, etc.

I was able to view 60" versions of both at the same store on the same hi-def feed. I went through the settings menus of each and set them the same. I watched both for probably a good 40 mins total at the store.

After all was said and done....I changed my mind and went with the EX500. Thin and current tech is cool, but at the end of the day the PQ is the most important thing for me and the EX700s I've seen had flaws I couldn't live with."


So like you mentioned.....people considering buying one of these two TVs should really carefully survey the two......their eyes might surprise them. For me....Sony needs more development on EDGE Led. In the grand scheme of things this is Sony's first attempt at wide range use of the technology. It's good but it needs to be better.......especially given the price differential in the 60" versions.

I just ordered an EX500... largely because it seems like such a good value... 120hz, sounds like it has good contrast ratio with good black levels, uniform back lighting and respectable color.

I originally was looking at the EX700 as well... and it does look interesting... BE3 should give you a little cleaner picture when dealing with some of the more esoteric video situations, it has a pretty impressive set of internet content, it uses less power than the EX500 and (in theory) the back lighting should remain more consistent over time.

However, in my case I'll probably get a PS3 or some other device that will provide similar internet content and the slight savings in power is more than offset by the price difference.

Oh yeah... and I got a smoking good deal on the EX500 thru a SonyStyle Employee purchase program.
