well its hard but i think the best is to just go woht what pleases your eye for game settings. i personally have to play in game mode because there is very little lag. I definitely notice lag when playing on anything but game mode but here are my settings with ycb 709
Game Mode
BL: 4
Pic: 91
Brightness: 51
colour(yeah I'm Canadian): 51
sharpness: 3 ( you can go lower but i prefer 3)
everything else default

I use the same setting for ps3 but brightness is at 50 since xbox seem to be a little bit darker i put it at 51

but if someone has good setting for the 40 inch using ycb ill be more than happy to use it

Sony offered me this TV for not very much $ as a replacement to a failing rear projection LCD, Im going to take it because for the money I cant pass it up. With that said can you guys tell me what I can expect from this TV, i usually pick apart displays as I'm a graphics guy by trade... Anyhow how is the quality of the picture, movies, sports (football) ect... Video Games FPS. Thanks in advance everyone!

PS3 and Xbox use exact same settings. Right down to test the same with a meter.

Which TV did they offer?
For the most part, folks who have received these TVs as part of the replacement program have been extremely happy once they get some good settings applied (factory settings are just so-so). Things you will notice right off the bat are, off-axis viewing degrades fairly quickly as you move out to either side of a straight on view but that's typical of LCD TVs. A few folks have had minor issues with what is called "flashlighting", myself included. It's really only noticable when there's no signal going to the TV and it's displaying the black screen. Speaking of black levels, this TV rocks.

All in all, you will notice some difference between the old and new but eventually you should come to liking this set........ allot!

The 55ex500, Is the screen blotchy/blocky at all, as I have noticed with other LCD's of that past? How is this on video games, lag wise?

What is that which people refer to as "lag"? I notice nothing wrong when I play video games.

Well if you notice nothing than that is good, Lag refers to the delay on joystick movement to on screen movement, in so few words. so if you move left or right be it, the screen is just a little behind your controller movements and button pressing, which in FPS shooters can haunt you as you will be subject to being shot before you actually realize it.

I've read almost every page of this thread and can't find anyone asking what the optimal calibration settings are for the 46ex521.

i just purchased one and would love to set it up with the right settings and start enjoying it right away.

Thats a new set that would be a thread called EX520. Not sure if there is one yet.

Do u guys play 360 games on 1080 p or 720p

My xbox is set to 1080p. The xbox scales well and fast. the TV doesn't need to do anything in that regard.

Your settings are slightly blinding, and serialmike's are too dark for the 40". There must be a compromise.

my settings for the 46" EX500, for blu-ray and xbox 360:

BL: 3
PIC: 83
BR: 47
Color: 47
Sharpness: 3

gives a very SXRD picture for movies. game mode and graphics mode are identical also, per serialmike.

Elux what setting are you currently using? and do you play with game mode enabled. The reason I play with game mode is you will definitely notice lag on game like battlefield 3 and kill zone 3 if using anything other than game or graphics mode

I'm glad you asked. Out of pure desperation I tried serialmike's General settings which are used for viewing TV and was shockingly surprised. I am now able to play video games with excellent picture quality while using the in-game default brightness settings! His TV settings are actually better than his Gaming settings, for whatever reason.

If you have the 40" like me you need to set it to 1080p, Standard and YCbCr709 to get the impressive picture.

Hey E, there is reason for this change. Its due to Neutral. It eliminates that Dimness in the image that you didnt like. This is why I moved to custom for gaming but with the extra features turned off cinemotion and motionflow. I do slightly worse if at all online with MW2 and Blops so even though I knwo its laggier I don't care because If I do the same in those games everything is fine.

If you use Neutral in game mode its oh so blue and you cant adjust it out because theres no white balance controls.

those setting look really great actually I'm thinking about just using them for my single players and using game mode for cod and battlefield and gears. anyways Elux you mentioned you use the in game brightness settings? does that mean you just adjust brightness using in game sliders? just curious

Nope didn't buy and wont be buying BF3. But I can tell you my settings will be excellent for MW3.

Been playing bf3 on ps3 notices that the whites are really white and darks are really dark that's just how the game
