The Italian Job (2003) remastered - Page 3

Not sure we'll get a better version of Sleepy Hollow. I think that terrible processing might be intended. Just like with Sweeney toad.

That's total BS. Sweeny Todd had a gorgeous picture whereas SH and a couple of other old Paramount transfers (Italien Job) are riddled with digital video noise. It's basically the same as Gangs of NY. They can do it better if they want to.

It has a gorgeous picture if you leave aside the artefacts, the grain smudging and blocking, and the what I call 'grain ringing'. Of course there's also the face 'photoshop-style brushing' as well, but I suppose I can forgive that. It's true that sleepy hollow looks much worse, the smudging being severe and detail is because of that almost completely gone, but since sweeney has processing I'm just saying it's not totally impossible for that processing to be intended. Especially since all versions have the same problem.

Did this ever rerelease? Amazon is still showing 2008 as a release date.

No.

I just saw the new-cover version of The Italian Job Blu-ray at a Best Buy in the S. F. Bay Area in the last couple of days. I didn't think to look at the specs, though. I will go look again when I get a chance.

Funny - at amazon I see the new artwork on the Full Screen version. Why?
Some poor sod is gonna pop a vein after unpacking it and wondering why his TV is stuck in 4/3.
I've seen this release at the store and the specs mirror the original release, no remaster.

Guess this title is in some Studio Cluster Hold of some sort?
Let me guess - they're saving it for the Brazilian Job release.
Anyone?

There never was a remaster. It's just the original release from Paramount repackaged with new cover art.

If they are saving a remaster for The Brazilian Job, they'll be saving it forever.

any news on the supposed remastered version? Is it actually better?

German. Cheap and lossless audio. Region-free.

No. The german BD messed up the audio. Even the lossy DD+ Track on HDDVD sounds better.

How so?

Why do they spend time on a remaster of this when we don't have the original movie yet?
There's a "new" release coming in Australia. That might have the same transfer plus lossless audio.

Nice. Higher bitrate a/v and hey... TrueHD. Imagine that. Region free too.

Terrible cover though.

It also is about $40-50 I believe. The German one is much cheaper.
Japan BluRay costs about ~60$.

German Version has the lowest Bitrate. It was the same trasfer with the USA but with different codec.

German Blu-Ray Specs:

Disc: BD-25 (20.64 GB)
Video: VC-1 / 1080p24 / 2.35:1 / 15.99 Mbps (Japan Version has 32.92 Mbps)

Audio: English DTS-HD Master 5.1 (48 kHz / 16-bit / 2287 kbps), German DTS-HD Master 5.1 (48 kHz / 16-bit / 2390 kbps

So the German is the middle ground. And, personally, I'd rather pay $20 for that than $60 for the Japanese.

If I was a big enough fan the superior $60 would be a no-brainer.
