Managed Copy a Work in Progress - Page 2

OK- well, he argument over the value of managed copy is great and all, and I certainly agree with anyone who uses Anydvd hd to rip their disks and run their own media servers, but as someone stated earlier, the process beyond ripping has not been completely perfected- the part involving movie selection and playback without any hindrance for Blu Rays. I want the Kaliedescape experience with Blu rays.

So the March 31st deadline came and went- what is the status with disks implementing managed copy?

There is nothing new on the AACS site about managed copy. Even if March 31, 2010 is the effective date for mandatory managed copy it may have little impact because the studios may decide to include a digital copy of a title. Therefore they would not be required to offer managed copy for that title.

Are these digital copies equal in resolution, nitrate, audio quality and every other respect to the original?

I have several different titles on digital copy disc but have ZERO interest in them and know little about them. Click here for a AVS search on key words Digital Copy.

Yeah... nothing there from your link. That said, Does anyone know if existing or future "included digital copies" are of the same quality as what is presented on the Blu Ray? I think I know the answer, but I want to be sure.

I have never heard of digital copy being a substitute for managed copy. Where did you read that?

According to what is supposed to happen - ALL Bluray discs will have the necessary add ons to be considered Managed Copy compliant.

The studios don't provide a digital copy for ALL BD releases.

Digital copies are smaller is size and quality. I wish there was more info than that though.

Its amazing how enthusiastic/excited the content providers are to enable managed copy, as evidenced by their feverish race to market and the vast space of compliant devices a consumer can purchase.

I cant wait to finally have a studio supported playback solution on my Dune Base 3.0 of my BD's in full unmolested quality!

2) They can leverage one of the limited exceptions in the agreements, which relate to the studio's rights to offer a digital copy.

3) They can simply breach the agreement, in which case they would be subject to damages listed in the agreement.

Can you detail this exception?

If this was directed to me then the answer is no. Richard Doherty is/used to be a AACS insider. If you want more details then I suggest asking Richard your question(s). However, he has not been active at AVS in many months.

iansilv, it helps to know who your questions are directed. Use the quote feature and the BBS will insert a quote. I usually delete most of a quote except the pertinent information. That makes it easier to follow a thread. If you question is not directed to anyone specific then a general post is OK.

Thanks Wendell. I guess in 900 posts I missed that.

So what happened here? A year later and we still have nothing. Did AACS change the rules because there are new BDs without DCs and AFAIK they don't have MC.
