Parenthood with Lauren Graham on NBC - Page 2

Just stopping by to say Lauren Graham is very pretty.
Oh boy, I wish I was married to her (For her looks.)

My wife and I love this show. The depth of the characters and story lines has gotten better with each episode. Life can be very complex without being overly dramatic and I think this show captures that.

I wonder how different the story would feel with Maura in part vs. Lauren. It seems to be a perfect fit for her. I'd love to see the lost pilot.

That might have alleviated the feeling I have that the story is forcing Graham to just repeat storylines from GG. One of the big first season plots was Lorelei dating Rory's English teacher.

I don't personally work on 'Parenthood', but yes, the company I work for does the effects for that show.

I wasn't really feeling it in the beginning, but every week it's been a hilarious train wreck. This should be a great example of "birth control" but that's a lost cause.

likewise here. We thought it was a good first season overall. Sure there are some ridiculous aspects (like the whole family always getting all together for something at the end of every episode), but in general it's been really good. There are certainly some interesting storylines with enough conflict/drama without being over the top. I was actually glad that Max's asberger's was not focused on/downplayed in the past couple episodes since its been a big part of the first season. It was good to have a break from it and have something else be the focal point.

We're really looking forward to it coming back next season! Does anyone know if it will be a full length season?

Totally agree. In a day of over-the-top story lines, I love shows that are just a bit understated. I'm going to miss this show over the Summer and I'm really looking forward to the return in the Fall.

hey vfxproducer - what kind of effects are done on a show like parenthood? Given that it's not a "special effects" kind of a show, is it mostly post-prod modification stuff like editing/modifying backgrounds, etc? I've never really considered what would go into a show like this.

Good question. I'm interested in hearing his answer too.

It's a lot of location enhancement. Keep in mind the show is shot in Los Angeles, but is supposed to take place in the San Francisco Bay area. So there is a fair amount of green screen to put Berekely and Marin county in the background. Also, anytime you see them driving around, that's visual effects.

You must be doing a great job because I didn't notice the special effects at all.
That's the goal of one kind good editing and special effects, you shouldn't notice it.

??? Why is the title of this thread "Parenthood with Lauren Graham" instead of just "Parenthood"? There are a number of well know actors in the cast, why single her out? This is an ensemble show.

When you start a thread, you can include the name of someone you think is "one of the best actresses of our time."

I can't take credit for it since I don't work on the show, but I will pass your compliment along to the people who do. Thanks.

I made that exact point some time ago.

Yeah, what he said... Hee hee.

AIUI, When Lauren left GG, it was to start a movie career. There were some of us that thought she would not ever return to TV, myself included. She was the major draw of what brought me to this show. Several other users mentioned similar sentiments in the HOTP thread (prior to Parenthood starting its run). I thought it was worth putting her name in the thread title for that reason. Obviously, it's not meant to be a diss to any of the other cast members.

And then Bad Santa faded away, as did her film career. So she crawled back to TV like so many of them do.

I dunno why, maybe since I'm partial to Brunettes but I've always liked her. With that said I've never watched that crap on WB she was on. Whatever it was called. I don't remember what else she was in.

Actually the reason could have been because Maura Tierney had been cast for the show, but later had to pull out due to her cancer. Lauren Graham's name in the thread title referenced that change.
Kinda glad that didn't pan out, although no offense to Tierney.

I just caught up with this week's episode and wow, what an emotional wallop it packed. The scene between the cousins at the truck stop was a killer. The entire cast is terrific but I do agree that Lauren Graham is something special. She just always hits the right notes in every scene.

Or, more likely, it's this:

Someone at EW.com saw the pilot with Maura Tierney, and he said she was fantastic in it. I have been watching Parenhood from the beginning and I am a huge fan of the show. I keep comparing it to the other show that deals with family, Brothers & Sisters. IMO, Parenthood is a far superior show. I was getting really tired of the "crisis of the week" at B & S. Parenthood has less melodrama, and more truer to life situations.

... And perhaps more nails-on-the chalkboard-screeching. Then again, I gave up on B&S a long, long time ago ...

I would love to see the original pilot...

Just found this thread, anybody still watching this show?

My wife and I enjoy it. It's one of the concessions I make for all the guy stuff she has to watch with me. There are quite a few women on this show that are pretty easy on the eyes too.

Nope ... but gave it one more episode this season.

Then again, I'm desperately trying to trim my TV time back down to where it was before so-called HDTV and DVR's took over my life.

This one just didn't make the cut ... All of the new "procedurals" are out too ... many old ones are teetering on the abyss.

I watch it even though it's a weekly train wreck.
