I bought the 590 because of the 250 gig hard drive. I have been searching for a non iPod music server solution for my home theater for quite some time, and all other possible solutions were significantly more expensive than the BD590. I prefer not to stream from my PC hard drives--Call me old school, but I like to keep my audio media seperate from anything on my pc. So far, I have archived 175 CDs at 320Kbps, and the LG does as advertised.
The video quality of BD and DVD is very good, and I am very impressed with the HD quality of VUDU HDX streams -- the audio is quite good, yet not as good as BD uncompressed...
A few quirks, and or things I would like to see in future updates:
--A screen saver on the music screens as well as Pandora. There is a screen saver on other portions of the menu, but not when playing music from the HDD
--The option to be able to add more than one playlist. Unless I simply have not figured it out, it seems that the only playlist I can customize in the playlist named "my playlist" It would be very useful to be able to create several different playlists, but it seems this is not an option.
--FLAC. Archiving using lossless would eat all 250 gigs pretty quickly, so I settled for 320Kbps, which is fine, but still a comprimise. The ability to archive using FLAC would be my ideal solution.
--Gracenote does not seem to have the cover art for any new releases I have purchased in the past month. Would also like to have a way to correct errant tagging---mostly in the wildly interpretive 'genre' section. The gracenote function is very good despite these two points
--Although it is not a priority for me, when trying to link my laptop through the homelink function, I also get a CIFS login screen. I have followed the many links regarding this on this thread, as well as have attempted every known password to no avail.
--There have been probably 2 or 3 instances where the 590 locked up. This has occurred mostly when switching menus or functions. Everything worked fine once I powered down the player and fired it back up again.
