Hi everyone. I'm sorry in advance if this question has been asked before.

I own a BD570 and with Windows XP I use to be able to share my network drives with the player. Now after upgrading to Windows 7 Ultimate I cannot share my whole drive. In order for me to share my drives I have to right click the drive and "Include In Library". This is very annoying but it works.

My question is has anyone successfully connected their WHOLE drive as a letter under the username, instead of having to enter the username > videos > folders > media?

Dependable? Wrong choice of words I suppose. Just not entirely user friendly for the average non techy type.

Compare these two pages:
http://www.lg.com/us/tv-audio-video/...ayer-BD570.jsp

http://www.lg.com/ca_en/tv-audio-vid...er-BD555C.jsp#

You will notice in the first one (for the BD570), the logos for Netflix, CinemaNow and Vudu are prominently displayed, also they are listed under "Specifications"

If you look at the second one (BD555C), none of these logos show up, they are not listed in the specs.
Conclusion: if you want these features, take back the BD555 and get one that has those features.

I've downloaded the latest firmware (two files). I've put the files on a Sandisk usb drive. Tried with files zipped and unzipped in the root directory. The BD570 just does not seem to recognize that an update is available on the usb drive. The player will recognize the drive and does play mp3s and I can view jpegs.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

You player is American? If not you must be download the firmware froam another place like LG Argentina, the American firmware "5100" no work in foreigner, the firmware must be "5200" named in file. You must be unzip the two files in "root" from USB pen pendrive or recordable CD, start the player without CD or USB device, after the player goes to main screen put the CD or pendrive teh upgrade "ballon" appears ;(

I don't recommend to use regular 7200rpm Seagate Barracuda drive as it will make noise and demand bigger wattage.

I went with the 2TB:

LP ST32000542AS 2TB 5900 RPM, which is the 2TB model w/6GB SATA Intfc

I received my BD 570 on Monday. I connected to my wireless network with ease, and upgraded to the latest firm ware.

1.first it downloaded, which took a long time and then it said i have to update, which also took a long time then the player powered itself off, is that normal? or should i do this whole thing again?

2. I shared all my video files, mp3 etc from my PC using the media server disk that came with the player,. It played every type of video file i had which is awesome.

3. But yesterday when i played "Bounty Hunter" blue ray, it played fine for a while an d then it became choppy !! sometime audio was out of sync, and the movie was not played continuously. It was so irritating, so i pressed stop on the remote and i pressed play again thinking it will resume,, but to my surprise it started all over from the beginning. But again the same issues,, so took the Blue ray disk out to check if there were scratches or dust, but the disk looked clean. But when played again we have the same issues,, where its not playing smoothly. Is there a fix for this, i tried changing the video resolution to 24 from 6x. Still the same problem, do i have to go to a downlevel firmware? I played the same movie from netflix which was fine.

Any help on this is greatly appreciated. I am wondering if this player is going to have lot of issues with playing Blue ray !!

1. So far, so good.
2. Great news!
3. These things still have bugs (CD's & BD's & DVD's). It can look perfect but have many defects. Like transferring a file from one computer to the next. The file "looks" OK but when you open it all is corrupted. Actually going to watch this flick tonight on my 570 so will report IF there are any issues that arise.

I love my player. Have had it for 2-3 months now and it has been solid. Enjoy!

Thanks Mondoju! I'm not sure why it didn't work correctly from the beginning, but all seems well now. The player has now been updated with the latest US firmware.

netflix streaming is great

BD sucks. i played my first movie and it skips a lot. the primary job of a BR player is to play BD's and that this player has lots of problems with.

My BD590 reports two updates, H80597 and BD.3.31.323C, are available for downloading. However I have tried numerous times to download the updates with each try ending with a DOWNLOAD FAILED message.

Then I tried to obtain the latest updates from the LG webpage here: http://www.lg.com/us/support/product...oduct-profile#

However the LG_BD_5100B30.ROM-00.zip and LG_BD_5100B30.ROM-01.zip files have update H80594 and BD.8.31.317C, not the new update noted above.

Anyone know where can I download the correct H80597 and BD.8.31.323C from?

I need an update that allows the playing of new Medici Arts Blu Ray releases. Those play fine on an older BD390 and a newer Sony BDP-S360, but results in an ERROR message on the BD590.

I got few more disks from the local library. I am going try those whenever i get a chance, if they cant play i am thinking of returning the player and getting a HTPC instead !! i wonder if all BR players have these kinds of issues or is just local to LG players ?

Or I'll just buy a PS3.

OK...see ya

OK, here is a new one that I am unable to find on this message board. I have the LG BD 570 with the most updated firmware (just updated), And am connected to a Samsung LCD HD Television (1080P, 24hz, LN46A650). Have read and experienced the issue with skipping of discs when 1080p is set to 24hz (found this issue with every movie I have watched thus far). Now, the problem is, if i set the 1080p hz setting to 60 (which apparently fixes the skipping problem?), the menu starts flickering and my TV eventually gives the message "mode not supported". I would think that it is a TV issue but in fact have had other devices that play 1080p @ 60hz fine (my older samsung bd player), so it just seems to be this player (this and other device have been plugged into the same HDMI port on the television). FYI, setting to 1080i works fine with the player. Also, when the player is set to 24hz, Youtube, weather and Cinema Now also flicker when i enter into them (since I think it is sending a 1080p 60hz signal. Is ANYONE else having this problem?

Hi Guys,

Hope someone can help me with this..

I was carrying out a firmware upgrade when I lost power. Now the player turns on and displays a constant left scroling 'hello' but nothing else works. I can hear the drive spinning up but I get no tv display and the unit does not respond to commands.

I have tried copying the new firmware files onto a disk and a usb pen to see if the unit would attempt a disk or usb based upgrade but this does not work either.

Holding the 'stop' button at power on brings up the number '12176' and pressing play alows me to cycle through the various 00, 01, 02, 03, 04 and 05 options so there is life in there somewhere (i have not changed any of these).

I have also tried what i believe to be the master reset, (power button held for 45 seconds with power off then apply power) Still no joy.

It looks like the firmware is corrupt.

Is there anyway I can force the unit to reflash from the disk/usb pen and recover from the corruption ?

Many thanks

If you have not called LG tech support at 1-800-243-0000 they may be able to walk you through a total reset to factory stored firmware. If they can not help try downloading and transferring the two bios update files here: http://www.lg.com/us/support/product...oduct-profile# and extract the files to the root directory of a clean USB memory device. They plug that in and try your startup routine and see if any of the options recognizes the firmware on the thumb drive. You will have to download the PDF instructions from the BD592 update instead of the BD590 as they have screwed up the link to the BD5xx instructions.

Hi,

Question: What is the right combination of video & audio codecs and container file that will allow home video conversions to play on the BD570? (I'm sorry if this has been answered before--I searched AVS but could not find any specific guidance.)

Background: I just got a BD570. I'm trying to convert old family videos from VHS & DV tapes into a format that can be played by the BD570 and my first several attempts have failed with some message to the effect that the file cannot be read. (The individual files on the DVDs I've burned are recognized, it's just that the player returns an error message when I try to play each one.)

From the BD570 literature, and some success stories I've read, I had the impression that it would play just about anything. However, I've seen some posts that indicate others have had trouble playing individual files, so perhaps I'm not alone.

I've got quite a few tapes to convert, so if possible I'd like to use individual files with the MPEG-4 AVC codec so I can fit a lot on each disc.

Current approach: I've used the Diamond One Touch Video Capture device to convert from VHS to files with "MPEG" codec, 720x480, and MP2 audio. I then use Avidemux to convert those files to (much smaller) AVI files using the MPEG-4 AVC codec with MP3 audio and then burn them with ImgBurn to a DVD with a UDF file system. I've tried ASP (Xvid), ASP (avcodec) video codecs and AAC, AC3, and MP3 audio codec all with an AVI container. I also tried the original MPEG file. Nothing has worked so far! Ugh!

Can anyone share some success stories of specific codecs and container formats that have been used to create home video files that can be played from a DVD (or attached USB disk) on the BD570?

Thanks!
I'm wondering if perhaps you could let Windows do the work for you. As a test, are you able to load your original mpeg files into Windows Movie Maker and author a DVD? If that works, it would point toward your authoring process.

When you say you're using imgburn, are you just burning the raw files onto the disk, or are you burning an authored DVD-type structure?

I'm no expert here at all at the various containers, but I have converted a couple of old tapes to DVD along the way. I used a commercial authoring program to create them using the raw capture mpeg files, but the 590 was able to read the resulting DVD just fine.

If you're just trying to create raw files to play rather than DVD-like disks, I'm wondering if using Handbrake to convert your original mpegs would work. I've had good success creating mp4 files in this way.
OldHouseJim, I'm fairly certain I've tried playing every single one of those file types on my BD570 without any problem whatsoever. One suggestion I have is to try using RipBot264 to do your x264 conversions. I ran some FLV videos I downloaded from YouTube through there and they were viewable with no problems via an SMB share.

Couldn't find how to start a new thread so I'm putting question here.

I've just received my new BD550(my first Blue Ray) and I'm in the process of setting it up.

1st - it checked for updates and found one, downloaded, not failed to update(twice). But that's not my question.

My BD550 is connected, with HDMI, to a Panasonic PT-AE700U projector.
I believe the projectors runs at 720P.
Will I see any better image with the player set at 1080I, 1080P or should it be set it to the same resolution as the projector, 720P?
And are there any other settings I should be concerned with?

I also have a BD550 and have it connected via HDMI to a Benq PE7700 projector. I find the best image is with the BD550 set to 720p. I find the 1080i to be on the soft side.

Pugnax555, thank you very much for your recommendation to use RipBot264. Switching to that converter was all I needed to do. I'm now in business!!!

antoniusy, a Data DVD is actually what I do want. It didn't seem to me that creating a DVD video (with a traditional DVD menu, etc.) would give me much over the file browsing I can do with the BD570, might prevent me from using the higher resolution video (not sure about that), and would take more time. I think I can fit a lot more video on each disc by going with MP4 and/or MKV files.

Thanks again, Pugnax555. RipBot264 worked like a charm!

Hey all. I just received my player today and set it up. I'm having a problem when I switch the player to 1080p (both before I upgraded the firmware and after). Everything's fine on 1080i, however, when I switch to 1080p, the screen starts (and keeps) flickering and showing snow on some parts. It stays that way until I switch it back to 1080p (I usually wait for a while to see if it goes away).

I've tried it on my 1080p TV and on my 1080p projector w/ two different HDMI cables that work fine w/ my Ps3. It happens regardless if I'm watching a movie or just at the BD570 menu. I'm connected via HDMI and my tv and projector are less than a year old. Any ideas?

*Edit*

Nevermind. I got those HDMI cables together. I used a HDMI cable from a different order, and it's fixed. Hopefully this will help someone else who has this problem.
