I was finally in a geeky mood and used your above advice. It worked out wonderfully and all the recent MKVs that did not play for me are now fine. Plus, it's an added bonus that, like you say, the process is very fast (less than 1 minute per file) - much better than the 2 hours it took me with Handbrake.
