kenn1980,
I was finally in a geeky mood and used your above advice. It worked out wonderfully and all the recent MKVs that did not play for me are now fine. Plus, it's an added bonus that, like you say, the process is very fast (less than 1 minute per file) - much better than the 2 hours it took me with Handbrake.
Thanks!
PS. Every file that did NOT play for me was originally created with version 4.8.0.

Complete name : L:\\Video\\Arthur (2011).mkv
Writing application : mkvmerge v4.8.0

smetaxas,
I have an idea as to why that file won't play for you. See my recent posts about problem MKVs and mkvmerge v4.8.0. You will also find a solution to fixing the file in my post just prior this one.
Best of luck!

Hi, first sorry for my poor english, i decide to write here to give some informations about some points :

Your problem is about those options :

Video
Muxing mode : Header stripping

Audio
Muxing mode : Header stripping

You need to remux your file with mkvmerge (whatever the version) with desactivate it in mkvmerge parameters by quoting "Disable header removal compression for audio and video tracks by default".

This action works fine so with mkv's which don't works fine with ours BD570.

Other point is about a question asked there is a time.

It possible to install a us firmware (or another) on a none-us platine. I did myself on my BD570.

The solution is to rename the file with you region-name firmware.

For example : Us firmware call "5100-B30.ROM" et french firmware call "5300-B30.ROM". You only need to rename "us firmware like the french : "5300-B30.ROM" and put in on the usb key.

If you are in another region change "5100" by your "5X00" region.

To reverse, you need to rename your original firmware like the us it (because now the player is recognize like a us one).

I test this a lot of time with success and no problems.

Bye guys !

The problem is simply that mkvmerge v4.8.0 defaults to header compression where version 4.0.0 defaulted to no compression. I now remember that there was a conversation in this thread about just that problem a while back and it should come up in a search.

Thanks for having this problem (in a nice way) as I now have a much faster way to reencode my problematic files!!!

is there anyway we could get a hold of LG and ask them to support the header compression feature?

"we"? I don't know what that is and honestly don't care. 'YOU' on the otherhand can contact them about it. Let us all know how that works out for ya...

Sorry, got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning...

I use this:

Vid2EVA is not limited to Netgear media players at least for header compression removal. Have not used it for other functions.
It provides a context menu with "strip header compression" as an option.

If it is present it will be removed, if not the MKV will be left alone.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, Phase700B!

So, a firmware upgrade would not fix this issue ?

Does anyone know the remote code for Blu-ray BD570, I'm trying to get my direct tv remote to turn the 570 on and off. Thanks.

I am trying to get my 590 to render subtitles. I have ripped DVDs to VOBs and have set up Serviio to act as a DLNA server. But when I play the VOBs there are no subtitles. Any tips on what I need to do? I am fairly confident that the ripped VOBs do contain the subtitles. I used CloneDVD to do the ripping and always select the subtitles. Then just outputted it to VideoTS with Vobs.

Thanks,

Marc

To have the LG play subtitles for a specific movie, you need to place a ".srt" (subtitle) file along side a ".mpg" file of the same name in the same directory on the server machine. For example, if you have a movie named "Movie3.mpg" in a directory of assorted movies, you need to add "Movie3.srt" in the same directory. You can easily find these subtitle files available at multiple internet web sites where subtitles are collected. Unfortunately, the subtitles embedded in VOB files are video overlays, not text, and the LG cannot process them (that is, it can't overlay two video streams from the same mpeg-2 file.) The .srt files, on the other hand, are simple text files with a time-stamp and text for each successive subtitle. There are ways to convert the overlays into text, but they are ugly - better you should find the subtitles online.

If you insist on keeping multiple VOB files for a whole movie, you'll have to make multiple .srt files too, using perhaps Subtitle Workshop. Better you should use a single .mpg file and a single .srt file.

I believe the LG will also work with ".sub" files, another textual format for subtitles, which is an alternative if you can't find the ".srt".

Sounds neat - I'll have to give it a try. Thanks.

Hello all, running latest f/w on my bd590c I'm trying to copy a movie from my pc to my LG the movie is in dvix format. It transfers the movie because you see the progress bar working. my question is once this is done the movie is not in the folder, yet if I do manual search for it i can see it and play it. i tried the default movie folder as well as renaming a folder for that movie I get the same thing. is it because it is a Divx format? thanks oh btw im transferring to the Lg internal HD

I searched the thread but couldn't find a comment on this... anyone else figure out a workaround to watch .wtv files from my home network on the LG BD 570?

A quick internet search turns up a $30 solution: http://www.bigasoft.com/wtv-converter.html . Seem to be others out there, perhaps even free ones. An internet search engine (e.g.: yahoo, google, bing) is your friend.

Beyond what frank70 said, you might try to see if you can find a DLNA server that can transcode that type of file into a format that the 570 can read. That would be the only way to avoid manually converting each file.

I have been experimenting the DLNA recently and am having pretty good luck with Serviio. So far I know that it will allow me to play .vob files and .m4v files with the LG profile that comes with the software. I don't have any .wtv files to test though.

Just in case anyone is interested on seeing the inside of a BD590.

Mine does not play Bluray disks anymore.

LG is asking 70$ to fix this.

Completely absurd,
considering the unit is 9 months old and under parts warranty.

I barely used it (a movie a week at most).

Pic of main board:

Pic of the Blue and Red laser optics:

Pic of underside of disk tray:

The Blue laser makes a 'clicking' sound when trying to read Bluray Disks.

Anyone know how to fix this ?

It would be interesting to hook that hard drive up to a Linux box and see what files other than your media is on the drive. I was told by a tech support person at LG that if the drive goes bad, I would be able to still watch disk based movies in the player and I can simply replace the hard drive with a similar drive. I would also like to know what file format is the drive formated in?
Can't use it for streaming anymore? Can't you just R/R the optical drive from a cheap busted one on ebay or something?

Seems to me the units that go bad are ALWAYS the one that wasn't used very much. I use the hell out of my player and (knock on wood) nary an issue have I had.

Sorry, I don't. But you might try a search on Youtube. I had an LG monitor die a couple of weeks ago. Fortunately it was still under warranty so I sent it in to LG. While I was waiting, I found a video on Youtube on replacing the capacitors in an LCD monitor (seems this is a common problem). So, hopefully you could find a helpful video there too.

I got my LG monitor back today, fixed, so I'm very happy right now (just crossing fingers it stays fixed).

I would bet that the optical drive is one of the components most likely to fail though, which could make this difficult.

bd570 via HDMI to Denon AVR 1610

my current settings for audio are both pass thru, sampling freq 192khz. everytime i watch a movie my Denon receiver recogizes the DTS HD coming from the player, everything is encoding properly but no audio whatsoever. If you pause the movie and then play, perfect audio, skip forward a chapter...no audio.....move back a chapter and then forward again...perfect audio. Its getting really annoying, my other Samsung bluray player that was hooked up to my Denon never had any problems at all....perfect DTS HD and DOLBY TRUE HD everytime. Any one have any ideas.

I know this isnt an issue with my receiver......hopefully worked perfect up until the switch to the bd570

Is anyone still having wireless network connectivity problems with the BD570? I own two of them and one connects just fine, but the other one doesn't even pick up my network anymore. I had updated to the latest firmware and I also tried to do a firmware upgrade by USB, but it still doesn't work. I have reverted to several different firmware versions by USB and still no network is detected. Every other device in my house picks up my network at full strength, so it is definitely not a router issue.

I would try replacing your hdmi cable to see if that impacts this issue first and perhaps try different hdmi ports on the AVR. Also try changing the boot sequence. Recommended power up sequence is TV, AVR, BD player (allow time for each device to boot up before the next.)

I wouldn't assume this isn't an issue with the AVR either, you should try resetting the microprocessor on your Denon if the issue persists (though be advised that you will have to set up the receiver again including running the Audyssey set-up, etc. if you do that.)

Try setting up the device that is not working in the same location as the unit that is working. If that fails try initializing the player via the setup menu under other.

If that fails contact support, you may have a hardware failure in the wireless component.

I never had any luck with the 570 and wireless. I use ethernet with it and it is fine. Set up a wireless client bridge out where your tv and stuff is or use a powerline adapter.

That's what I was afraid of. I'm kicking myself now. I just sold a Buffalo wireless ethernet converter last week for about $30 less than retail.

I am working with LG support since I am still within 1 year, but I'm not sure what they will end up telling me.

570 wireless & Cisco works fabulously. Never an issue with the combo.

I have tried .360.c for a few days, and found lots of sound synch issues in Netflix with it.. so back to .323.c... I had read many people thought this issue was fixed in .360.C, but I guess not. Anyone else see this?

You are absolutely correct - no firmware release since .323.C has been free from Netflix lip-sync issues (some work better than others, but not on all shows and movies.) See my prior post on this here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...9#post20818679
