Hex codes to modify what, the region code?

On another note:
Are there any BD or DVD disks that theese players have issues with?
Someone mentioned the Green Lantern, any others?

Or does the latest 362C FW solve all issues?

Trying to figure out the best container format to play HD MPEG-2 video with AC3 audio on the BD570 via a DVD disc (no network, no BD).

Can anyone verify whether the player will play the following:
  • HD MPEG-2 video / AC3 audio muxed into AVCHD format (non-standard AVCHD with MPEG-2, not MPEG-4 AVC video) then burned to DVD
    • FF/RW?
    • Do subtitles work?
    • Do chapters work?
    • Mulitple audio streams supported?

Update - I decided to do some testing and verified that MPEG-2 / AC3 will work burned to DVD in BD format.
  • Plays - HD MPEG-2 video / AC3 audio assembled into Blu-ray Disc format (BDMV/STREAM folders, etc) and burned to DVD instead of BD
    • Yes - FF/RW
    • Yes - Do subtitles work?
    • Yes - Do chapters work?
    • Not Tested - Multiple audio streams supported?
  • Plays - MPEG-2 / AC3 in an MPG file
    • No - FF/RW
    • No - Do subtitles work?
    • No - Do chapters work?
    • Not Tested - Multiple audio streams supported?
  • Doesn't Play - MPEG-2 / AC3 in an MKV file

I've already discovered, and have found some corroboration, that it will not play MPEG-2 in an MKV file, and will play MPEG-2 in an MPG file, but FF/RW won't function.

I would like to find if there's a container that will support FF/RW, chapters, subtitles, and multiple audio streams for HD MPEG-2 on DVD.

Thanks!

I have had success using the current version of Roxio Toast to burn HD MPEG2 files to what they call a 'High Definition DVD'. I may have had to manipulate preferences, but I'm pretty sure the video was kept in MPEG2/AC3 and was essentially a Blu-ray folder structure. I have a BD570 and a BD670 and I know at least one if them if not both played a test disc I made. Not sure if Toast keeps the subtitles let alone if the player plays them, but i would guess it would. Sorry for the lack of specifics, I am planning to do more of this and will try to follow up then with my results, but it may be awhile.

Mr D
I assumed no one else received the same "Disk Error" within this forum regarding Green Lantern as no one has ever responded to my question posted on 11/1/2011. I have since exchanged the blu-ray disk and still have the same error + I have already upgraded to the latest firmware.... No change

THIS CAME HERE TO ORDER NUMBERS
01133
02 94
03 01
04 00
05 00
01 00

TO NAVIGATE Thereafter CONTROL AND PRESS PLAY TO CHANGE THE NUMBERS PRESS THE KEYS <<>> THE UNIT BD
AFTER CHANGING THE NUMBERS TO END PUSH POWER

I didnt understand very well...
Could you explain detailled???
This procedure unlock all regions or change the region?!?!

My device is a Brazilian BD560..

Thanks for the response. In reading Roxio's marketing info (here), it mentions that you can burn HD content to a DVD and play it on "your set-top Blu-ray Disc player". That would indicate it's just putting the content in a BD folder structure, and muxing it to M2TS format.

But it also mentions AVCHD, and doesn't state whether that's how it formats the content.

Not all BD players play AVCHD, though not all BD players play Blu-ray files off a DVD, either.

So, marketing, as usual, fails to communicate the actual capabilities.

One thing to note is that there is an 'AVCHD archive' option for project type in Toast (designed for use with AVCHD video cameras), which is different than the 'High Definition DVD' option. I tested the latter option in my LG. I would guess that the AVCHD option would not encode MPEG2, and/or may require you to have your files in the correct folder structure.

I feel my pre/pro will probably do a better job of upscaling than my BD550 so I'd like to have the 550 just output the original signal without upscaling it to test my theory. I can't find anywhere in the menus that that is possible. Anyone know of a way of doing that?

Meaning if a DVD is 480 thats what I'd like my pre/pro to receive.

Unfortunately, I don't think you're overlooking anything. My BD570 and BD670 just have fixed resolution output options, there is not any kind of 'native' resolution output option as far as I know.

Thats what I figured, but thought I'd ask. I was online chatting with a customer service person who said the same thing. Not a deal breaker but it would be nice to have pass through video.

Which DLNA server are you using? Has it worked for you with previous firmware versions?

I have had success running Serviio, with my BD570, but have not had success with some other DLNA servers including PS3MediaServer and TVMobili. My impression is that the LG DLNA implementation is buggy and/or limited and that some servers do a better job than others at communicating with LG devices.

Hi, have you try to play Green Lantern with firmware 211.C ?
It's an old one but without any problems.

Tell us your results.
Thanks

Hmmm. I watched Green Lantern a few days ago with no issue on firmware 360.C
This was on a 570 with component video / optical audio.

Hello, folks.

I have an LG BD550 player, and ran into a particular problem laid out very well on this site:
(sorry, can't post URLs--search "lg bluray player netflix "problem" "instant" -amazon" on google and it's the seventh result, on hackingnetflix dot com)
Namely, the number of items in my instant queue doesn't match what the BD550 shows.

My wife added Dylan Dog last night to the instant queue, set it to number one. But when we sat down to watch it, the BD550 showed the #2 as #1, and didn't show #1 anywhere. I double-checked on netflix.com--it was there. We then noticed netflix.com showed about a dozen more items in queue than the BD550.

So I called Netflix, they told me LG writes the software, and to call them. I called LG, they told me it was a Netflix issue. Here's the steps I've taken:
Tried to find the movie on Recently Watched--wasn't there either.
Deleted and re-added movie to queue.
Deactivated all Netflix devices, and re-enabled.
Did a "hard reset" on BD550 (unplug, hold power button for 1 min).
Updated to latest firmware version.
Added and deleted from Instant Queue from BD550--these changes took.

None of this helped. The really odd thing, though, is after I deactivated all devices, the BD550 still loaded Netflix and showed most of the Instant Queue--leading me to believe that info is stored on the device itself, and might not be updating correctly.

Anywho, you folks here seem to know your stuff, so I made and account and posted. Has anyone here had these issues, and found a workaround?

Thanks for reading this, and thanks again if you can help.

I was using the built-in Windows Media Player DLNA server for almost a year now with no issues. Just switched to Serviio, and I'm back online. Thanks!

That's frustrating. Especially the he said/she said bit that you got from Netflix and LG.

What was the timeframe between your adding to Instant Queue and then searching for it? Also, how many items do you have in your queue? Just wondering if there is a delay in adding to the queue and it being viewable in the queue. I haven't experienced this issue myself but figured I would try to help troubleshoot.

She added this on Saturday evening, and we were trying to watch it Sunday at 3 in the afternoon.

I thought it might have been Netflix server issue they had last night--but today I signed in, checked the queue (it's at 110), but the LG still only shows 107. Streaming is working fine otherwise--but with no way to search by title, there is no way to access a film if it doesn't show up in the different groups.

I know the LG only shows up to 75 selections in any of the other categories, so I suspect 107 in the instant queue is pushing it (you might consider it fortunate that you can get past 75.)

Top line is not a hex code as they can only be 2 digit, but the rest appears to be hex. I opened a an LG .rom file using a hex editor just for fun yesterday and was astounded at the size. It doesn't appear that an "all regions" fix will be available any time soon. I was hoping to modify my location to make NetFlix available in my Canadian ISP area code - (good luck with that.) LG has no intention of updating the firmware to enable NetFlix in Canada.

I believe that Netflix has some movies encoded only in formats which can not be supported by certain players, in which case you'll simply see no sign that that movie exists when browsing from that player. I don't think there's anything you can do, other than wait until that movie becomes available in a format your LG player can support. Note that I don't have official verification that this is the issue, but I believe it's likely.

hmmmmmmm...I don't know either way but I will add that when I'm signed in to my youtube channel on the 550 it lists only about half (50? 60?) of my favorites.
Whay is the latest and greatest FW version and does it fix everything like the softer NF and poor YT performance as well as play any BD? Or is .323 still the best, least trouble free version?

For the poster with the queue NF issue, have you tried reverting back to .323? That FW is the most stable of any so far (barring the replies I receive to my querry, above).
I'm seeing the same thing as senselocke. I was originally on fw 323, upgraded to the latest to see if it would fix it - nope. I can also confirm there's a slight lip-sync issue with the latest fw (ugh) - more noticeable on some titles than others. I plan on going back to 323 (yet again).

Here's some more info: if I play a 'missing' title for a few seconds on my computer, it sometimes shows up in the 'Recently Watched' section. I tried this with a couple titles and about half of them showed up on the bd590 after a couple hours. Once accessible from the Recently Watched section, they played fine - so it's not an encoding problem. Not sure why some showed up but others didn't - they all show up as recently watched on netflix.com.

All of the problematic titles have been pretty new releases. My queue is also hovering around 56 right now - beneath the supposed limit of 75. And adding older titles show up fine. One of the titles that wouldn't show up in the queue, but would show up in Recently Watched, is Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

I determined youtube cut out certain videos of my favorites (I think the missing ones where all vevo music videos) cause the lg doesnt show the advertisements. but that wont apply to netflix

I have been advised that on the Canadian BL players that will stream NF that there is a 3 week waiting period from the release date before they can be streamed in Canada.
Huh? Perhaps this is related to your problem jazzman99 ???

Good luck if you're trying to use the stuff it shipped with for your DNLA needs. I had trouble with that stuff since day one. If you haven't yet, check out serviio.org for something more reliable and free.
