Back in November, Geoffery Morrison wrote a great 2 part article on Cnet about HDMI cables and why they are all the same (his words, not mine). If you haven't yet, check it out: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7...e-same-part-2/

I agree whole heartedly with him. I love my LG BD 550 and I love the hdmi cable from Monoprice that I have connecting it to my tv.

I have made two pics and this is BluRay ; http://imageshack.us/g/864/img2146n.jpg/

Do anyone know what is going on with it ?

Have you confirmed that the 550 is not playing in Vivid mode? Press 'Info' on the remote when watching a video and check.

I finally updated the firmware on my player to the latest version. So far, so good. I tried playing Toy Story 3 on 24Hz and it did not skip once. So far all is well.

Any known issues I should test?
Netflix lip sync issues...SDVD playback issues also.
I cancelled Netflix, so can't check that.

VUDU movie I watched played perfectly with zero lip sync issues.

Anything else?

After installing the new firmware update, I had major sound drop offs intermittently throughout playing the Police blu ray concert disc. It plays perfectly on my first generation Sony Blu ray player, so I want to roll back to an the earlier 323 firmware.

Can someone be so kinds as to post the links to where I can find them?

Thanks in advance.

Sound drop offs continued until I shut off BD Live. Not sure why anyone needs it on, especially for a concert video.

Finished watching it and played fine. Back with .323 firmware update and have no plans to update until they finish fixing all these issues.

Come on LG. Your customers deserve better.
Glad to hear. Yes. .323 is the only FW worth having. And VERY unlikely there will be any further updates for the 5xx models...

was hoping netflix would be added to uk models of this bluray player as netflix has now launched in the uk as of 2 or 3 days ago

I want to buy a new player that has been as good as my LG BD570C. Can anyone recommend an alternative? My local Future Shop and Best Buy no longer carry the 570.

I mainly use my BD570C to stream 720p MKV files from my shared folders on my home (wired) network. So far it has been working great. Other than the odd mkv file that wont play. Not a big deal though because in those cases I just play the file on VLC or WMC as my 42 Samsung Plasma is plugged into my desktop.

I'm looking for the minimum, wifi, DLNA certified, .mkv support etc.

Any suggestions?

The BD670 is the 2011 model that replaced the BD570. It offers basically the same features as the BD570, plus more streaming apps, 3D support, etc. (I have both models and prefer the BD670).

LG just announced new models at CES, among them, the BP620, which appears to have similar features to the BD670. However, it will probably be a few months before the 2012 models hit store shelves.

Just make sure you read reviews on the new model before you purchase!

Plex WILL NOT handle DVD movies (VOB) files in your library. It will only enable you to play avi (DIVX) files.

By the way. I saw it mentioned twice that on the BD550 you had to change the output to 1080p, which I now realize is true.

My question is HOW?

TIA,

Hi there I cannot seem to update my LG BD560 Blu-Ray player by either USB or DVD+R disc. I have copied the files LG_BD_5100B30.ROM-00 & LG_BD_5100B30.ROM-01 in the root directory or the USB or DVD and when I plug in the usb the player the screen just turns to Movie/Picture/Audio with ok at the bottom instead of going into software update mode and if I try the DVD+R way I put in the DVD+R and its says Data top left and then goes back to the home screen - I dont know what I am doing wrong and why the player will not go into software update mode. I have contacted LG support but they have just suggested unzipping the files that where downloaded which I already have done so any more suggestions would be great thanks.

Those two file names are for US models. The BD560 is a foreign model, and as I recall the firmware files have different names (mentioned in this forum somewhere, but if I don't know what it is, I can't search for it ) I'm trying to look it up...

Found it... The firmware names for the 560 have "5200" in place of "5100". You need to find the correct files for your model.

Ah right thanks for that - found the LG_BD_5200M50.ROM on the LG UK website for my model, same thing though just copied it to the root of my usb stick and on screen all I have is "USB" Movie/Photo/Music and it still does not go into firmware update screen. Back to square one. Picture included when I plug the USB stick in:

Hmm... the "M50" part doesn't sound right, I think it still needs to be "B30" and I think there still need to be 2 files, "-00" and "-01". I think the "M50" is for the BD551.

The pop-up you are getting is what you would normally get if the drive didn't contain the firmware files.

01 132
01 00
02 91
03 00
04 00
05 00

These appear to be hex codes and can be modified by pressing >> for the first digit and << for the second digit.

saw this from an earlier part of the thread - just to let people know not to do the mistake i did. I have a UK model BD560 and wanted to have a little mess around so on line number 02 91 I changed mine from the default of 02 94 to 02 91 to see what happened, on reboot of player The LED front panel on the player of my BD560 no longer works properly now and all random digits flash now! - I think the rest of the player works all right though it seems to its just affected the front panel LED display.
Whats more now is I cannot long press stop on the player to get to the line 02 91 to change it back to 02 94 now because long pressing the stop button does not bring up 01133 now on the LED :-(

Result, managed to update the player fine only when I copied both the H08SAN.BIN and the LG_BD_5200B30.ROM-00 & LG_BD_5200B30.ROM-01 so it must have been the H08SAN.BIN file that was vital to tell the machine to go into update mode.

So I decided to share out a folder on my son's Win XP Pro SP-3 system allowing full access to the share to anyone on my local network. I copied an MKV file there and voila it works. See attached photo below. The Ryan-Wizard computer shows the Movies_Ryan share and when I open it the MKV is there and can be played.

Now the motleypixel computer is our main system Win 7 64bit SP-1 and it used to show a share called MOVIES UNDER it but now when I press enter on this system it asks for CIFS authentication and when I use a simple account UN/PW that has FULL ACCESS to the MOVIES share and press okay, it just returns me back to the Home Link main menu. If I enter the wrong pw etc. it does squak that invalid un/pw entered.

I event went to the extent to remove the share and re-add the share as a different namegiving read rights to anyone on my network and no-go. So something is wrong here, just don't know what it is yet.

The MOTLEYPIXEL:MOTLEYPIXEL works but I don't know what flavor of connection this isI'm thinking it may be the media center connection? One thing that's odd is when I use that option I can navigate to the share on this system but it only shows MP4's (see I think it's a media center thing that has issues with MKVs). Regardless, I never used that method, just the standard DNLA CIFS connection with the computer monitor/tower icon.

Thanks,
Roy

Has this problem been resolved yet?

I am having the same problem as stated above. I cannot stream or even see .MKV files after Win7 64 SP-1 update

It worked perfect prior to the update

Thanks!

Are you able to bitstream the DD+ from Vudu with the 590?

I can with the 570 so I can only presume the 590 is equally capable.

Hello everyone,
tried to find a solution through the post, but no way.
I have a BD570 that is awesome for playing a lot of format. I mainly use it for DLNA an it plays almost everything.
I use it to read a share on a nas device (QNAP) without any problem except one.

When I play full HD movies (big files raging from 4 to 25 GB) during the play it seems that the video stutters... Every second it loses a fraction of time gettin it to go as an hiccup (sorry, but for me it's difficult to explain in English). Tried every type of config with no result.
It's strange that if I play it from the DLNA feature of my LG 47LE8800 I get NO problem, so it's related to the player.

Can anyone help/assit me?

Thanks!

Marco

I have been having some issues with video with my BD570, and I am not sure if it is my receiver, or this device, or cables. I need to pick up another HDMI cable so decided to just get a couple and replace the ones I have on there and see if it fixes my issue. When ordering from Monoprice, which cables do you usually go with (I prob would go with 6ft)?

I buy Mediabridge Ultra Series - High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet

Seriously??? Just get the length you need. If you NEED 6ft then get them. If you NEED 3ft, get that instead... You don't need the most expensive. I have the cheapest and they work great for a couple 4-5 years now.
My question wasn't about the length, I will go with 6ft, but more what gauge, since they mentioned that the cheapest ones introduce too much resistance for a receiver.
