Attention Everybody, New models are right around the corner. Some may wish to wait on that, or be looking to buy in a few months.

Great deals to be had on last years models.

Im deciding on choosing the
Samsung Ln40c530 or 550
Panasonic Tc-l42u25

Im just want the one that has better picture quality.Specs wise the Panasonic should be better, but specs isn't everything.
Also I going to use the tv as a second moniter, so would 120 hz be better or 60 hz with that set up ?
Thanks

I have yet to see any great deals. Sears has a lot of there TVs for upto 30% off, but most of those are only down maybe $50-200 from what they were last week.

When will we start seeing the real closeout deals?

All of next years Tv's seem to have 3d which i could care less about. I want internet features with built in wifi and a good picture. I'm skeptical about waiting because I think i'll end up paying the same price as I would now and the only benefit will be worthless 3d.

Hey everybody, I'm planning to buy my 1st HDTV soon. I have narrowed it down to LN55C650 and LN46C750 and would appreciate it if someone can offer their opinions on what to choose from. I'm planning to use the TV for watching sports, gaming, and shows and it will be placed in a bedroom. Watching distance will be about 10-15 ft away from screen.

I can get the LN55C650 for $1196.00 or the LN46C750 for $1056.01. Which would be the best to get for the best picture quality and pricing? I'm tempted to get the LN46C750 because it's a newer model, it has 3D ready, and it has a 240HZ. The LN55C650 has everything the LN46C750 has except no 3D ready, lower contrast black ratio, the screen is 55" and it has a 120HZ for only $140 more.

Which to get? Thanks!

Hello!

Looking to buy in a few weeks.
Budget $2000
size 55"
LCD/and or LED
240hz
distance about 12 feet.
Room light not an issue

Uses: I'll mainly be gaming on XBOX, PS3, Wii and watching movies/tv content directly from my computer
(I'm not a FP shooter person, but love rhythm games so a TV without lag is an very important)
I was about to pull the trigger on the Sammy UN55C8000 but then got spooked with all the lag input warnings.

Any suggestions for a top end 55 inch gaming TV?
Heard the LG - 55LE8500 or Sony KDL55NX810 might be an alternative. Open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks in advance EV!

Ive seen a couple. Sometimes you just have to be at a store when the gettin is good.

I saw a 60EX500 for $1100, just recently.

I still maintain that Pre Christmas is generally the best time to buy, as plenty of units still left and prices have been dropping all year, then the Christmas sales happen. Plus most of the sets are well known by then, which are the good'uns and which suck, and which have issues.

Budget
$1000
Seating distance
Varied
Size/placement limitations
~42 inch, wall mounted
Uses
BUSINESS / PUBLIC VIEWING for a drs office
promotional videos
loops of powerpoint type stuff
Sometimes news TV stations
Sources
Mounted or hidden ITX PC, cable box
Room lighting
Lots of background light. Typical fluorescent lighted office.

Other needs
Thin bezel required. Thin profile desired but not a deal breaker. Screen burn is a concern. Durability is also a concern but dont have the budget for $5000+ public tvs with thick scratch resistance glass etc.

Thanks!
Ok, one more try taking the budget out of the equation and greater size range!

Budget: $$$
Seating distance: ~10 ft.
Size/placement limitations: ~42"-47"
Uses and sources: HD cable TV and PS3
Room lighting: Will be in a bright room w/ windows facing TV

Would like low input lag for gaming
Need good viewing angles
LED/LCD only if it is full array w/ local dimming

Thanks again EV!

Looking for a 55" 240hz LED TV. I do NOT need 3D capability.
Edge-lit LED is fine.
It seems like all the deals I see lately have 3D capability.
To me it's just a fad and it gives the companies more reason to bump up the price, but that's for another discussion.
I would prefer a Samsung or Sony.
Just curious to know what's out there for $2k or under.
Budget
- $1,000 +/- a few hundred if it's absolutely worth it

Seating Distance
- 8-12 feet (different seats in living room)

Size/placement limitations
- Not looking to wall-mount any time soon whatsoever.
- You tell me what size I should go for based on my budget and seating distance (I'm guessing between 40-50"?)

Uses and sources:
- 90% watching movies (current blu-ray player is Samsung BD-C5500)
- 10% watching tv (comcast cable. primarily hockey, food network, random other stuff)
- My DVD collection is all standard-def DVD's. I plan on sloooooowly upgrading my collection to blu-ray, so I need something that will make both blu-ray and standard def. DVD's look good.

Lighting
- Room isn't too bright. It's going to sit in front of two windows that face east. Therefore, sun will pour in behind it all morning, but we always keep those blinds closed. Once sun is on other side of house, it barely comes in this room. At night, room is usually lit by one small 60w lamp when watching TV. Would prefer matte finish.

Basically I'm looking for something that's great for watching movies (good blur reduction, good contrast ratio and deep blacks) and will also look good when I want to watch some hockey or whatever might be on TV. Now I've heard a bit about 120hz HDTV's and how they make movies look very polished and TV-like, so most people take it off 120hz when movie-watching. I've also heard the 120hz works wonders when watching sports (especially hockey). So if this is the case, I'd like a set that allows me to switch from 120hz to a lower number and back again. Some people attribute it to certain companies' attempts at smoothing or anti-juddering or whatever the jargon or terms are. Basically, I want my movies to look like they should, and my TV to look like it should.

I'd prefer 1080 so hopefully my specifications yield some 1080 options. Energy efficient is nice. And as always, something that will last and be reliable. And hey. I know there's no price talk or site linking allowed, but if the TV has financing options available somewhere, or it's about to become cheaper because of new models about to be released, that would absolutely help. So just give me a nudge to let me know and I'll go out and scavenge.

Thanks much.

Sorry for posting this in the main forum

I'm getting close to doing a complete upgrade on my existing home theater setup, new TV, receiver. (I'm currently rocking a pre-hdmi 1080i RPTV with major overscan issues).

I have an idea of what I want but I need some suggestions to help guide me through the many options.

My current wish list:

TV
  • Currently Leaning towards LCD
  • +/-55" Screen Size, 1080p
  • Wall Mountable
  • 240hz (assuming LCD)
  • Local Dimming (assuming LCD)
  • 1:1 Pixel Ratio for HD content /be able to turn overscan off
  • 3D Support (nice to have, but not a deal breaker)
  • Network and App support (netflix, vudu, etc. Nice to have, but not a deal breaker)
  • Discreet code support
  • Excellent picture quality is desirable

I'm looking to spend probably no more than $2k, with a total HT budget of around $4k.

My current devices & Media:
Tivo - HD TV, Downloaded Media
Xbox 360 - HD Games, Standard DVDs
Wii - Standard-def games
PS3 - HD Games, BluRay Media

I'd love to get brand and model recommendations, as well as any general advice on what I should look for. I'll probably be pulling the trigger on this around spring time, if that matters.

Looking for LCD LED or Plasma to the sunlit room. Busted 55LE8500 LG and LG 60PK950 due to the mirror. Eliminated the Sony KDL-52NX800 because it is a mirror in it.

Can anyone suggest two models at a similar price LCD and Plasma 55'-60 '?

I would like to make this the version of the 2D and the budget is similar to the above.

The light from 08:00AM to 20:00PM bursts through a window on the left side.

Sorry for my english

What happenned to all the Sony 46" lcd sets. I went into Costco and all they have is the 32 - 40" sets that is under $800.00.
They have big sets. They are 3D and led and $1200.00 and up..............
I DON'T WANT THAT...........
Did I wait to long to find one???
I will be buying from Costco Best Buy, Walmart, or Sears
post #2415 of 4421
1. Budget - $1000
2. Seating distance - about 6-8 feet
3. size/placement limitations - 47" max on stand
4. uses and sources - Hd and bluray 50% xbox 360 40% computer 10%
5. room lighting - Dark

Hello all. I've come close to picking out some tv's but need some input. I've pretty much ruled out plasma because of burn in. Looking at sony 40 and 46 ex500 and LG 42ld550 and 47ld650. I've read that lg has low input lag and sony has some issues with ghosting. Any recommendations on these or other televisions would be great. I have a Dell 24 inch moniter and i'm really tired of it.

I'm really glad I found these forums and thanks for any help
post #2416 of 4421
1. Budget - £300 - 450 (absolute max)
2. Seating distance - About 4 - 5 feet
3. Size/placement limitations - No more than 42", it'll be on a stand
4. Uses and sources - Sky+ HD mostly, Bluray & Xbox 360.
5. Room lighting - Dark

I was looking at the Sony Bravia 40" EX403, I'm wondering if this is the best option for my budget?

Also, I currently have the Samsung 37" LE37R87BDX/XEU which is 720p and lacks a lot of the Bravia's features, so I'm guessing the Sony would be a noticeable upgrade both in picture quality and functionality?

Thanks for any help.
I'm looking for a 37" 1080p TV for a bedroom...
do I need it to be 120hz?
I will mostly be viewing HD satellite programs and some sports with an occasional movie here and there. I would like to keep the cost below $600.

so far the TV I keep coming back to is the Panny TC-L37U22...any others I should be looking at?

thanks for the help!
That panny and there's a 40 inch 1080p toshi that's been doing well around the forums. With your needs I'd go with build quality and reliability when choosing between these 2 sets. Go with the panny
post #2419 of 4421
1. Budget
Up to $1200 +/- couple hundred
2. Seating distance
10-12 ft
3. Size/placement limitations
Looking at 46 to 55 inches but 50 would be best
4. Uses and sources
HDTV on TWC
ps3 (would love if it had a gaming mode for COD)
5. Room lighting
medium light
Trying to decide on the best TV whether it be plasma or LED. I am getting rid of my 42' Philips Ambilight as it is horrible with detail on Call of Duty.

Thank You
I am starting this here, but think I might have to go to the main forum. I am in the market for a new TV as my 40" Samsung is too small for the living room where my wife and I live. I am not sure which direction to go because I have an Anthem D2v that does the majority of my video processing. But, that just means I need a panel that dims well I guess. Here are my specs.

1. Budget
Up to $3k
2. Seating distance
varies, but sweet spot is 9-11 ft
3. Size/placement limitations
Wall mounted, no more than 55" screen.
4. Uses and sources
TV from a Tivo Series 3 is the most common source.
Blu ray from an Oppo BD-83
Sports are important as I am a big hockey fan.
Movies are important as well.
No need to worry about the PQ as the Anthem does that.
I do not game and I care very little about 3D.
5. Room lighting
During the AM hours, we face east, with limited sun obstruction from nearby houses, but largely there is some glare (I have a Samsung matte screen now. I am not sure how a glossy screen will work.)

I was thinking of the Sony XBR-52HX909, Sony KDL-55NX810 or Samsung 55UNC8000. Any thoughts would be appreciated. My worry with the Samsung is that we have a sectional couch and off axis viewing is supposed to be poor. I also don't know that I need an XBR when I have an Anthem to video process. Oh, and the sound is all done through the Anthem as well.

Greetings,

Please help me make a choice

1.) I will mainly use it as a monitor, xbox, watch movies using a computer.
2.) 75% of the time I will be right in front of it browsing the web / doing computer work etc. and 25% of the it will be at least 5ft seating distance.
3.) must be good when displaying texts on websites.

Help me chose between these

Sharp LC-32LE700UN - old model but I read the lag times are good for gaming
Sony KDL32EX710 - decent image quality
Panasonic TC-L37D2 - Im cutting it close here on being too ridiculously big for a monitor

thanks for your inputs
If one were looking for a 55" LCD, 1080p for less than $1,000, which would be the best one to try? Best Buy has the following:

1) Dynex - DX-55L150A11 $799

2) Westinghouse - VR-5585DFZ $799

3) Insignia - NS-L55X-10A $999

4) Toshiba - 55HT1U $999

5) Philips - PFL5505D/F7 $999

Thanks.
Didn't see the Philips, but out of the other four, from a picture-only perspective, I put the Insignia at the top from what I could tell by looking at in the store. It looks acceptable for the needs of the majority of consumers.

If you can afford another $150, you can get the Samsung LN-55C630 from Amazon with free shipping. Its picture is competitive at twice the price point.
Hi everybody,

I could really use some help in narrowing down good options. Here's what I'm looking for:

Budget
~$1500, but could go up if need be
Seating distance
~10 feet
Size/placement limitations
50-55", on top of a media cabinet
Uses
Lots of cable TV viewing (especially sports), Xbox 360, and watching movies from Netflix/HTPC
Sources
Cable box, 360, HTPC, all over HDMI
Room lighting
Very bright during the day; bright overhead light at night.

Other needs
I'd like something that handles 24P properly. Biggest concerns are PQ, gaming performance, and watching sports.

I've been very intrigued by the Vizio XVT553SV, but it seems that it doesn't handle 24P correctly. What else is out there that would work with the above?

Hello Fellow forum readers . I am looking to purchase a LCD/LED TV to replace my 50 inch Plasma .Here are my concerns.

1. Budget: 1k
2. Seating distance: 6-12'
3. Size/placement limitations: None... the closer to 50 inch the better."
4. Uses and sources: USB 2.0 external drives , Gaming , (1080p) ,Blueray, PC Gaming.
5. Room lighting: Generally Well lit.

Thank you in advance
Escape Velocity,

I have pretty much narrowed my choices to:

A. Samsung LN46C630 or 650
B. Samsung LN55C630 or 650

C. Vizio XVT series, either 47 or 55 inches.

My questions:

1. Are any of the Samsungs *not* subject to the panel lottery?
A. Would "SQ01" on the box indicate a lottery win?

2. Am I correct that both Vizios are guaranteed to have the desirable IPS panel?

3. Viewing distance will be about 11 feet, with T.V. set on an articulating bracket to extend it past the opening of my wall unit. Lighting is to the side of the t.v., not reflecting onto it. The t.v. will be for general watching, sports, and movies. No gaming. I don't have a Blu-ray player yet, but probably will get one (possibly a new receiver as well).

Do you have any thoughts as to which of the above (or any other models) would work best for me? I will have the set professionally installed, but ease of use is also a consideration, as I am a novice.

4. I'm also getting a 26 or 32 inch t.v. This one will be largely used for sports watching. Can you recommend any 120 Hz models at those sizes? Matte or semi-matte finish would be a plus on this one.

Thank you very much.

I bought a KDL-52W4100 a couple of years ago and have been very happy with it. Looking to buy another LCD for a different location and would like to be able to get something that is roughly equivalent in terms of PQ. I don't care about Wi-fi or 3D - my hope is to be able to spend a bit less than I did on the last TV by forgoing some of the new features.

Some details on my planned setup:

- Will be sitting 12 feet from TV
- Will use it mainly with HTPC - therefore I don't need the TV to do streaming for me, I can drive that with the PC
- Not using it for gaming or for much in the way of sports (i.e., I'm thinking 120hz should be adequate)
- Will have separate surround sound system (probably Onkyo HT-S3300)
- One thing that I care about is that there not be too much screen glare.

I've been reading on CNET about several models, and hoping someone here can help me sort through the options:

55NX810
52HX800
55EX710
55EX500

I would love to be able to save some money by going for one of the EX models, but I want to verify somehow that the PQ of these will be as good as on my 52W4100.

Thanks for your help . . .
Greetings forum denizens,

I am in the last stages of picking my next TV, and I pretty much have it narrowed down the Sony 810 series or the Vizio 554, at 55" for each. My viewing distance is anywhere from 8 to 12 feet, and since this TV will be replacing a sony KDL-52XBR4 (at 52") that's on its last legs. I'm pretty sure that I'll be happy with 55".

My viewing is split pretty evenly between Bluray (via PS3) HD cable, and gaming on the PS3 and XBox. Throw in a smatterring of SD cable and videos and RC flight sims on the HTPC for good measure.

I'm not primarily interested in 3D (ie 2D picture quality is the driving factor) but if I have it, I'd like it to be usable (which is one of my concerns with the vizio). My other concerns with the 554 are blooming and lag for gaming (which I haven't really seen a definitive answer on).

For the Sony, I'm concerned about the edge-lit panel and artifacts that may come along with that. Additionally, I'm feeling sort of burned by the lack of longevity of my previous Sony unit (long time Sony customer, blah blah). So while the Sony would have been my default choice, I'm looking a little further afield this time around.

So, what say you? Will the Vizio perform well for gaming? Is the 3D so ridden with crosstalk and ghosting that I may as well skip it and get the 553? Does the Sony have enough love around here that I should just swallow the fact that my last unit lived far shorter than I would have preferred?

Finally, are there any other units that should be on my short list? I had eliminated the Samsungs (most likely the 8000) because of the gaming lag, and the Sony 800 because of the lack of local dimming and the fact that I like the styling of the 810 better, but I could be swayed by arguments to the contrary.

Hit me with your wisdom, folks.

TIA,
/alex

Good morning everyone,

I've been lurking around here the past couple of weeks, reading about different topics and TVs. I've learned some things, but I'm stuck like many others on making a final decision on which TV to get.

Netflix is streamed through PS3 or PC, so internet connectivity isn't necessary; I'd much rather spend money on a larger screen. Also, I would prefer an IPS panel, so please take that into consideration.

TVs I've been looking at are the 42" LG LD520 and 42" Panasonic TC-L42U22. I'd really appreciate other recommendations though!

Looking For:
Budget: ~$800
Size: 42" to 46"
Seating Distance: ~10' to 12'
Uses: Netflix and PS3/PC gaming
Lighting: Window perpendicular to TV, but I don't think it will be an issue

Thank you all

We just purchased the Vizio XVT473SV yesterday At Costco and when setting it up realized there was no input selection on drop down menu for coax cable?(HDMI, AV, etc) Called tech service and they got around it but now it's connect as if it has no cable box and just plugged in to wall cable? Cable box has no HDMI output port, just A/V & coax?
