$800 to spend
LED
40" or larger
Glossy Screen
Going to be used for gaming. So the less lag the better and no ghosting. Let's see if this forum can find the tv. I highly doubt it.
I posted this on the 3d forum, but didn't get much of a response so I thought I'd repost here.

I've been doing some research and have narrowed my TV purchase down to 3 different models. The Sony KDL60EX720, the Sharp LC60LE835U and the Samsung PN59D8000.

My main criteria are the size, picture quality and 3D. I'd like to have a matte screen, but it's not a deal breaker (the only matte screen of the 3 is the Sony). All three sets are priced about the same and are roughly the same size. From what I've seen the Sharp looks the best, but the Sony has everything I want as far as the matte screen. All the reviews rave about the Samsung.

Which is why I need advice from you guys. If I were to just go on my observations, I would go with the Sharp, because it looks the best in the store, but I don't know what kind of settings and calibration they've done on the sets there. Basically, which set is the best when they're properly calibrated.

Thanks,
Dan

This thread is fail unless you have 10 million to spend. That will catch somebodies eye.

Just saw this thread, so I moved my post into here...

Guys and Gals,

Just this morning, my wife was sad to find (and I was happy to find) that our 50" Sony LCD projection TV had died. We really liked our KDF-50WE655. It's not the bulb, though, so we are going to get a new tv. I would really like to get your opinion on my options.

I'm looking to get a new set in the 50"-55" range. We watch sports daily, network programming daily, and movies weekly. 2d picture is the most important thing to us. 3d still seems to be lacking content, so 3d is a nice to have, but not required. 1080p is a minimum. Access to amazon VOD and similar services is a plus, but not necessary. We would prefer LCD over plasma due to lower energy costs and heat emitted from the TV. It seems like full LED backlighting is superior to edge lit LED, so we would prefer that but would be open to other options. We would be willing to spend up to $3k, but obviously a lower price is preferred if it does not sacrifice picture quality. We use an external speaker system and receiver, so sound quality does not matter at all. We sit 10'-14' away from the screen. For movies, we turn out the lights. For TV (sports and network programming), we leave the lights on.

I've done some reading online, including on this forum, and so far these sets look good:

VIZIO XVT3D554SV
LG Infinia 55LW9800
Sony BRAVIA XBR55HX929

Any thoughts on which of these sets is best? Have I missed any other sets which may be better? Also, it looks like the Vizio is discontinued. Should we wait a month or two for new models to come out?

Thanks in advance for any advice/guidance you can give!

I'm looking for a 37"-42" tv for the bedroom around a 5-6' viewing. I'm looking for a min. 120hz refresh rate and priced around $500.00. I'd also like to get led/lcd model in a brand name i.e. samsung, lg, panasonic, etc. The closest to match my specs. was a panny tc-l42e3, lg 42lk520 and a sammy ln40d550. These were all just a tad more than the 500 range. Maybe wait until black friday? My tv has been out for 3 weeks and it's getting old =-(. Thanks for any input.....

You are in luck this week:
I see this model LN40D550 is onsale at a bargain price this week at both Best Buy and Target in their ads: only $499, in the price range of the 32" model in this series for this sale.

Hey guys,

new user here.

My parents want to buy a TV, either 60" or 65". Nothing crazy on this television - in fact it's mostly Indian television that isn't in HD, and a Blu Ray would be played once in a blue moon. Every so often, I'll watch a game on it, but not regularly. The point is, they don't need the best TV, but also don't want anything that will be obsolete soon. Netflix functionality would be cool. I can picture them paying for Netflix to watch Bollywood movies. They haven't considered it because they're not in touch with the technology world.

There are glare issues in the room thanks to two huge windows.

I think up to $2500 would be considered.
Looking for a 42-46"
Definitely want LED backlit
Can handle deep blacks
Dont care about 3D
Speakers/SQ are not a factor (will be connected to surround sound system)
Wi-fi would be nice, but not necessary
Will be primarily used for gaming
$600-$850 price range
Would love 240hz, but I know thats a stretch for the price...

Any suggestions?

OK, I've been trying to do my research and it can be mind bending sifting through everything on here. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the following:

Vizio XVT3D650SV
Sharp LC-70LE735U

Just looking for some basic pros and cons other than the cost/screen size and cost of active vs. passive 3D.

The screen size isn't too big an issue. Just want to know if everyone thinks. I will consider other models too.

Thanks!

TY, but the 37-42" models are much more. And I found out that it's only 60hz. I did buy a Westinghouse 42", 120 hz and 1080P. I took it out of the box yesterday and I'll be boxing it back up today or tomorrow. The pic. is mediocre there are a few (factory scratches???) on the benzel and the sound is beyond horrible. I know these are thin tv's and the sound isn't that great, but this thing is a joke. It's for my bedroom, so know surround sound. My daughter, wife and I all thought it was terrible. Anywhew my search continues as time draws closer to black friday....... Oh and 42" is too big, my viewing distance is approx. 4-5'. Going to look at the 37" and 40"...

Are the Sharp LC46LE620 a good option for Xbox gaming?

$700~$800
Seating distance: 10 feet.
Room lighting: Not too much.

Or there's another good option between the LED's in $800?

It's noticiable the difference (in these Sharp) between 1.000.000:1 and 3.000.000:1?

I want a crisp image quality with movement especially for First person shooter.
With a 4ms I'm Ok.

It's noticiable the difference between 1.000.000:1 and 3.000.000:1?

Thanks!

And sorry for the bad english!

I've been sidetracked by life last few years and haven't really kept up with the AV scene. I'm looking for something between 50 and 60 inches. So am wondering what you guys think are some of the best LCD's out there under $4,000 atm.

What will be the LCD tv to look for when the deals are reviled?

I'm trying to go 3D with my new Samsung BD-6700 Blu-ray player. I really need a great TV.

I'm thinking specs should be 3D, 240Hz, 55 in. - 60 in., and I really like Samsung TV?

Should I get the LCD or LCD-LED?

You will have to help me get ready for this purchase.

I guess you haven't been reading the posts that say Black Friday deals are all they're cracked up to be. Most of the Black Friday deals are for lower priced TVs that are basically being dumped at close-out prices and/or stripped-down models specially created with fewer features to make unsuspecting customers get less than what they are bargaining for. Black Friday is just marketing hype. If you want a great TV, go ahead and wait for Black Friday if you want to... just don't expect to get a great deal on one.

Wow, really?

I have been reading a little of the opposite.

OK, I read the article also and I think you're seeing something that's not there. I never said "big" TVs wouldn't be available; however, your odds of finding a great price on a Sony 420, 523, or even 720 is much more likely than getting a great deal on an 820 or 929. The same holds true of similar models from other manufacturers. I'll stick with my prediction: If you think you're going to find a top of the line local dimming TV at a huge discount on Black Friday, good luck 'cause I'm guessing it ain't gonna happen. For your sake and everyone else out there, I hope I'm wrong.

My first HDTV purchase will most likely be the UN46D6000. Everything I have read sounds great and some things are manageable, like the "flashlights" that keep being mentioned (my PC monitor does it as well).

Now, is there a better LED under $1k (the 46D6000 is $929.20) at that size and in that price range?

If you can recommend a 46" 1080p LCD television in that same price range that's superb, I'll look into that as well.
I decided to get a Samsung PN59D7000 Plasma. I hope it turns out because I'm picking it up today.
In the market for a 46" LCD. I don't play games, just watch all type of programs from Dish, OTA, BR player and MKV via WD Live TV. Budget will be $1400 and below. Don't care for 3D but understand that the 3D models will probably have better IQ. I have been looking at the Samsung UN46D7000 and Sony KDL46HX820. Also, the lower models like the Samsung UN46D6000/6300 and Sony KDL46EX720 / NX720.

Can't decide what to get. There are some good deals now but not sure if I should wait till BF or not.

Right on the money imho, if someone is looking more base or mid-level model deals, then Black Friday is a decent sale event. Heck Sharp took advantage of BF this year by contracting watered down 42" sets from a plant in China ($200 at BB on BF).

Otherwise, for the more expensive/best quality sets, your best deals by far will be during model liquidation/refresh time (the lower end models are reduced nicely as well during this time).

Model liquidation for most MFR's seem to happen in late winter or spring, though i've seen it happen in summer, and i think Toshiba had theirs just a month or two ago. All of this is subject to change so it's hard figuring out trends here.

Hello all, I am in the market for a 32" LED/LCD HDTV that will primarily be used for video gaming. I want to replace a Panasonic Viera 22" 60hz 720p LCD TV that I bought last year.

My criteria are as follows:

- It MUST be no bigger than 32" due to space limitations.
- It must natively support 1080p resolution (so no 720p models, please)
- It MUST have an IPS panel; this a big deal for me in regards to input lag
- It MUST have very little to no input lag; I can live with a few frames, no more than 2 FPS lag, though
- It can be LED or LCD display, since plasmas don't come smaller than 40"
- My budget for this will be up to <$500; I can't honestly spend more than that
- It must be pretty decent as a PC monitor, but this would not be a deal-breaker for me if it wasn't
- Any good deals that fit this criterion for Black Friday?

Your answer(s) are in the other sticky thread, Input Lag wars, i forget the model numbers but LG has two models, and Panasonic has two models that roughly fit your criteria. Unfortunately with the smaller LG's there's a serious panel lottery where people are having a lot of trouble finding the IPS version. I know with the xxLK450 model you'll want to see a "Y" on the box sku which denotes an IPS panel, whereas a "D" denotes a VA panel. On the other hand with Panasonic there are no panel lotteries so you know you're getting the IPS panel type advertised on their website.

Pretty sure Pansonic has an LED and CCFL version of what you're looking for. The CCFL version may have a more uniform backlight so don't cross it off your list just yet.

Unfortunately you'll have to sift through the last 15 pages of that thread to dig up the 3 or 4 models i'm talking about.

Hopefully i've armed you with enough info to jump start your research to decide before Black Friday.

Good luck.

Hi all. I'm looking for a 60" LCD TV.
Decision factors:
- Must be a matte screen (lots of windows in the room)
- Price range: under $1500
- LED isn't a requirement. It's nice, but at 60" the price gap is probably not worth it.
- Won't be used for gaming of any kind (though will hook up to laptop to watch movies sometimes)
I figure that 60" plus matte screen should limit my options, but I don't really know what's out there, so just a list of the available models would be a help. Also, any advice is very welcome.

I have about 10 days left with my 47lw5600, but i am seriously looking at the nx720 for better screen and also better video processor.

What do you guys think?

Your help will be greatly appreciated
Hi guys, I'm looking for a TV with the following constraints:

Price range: 800 Euros max (approx. 1050 USD)

Purpose: Gaming and Movies.

Size: 40 or 42 inches. (So only LCD/LEDs). Dunno if there are any Plasmas worth getting at 42 inches or if it makes for good gaming TVs.

Requirements:
- Prefer low input lag, I can deal with about 30 - 40ms. Not a super hardcore gamer but still acceptable input lag please.
- High contrast levels, black levels are important since I'll be using a PS3 and not xbox and I don't want gray instead of black.
- 100 (EU) or 120 Hz (US) native LCD, don't want 50/60Hz. Any additional improvements like MotionFlow etc. to improve the rate is welcome too (for movie/soccer sports mode). I'm actually a little confused about the 50 vs. 100Hz. to be honest, but I definitely want games to play with maximum FPS possible.

I'll be using the TV in a moderately light environment, not fully dark but definitely not bright. Thought I have many windows, I'll be fine pulling down the shutters/shades when I game.

PS. Since I live in Europe, I will try my best to find the European models for any US models suggested.

I looked at getting a Toshiba Regza ZV 635 (can't post URL to it but find it on amazon.de) but I read a review that is has very bad black-levels and not a good display overall but it's one of the best in terms of input lag. So I don't think I'll get this one. Picture quality is important.

Any other suggestions?

EDIT: For those who might have similar requirements as mine. The TV i've homed in on so far is the Sony EX720/EX725 LCD/LED TV.
SO, I was looking through some of the posts bc I had a question myself but I noticed everyone just says I have x,y,z parameters, pick me a TV over and over and I don't know that anyone gets any real info this thread on a consistent basis.

What if we (as a group) rate sets as they arrive and create a database with all the TV specs and user ratings. I know this exists elsewhere but people come here for support and justifiably so. We can have MSRP price point, and then breakdown into sub categories like display type, then brand, etc. and rankings within those points. This creates more of a usable database for all (including the newbies) to utilize. With the huge number of videophiles on here I think we can create a great utility for everyone. We can then once and for all eliminate the help me choose a set, LCD or plasma, etc.

Any thoughts?
