Looking for an LG potentially 47" being the biggest size, my current LG 55 lh90 is not an edge lit led and has 240 hz. I don't want to step down with this tv...

1. Budget: below $1800
2. Seating distance: 7-15 feet
3. Size/placement limitations: this will be above a fireplace roughly 6' off the ground or so
4. Uses and sources: I. Living room, will have a mount that moves so that there are other viewing angles, general tv and video for a sitting room. Main media room in another room with full surround so this is just a show piece. Does not need to be 3d, slim bezel so that it has. Clean look / mainly direct tv
5. Room lighting: vaulted ceilings and 3 windows on each side so it's pretty bright

Is a 300$ or less, 32" LCD HDTV from a decent brand in the next couple months possible? Or am I too optimistic?

At the moment there isn't much, I've seen some 32" tvs for <300$ but always from brands that I don't know if I can trust... Haier, Dynex, Insignia, etc...

Do TV prices tend to drop over a period of a few months?
Can I expect sales for father's day?

Btw, I'm in Canada.

I think the frequency of answers has really fallen, but there are still some helpful folks trying to help. Please try to see it from their perspective.

Once you are looking for a TV or have purchased a TV, regardless of how "expert" you are, you only know about the comparable models to the TV you bought. Not everyone who bought an Elite would know the best 46" Plasma to be bought for under $1200. So the pool of "experts" is really not that large as one may want to believe. Far from being an expert myself, I just dive in more frequently into the rest of the threads and try to make some sense out of it all based on multiple user inputs.

I do think that regular visitors to the site should scan this thread more frequently and contribute to posts which are closer to the TV models they know more about. I know I'm going to try to chime in for 60"-70" TV buying decisions cuz that's around where I'm targeting my next purchase.

I do hope you get good answers to your questions, and in turn you stay a while to help someone else. That's the only thing that will make this a useful thread.

great budget.. you'll definitely get what you want at this price.

Check the LG line.. there are some very nice 55" models which do superb 3D. Because you won't be doing critical movie viewing, the 3D and latest app features would really shine. Plus, their new lineups are really thin and look extremely cool!

Also look at the Samsung EH6000, EH61000 and EH65000 lineup. The first two are quasi-budget lineup, don't think they have 3D, the EH6500 line does have 3D.

Just something to kick-start your research..

I'm adding a public response to help others who may have a similar need.

You should also look at the LG LM7600

1. Under 2000 (2k is the tippy top of what I am willing to pay)
2. 10'
3. 55" Max.
4. Use much like a monitor.
5. overhead light, can and will be daylit at times. Mostly night time viewing.


I am looking for a TV. Nothing else. I want a good looking tv, I don't give a crap about widgets or network connectivity or any of that. I have a HTPC, and I want a VGA port on what ever tv you can recommend. I dont care at all about 3d, and I would probably just buy the UN55EH6000, but its only got 2 HDMI on it, I would prefer 4 or more if possible. The last thing the tv must have is buttons on it. Minimally, a power button. I will not buy a tv that cannot be at least turned off sans remote.

1. $600 - $800. Preferably close to $600, obviously.

2. 3' - 8'

The TV will actually be mounted on the wll right next to my computer desk. I will attempt to play some games on it, but if I'm too close I'll just use my monitor. Either way, I'll typically be watching TV and playing console games from across the room.

3. I'd prefer a 40'' TV. 42'' would be a tight fit, but I think 40'' would be "just right."

4. For TV, internet (netflix/etc.), and gaming

5. I would be mostly using it in the dark. It will be facing windows, but I have very dark curtains that block pretty much all incoming light.

I've been doing research and I'm noticing that a lot of the "important" factors aren't ever listed. I've read that full array is better than edge-lit, and that local dimming is really valuable, but there is no handy "full array" checkbox on Amazon, sadly. I've read that input lag can be a problem with gaming, and is related to the higher frequency TVs, but (again) there is no comprehensive way to figure this stuff out.

Simply filtering the highest-rated/most popular LED TVs in my size range on Amazon gets me results like the Samsung UN40EH500 and the Panasonic-VIERA-TC-L42E50, but it's difficult to filter through all of the results.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am planning to purchase a 55" 3D HDTV in the near future and have short listed the following two options:

1) Samsung ES6500 (the 6-series one with micro dimming - its called ES6800 here)
2) LG LM7600

I have been reading reviews over the internet and am totally confused with which on to go for. My primary requirments are:

1) Blacks as deep as possible
2) Will be used for TV (SD+HD), Movies, Sports & rarely Games.
3) TV will be used with room lights on, only sometimes the lights will be dim/off.
4) 3D - though I'll only use it sometimes and probably for small durations.
5) Viewing distance is not a concern since 55" suits my needs perfectly.
6) Budget circa $2,500 (I live in Dubai, UAE so this is jsut an estimate)

Please can someone provide some insight on which set is better for my requirements? Perhaps there may be a better option?

P.S. Another option would be the Panasonic ST50, however, 55" is not available here - only 50" & 65".

I believe you have already read the threads for the relevant models. What is the source of confusion?


While it's not your top requirement, I would suggest finding a way to see the active vs passive 3D to see how your eyes and brain adjust to it. Most people prefer one over the other and it's all good depending on what your eyes/brain combination prefers. Real trouble only begins when husbands prefer one and the spouse goes for the other!

I'd lean towards the ES6500 line for your needs.. but again, do check out the active / passive 3D to find out if you have a particular preference.

I'm trying to decide between two televisions.

Upgrading a Philips 47PFL6704.

Don't really care about 3D. Room lightness is not an issue. Screen will be hooked up to my HTPC and used for HD television and BluRays. Not much sports.

I'm also wondering if any of these two are a good choice: Toshiba 40E220U or Panasonic TC-L37U3

But the general user feedback on the EH6000 line is positive. If sports isn't what you want then the LED-lit Samsung would definitely be a better choice as a monitor.

Alright guys, I am having a hard time pulling the trigger on a tv set. Basically still would like to see some reviews or opinions on a few tvs before I do.

My usage is:
-Movies 40%
-SD TV/some HD 30% (Mainly sports)
-Gaming 30%

I would like 3d for the wow factor and to watch the occasional title in 3d instead of going to the movies and paying $30+ for two people. I might as well buy it and keep it forever in that case. I am going to take a look at active vs passive

I also want low input lag for gaming, and decent blacks (I think i can live with the ips panel blacks). I wouldn't say am a videophile. I am coming from a 21" crt panasonic from when "flat screens" got popular.

TV's I am looking at: Budget $1200 (max) and 47" seems to be my sweet spot for size. 55" won't happen on my budget. Seating distance is anywhere from 6'-10'.
LG LM7600 (has great blacks for ips, but I am worried about input lag)
Panasonic 47" st50 (plasma I know)
Panasonic 47" ET5 (bad blacks but has everything else)
Toshiba 47 L6200u (no reviews, need input lag results)

The only device that will be connected to TV is my PC (trough HDMI). I will be using my TV only for watching movies and series. I will not watch sports, won't play games or to be more exact i will not connect my TV with cable TV or inernet TV.

I will mainly be watching HD material (Full Blu-Rays, 1080p encodes). I watch SD material (DVD9 sources) only when series/movies don't exist in HD.

I would say "almost dark". There is no bias lighting.

- Very important to me is 1080p/24 or 24p compatibility!
- Best PQ possiable.
- Preferably i would like to have LCD Full LED (if possible).

- Since i'm from Europe i can't use and don't need "Internet streaming services" like Netflix and Hulu.

So far I'm leaning towards a Sharp Aquos but not settled on it and also not sure which specific model is best. Also trying to decide on whether to go with 70 or 80 inch as with whatever money is left over I'm looking for a Surround Sound setup and not really sure how to plan how much that will cost. I'm leaning towards spening more and getting the best TV first and just save and buy my audio equipment later.

So i've been driving myself nuts trying to pick the correct TV, hopefully I can get some help.

Which models have better PQ D6xxx or ES6xxx or EH6xxx? I would like to buy 55inch TV and there is a big money difference.

My parents need help finding a TV for their living room and I'm not the right person to recommend a set to them. I was hoping to get some advice here.

Just really basic stuff, cable and movies. They just need something that hopefully would have internet apps built in - Netflix and Skype (webcam included would be nice too) are the most important. And of course, great picture quality. Nothing more than those 2 general aspects, though.

5. Room lighting

It can get quite dark, there isn't much glare on the TV. The living room windows do a great job of blocking outside light, and the sun doesn't even face the room in a way that would interfere with the picture.

Basically, something that has great picture quality, internet apps + webcam (or built in webcam for an additional price), for 1500-2000. 55" would be great.

I'm looking to get my first flat panel TV, big upgrade from my eight year old CRT.

Around US/CAD $1,000-$1,200

Approx 8-9 feet

I'm looking to get 46-47 incher, but can go even 55 inch if price/requirements falls within budget.

4. Uses and sources
Will be used mainly to watch 720p/1080p movies (blu-ray and encoded files), playing PS3/X360/PS2 games, and watching occasional SD cable programing and DVD movies. I would prefer a TV with a minimum of 3 HDMI ports and 1 component port. 1080p/24 compatibility is good to have as well. Low Input lag would be nice to have (gaming mode?) but if it's not a lag fest it should do.

It will be around 70% HD and 30% SD.

5. Room lighting
No direct sunlight but fairly bright, even with curtains.

I don't really care about Internet connectivity or built-in WIFI.

Passive 3D might be nice but isn't required as well. I'm mainly looking for is good picture quality, reliability, and a decent sound quality from built-in speakers as I don't have any sound system, at least not for this year.

Making the move from DLP... It's time. Space is limited, I have 42" of width to work with so I'm capped at 46" or 47" with a thin bezel. Been looking at a 46" DLP for 5 years, so a 42" is going to annoy me from a size persepctive so Plasma is out. Been chewing on a few and need some pros and cons. Flashlighting and motion artifacts are going to annoy the hell out of me. I prefer passive 3D, but its a bonus feature not a requirement. Apps don't really matter, but internet connetivity for updates does.

With that in mind....Please provide pro's and con's:

As a baseline for what I’m looking for, my Father-in-law has a Sammy UN46D7000 46” and I found it to be stunning picture wise when I saw it last month, except for the flash lighting. We watch a lot of 2.35 to 2.40 movies in the dark and a lot of football on Sunday.

Budget not an issue, but high price doesn't always = quality.

Side note, our Best Buy lost their Magnolia rep so getting a good view in the store in my area is now next to impossible. Bunch of washed out pictures hanging on the walls. Just horrible.

A second unit is also needed for the bedroom. Need a 42-46" with image similar to Samsung UN46D7000. 3D is not needed, but I do want a very clean image. Budget is a bit of an issue, want to keep it under $800 but $1K is okay. Descent sound would also be a plus (yeah, I lknow - good luck!).

Trying to decide between Samsung ES8000 or Panasonic WT50 in 55". TV is going in a pretty well lit room. The TV will be used for gaming, movies and just watching cable. Thanks.

I currently have a Samsung LN52B750. It is 52" 240Hz has great picture and has served us well for 3 years. We are looking to upgrade to a 60" LCD as the room it is going into has a fair amount of ambient light. I would like to keep it true 240Hz but many seem to be 120Hz and play a silly marketing game now that say it "looks like 240". I dont know if it matters? Do the new 120Hz TV's with this new tech replace the need for true 240Hz?

5. Room lighting: minimal overhead lighting, plus 2 windows
NOTE: This TV must have decent speakers as there will be no accompanying HT system.

Living Room TV:
1. Budget: $1650
2. Seating distance: 8-12 feet
3. Size/placement limitations: Will be wall-mounted approximately 5 feet off the ground; should accommodate up to 55" diagonal LED/LCD HDTV
4. Uses and sources: Main location for TV viewing; Cable via HD DVR, Bluray, PS3, etc
5. Room lighting: minimal overhead lighting, plus 4 windows; fairly significant quantity of light during the day
NOTE: This TV will have a decent HT system for sound.

3D doesn't appeal much to us at the moment, but we'll take it if we can get it. But, if a higher-quality picture can be had for the same price-point, we would go with that.
