I'm debating between 720p and 1080p. Since most games are 720p on the PS3 I'm not sure if I need a 1080p TV. I think I can live with 720p for web surfing also. For movies I'll be sitting 7-8ft away so I'm not sure if it's worth for $200 extra for a 1080p TV.

Really been looking at the LG and Sharp, Sharp is 5 inches bigger but the LG has gotten slightly better PQ reviews.

We have a new Player LC-60E88UN this looks really promising!

Lighting: West facing apartment in midwest, one large window with shades and entry door with a unshaded window above. Room isn't overly bright until summer evenings, but that's when TV will be used most.

I have been looking at, Samsung LHxxC630, Toshiba Regza xxXV648U, and Sony EX-500 series. The Regzas are really hard to find for some reason, and seem more $$ than the Samsung.

750p is fine since my Dad doesn't watch movies and wants around 3-40 inches tops. Since he watches sports, wanted some more Hz than 60 if you know what I mean.

Please suggest options and provide links. And thank you for doing the research previously and saving me the headache.

I apologize if this has been asked - I've skimmed through as much of this thread and the vizio thread as I could bear.

I'm very seriously considering the Vizio SV472XVT. But I know about the Vizio pop of death and better quality being available elsewhere. However, this tv offers incredible bang for the buck, which is what interests me. I can purchase the extended warranty for peace of mind.

I can't find this television in any local brick and mortars to judge its quality for myself. So, based on what some of you know, would you bite if you were me?

And second part to this - any recommended extended warranties? (the website I intend to use does not have the option)

If you buy the Vizio at Costco and use an amex card, you'll get a three year in home warranty included.

I've had my xvt472 fro 3 months and love it. Don't know how pervasive pop of death is. PQ is very good for any price, and outstanding for what is charged.

*edit* Don't expect much from viewing at costco, all sets look pretty bad including this one. Maybe Sam's?

Thanks for the reply. Local costco doesn't have one on display, but the tvs that were on display were not set up to be very flattering.

You got that right. All their stores are like that. They'd probably sell more TV's if they weren't turned on. I went in to buy an ex701 but ended up with the Vizio because of back-lit local dimming, even though at the store it looked kinda crappy.

On another note, the 3xvt series Vizios are due out 7/1. Once they are in the supply chain, expect the 2xvt models to go on coupon (costco lingo for sale, since they don;t have sales...)

Where can I find information about the 3xvt series? A google search turns up this forum.

Looking for the best TV for 750 or less. This is for a friend who wants an LCD TV.

1. Budget: Any below $1500 [cheaper = better, but I'm not skimping on a set this time around]

Note: Due to my cablevision cable box only outputting a Dolby Digital signal when using HDMI, and the fact that my reciever [which has done nothing beside decode said signal] recently died due to overheating, I'd prefer a TV with built-in Dolby Decoding, just to cut down on the clutter. I have NO interest in a 7.1 speaker setup, do I'd prefer to not have to get a reciever just to decode DD audio comming from my Cable Box.

And for obvious reasons (PC input), only 1080p TV's need apply.

Finally, low input lag is a MUST. I play enough semi-competitive games to know this can be (and for some people, is) a factor.

I've been looking at the LG LE5300 and LG LE5400 (120Hz TrueMotion) series of TV's, as they meet most of my requirements. I've looked at the Samsung UN32c6000 (among others), and haven't been as impressed, though if anyone has any differing opinions, I'm all ears.

I am looking for somtihng similiar to your specs. Currently I have a LG 47LB5D and looking to move up to a 55-60"
Looked at the LG 55LH90 and the Sharp Aquios LC60LE810. I kinda at bias towards the FLat panel and piano black cabinet. If the sharp has this I would have probrably jumped on it........ Chickened out

My chair is also 13 Feet from the TV. Same Uses except no PC at this time.

Thing is, their ratings are based on weighting expert and consumer ratings. While either could have bias, high confidence level in consumer rating bias.

Any help please?

1. Budget. 1000. The less, the better... I mean, money counts, if I can shave 50 or 100 from the final price, that'll be much appreciated although I don't want to get a noticeable worse panel just for saving 100

2. Size 40''. I'm upgrading a 37'' piece but 42'' will probably get over my budget very fast and I see less choices.

3. Quite a lot of gaming, but I'm blind to gaming lag. Seriously, I've gamed for a long time on 2 different Samsung sets that were supposed to suffer badly from lag but haven't noticed it, so it's probably not an issue. BD movies, but lots of of SD sources too. HD tuner is a must, as I get several freeview HD channels (Fifa World Cup starting on friday, yikes!)

4. 100Hz is a must too. Unlike gaming lag, I'm sensitive to motion blur and my 2 year old Samsung 5 series is quite a pain in that regard... one of the reasons I'm upgrading.

5. I'm very partial to LED sets... perhaps it's just the marketing, but when I get to see them in the shop, I always seem to find the image much more pleasing when it's a LED set. Plus the slim form factor certainly helps.

I've been looking around at the two cheapest dealears I know of and trimmed it to those models:

Redcoon seems to have better prices in some models, but the other, Pixmania, is quite close to my place so I save shipping costs.

That's the best I can do... specs wise they all seem to fit the bill, but I really don't know much about the diferrent technologies nor comparative image quality and I don't find many specific reviews from those sets.

I'm looking for 2 LCDs, one for the kitchen and one as a main living room entertainment center.

First the kitchen
1. Budget: ~$200, give or take a little
2. Seating distance: It's for the kitchen!
3. Size/Placement: I figure 22" is about right. Don't plan on mounting it, just a typical pedestal would be fine
4. Usage: For the wife while she is cooking. Nothing fancy, I'll probably hook up a Comcast digital adapter to it so it might not even have an HD signal on it most of the time. I will use it occasionally as a gaming monitor to bring over to a friend's house so 1080p would be preferred, but not absolutely necessary. HDMI is a must though.
5. Room lighting: kitchen light? I don't think this matters too much.

I'm very interested in the Vizio LED Razor LCDs, anyone have any good experience with those? I read some reviews and they seem ok for what I'm looking for and right about my price range too. I'm ok with some off brands for this set too, as long as it doesn't have reliability issues.

Living Room
1. Budget ~$1500. If the TV is total kick ass, I might consider going a few hundred more, but I'd like to stay close to $1500.
2. Seating distance: 8-10ft.
3. Size/Placement: 55" would be great, but 52" would work too. Don't plan on mounting it on the wall right now, but maybe I will in future, for now it will just stand on a TV stand
4. Usage: Movies (DVD and Bluray), video games (ps3, xbox360, wii), HDTV cablebox, HTPC. 1080p and 120Hz is a must, but I'm a little ambivalent on 240Hz, I wonder if it's really necessary. LED backlight is preferred, mainly for longevity of the TV. I can probably tolerate less than stellar black levels more than the typical AVSforum junkie seeing how I've lived with my 2005 Sharp Aquos with "poor by today's standards" black levels for 5 years now.
5. Room lighting: Will be pretty dark most of the time, no direct sunlight through the windows. Room has dimable recessed lighting.

I've only owned Sharp LCDs in the past but recent Sharp sets don't seem to have gotten stellar reviews so I'm open to trying other brands, namely Samsung, LG, Toshiba. I am staying away from Sony for the most part because I think their price to performance ratio is too high.

I'll try to keep this simple. My old TV finally died and I'm aiming to get a Sony Bravia to replace it. It will be used for gaming (360, PS3, Wii), television, and Blu-Rays. I'll probably look into getting a home theater system too further down the road. My budget is $2000, are any of the current Bravia models acceptable for all of these things?

I just got wife approval to replace our Sony 60" XBR1. I want a flat panel for above the fireplace (which we don't use).

I would prefer 65" so I don't feel like I"m downgrading or moving laterally. I just want something that at least matches the shadow detail and black level of my xbr1, but is a bit clearer.

My primary use is gaming/blu rays/sports.

I don't mind waiting a bit, but the longer I wait the more likely the wife takes approval away.

my old Westinghouse tx-42f430s died today and I am in urgent need of a good, reasonably priced 46-47" 1080P 120Hz (LED if possible, if they are good?) LCD TV.

What does the collective here suggest?

1. Budget: Around $1000-1100 (CAD / US 1000 I guess)
2. Seating distance: 9-12 ft ( Process of finding new place , apartment though so wont be too big.
3. Size/placement limitations: 46-50" screen
4. Uses and sources: HDTV / PS3 - GAMING / MAYBE SOME HTPC
5. Room lighting: Could be somewhat bright

I was looking at the LG pk550 plasma but seems like it has input lag and the screen wouldn't do great for bright rooms.

Now I'm leaning towards an LCD but I want to make sure I'm getting a good screen that is ok for gaming and won't be bad in a brighter room.

So anyone have some suggestions for a good 1080p 46"-50" that is suitable for gaming?

have you heard anything about the LG pk750 plasma and input lag? I have one on the way and was planning to sell it for a less expensive model. But unfortunately, I can't seem to find much of a tv for less than $800 or so.

What I am most worried about is input lag while gaming (My son and I play PS3 a lot) while sustaining a good/great quality PQ and decent feature list. I do not mind glossy or matte. I have a 32" Aquos and beside the red push I like the set. I also need a built in HDTV tuner.

Looking for recommendations on my first LCD. Here are my considerations:

- probably 55-inch class, maybe 52, strongly prefer a matte finish

- it will be on a somewhat high surface (around 40-42 inches I believe), so if this is a problem, I wonder what a solution would be. Are any of them able to tilt slightly downwards on their stands?

- looking to spend around $1500, but I'd pay more if it got me something significantly better.

- I don't care about thickness. It will be sitting on its stand; it won't be mounted on the wall, so I'm not willing to pay more for a thin TV. I'd rather put extra money into a better picture.

- after reading this forum exhaustively, I've concluded that full-backlit/local-dimming LEDs are the best picture, but are also obviously more expensive. I realize that $1500 is probably not compatible with this format.

- edge-lit LEDs seem to be a feature found on TVs that are going for a thinner display. these seem to be the worst for my considerations.

- not opposed to standard a CCFL set, since I don't care about thickness, and it would probably be cheaper.

- I watch a lot baseball and football, so I definitely want a set that will not produce jerky, choppy motion.

- Not sure about on-board services. Seems like built-in Netflix on some of these units is not very good, and that a separate device is advisable. Thoughts?

Contemplating buying my second LCD. Got a 40-inch Sony like 4-5 years ago. Amazing how much I paid for so little back then (it was only 1080i too!!!!).

Possibly going to choose between the KDL-55HX800 and KDL-60EX700. But I'm not sure about getting a 3D TV this early in the game. Someone mentioned video game lag for the KDL-60EX700 but I haven't been able to confirm it with a second source.
