Since I apparently don't get any help from AV Forum, might as well try here. (I'm a swede)

Help me choose between there two TVs:
(names may differ in US)
Philips 40PFL5605
Philips 42PFL8404

It'll be used for gaming on my Xbox 360 and movies.
Same price, so no problem there.

Grateful for answer

5605 will be better because of the new LED backlighting. It is of course not withlocal dimming at this pricepoint but still definitely a improvement from CCFL.

So I'm looking for a nice 32 inch LCD tv mainly for gaming. My biggest concern though is that I want the black levels to be really good. Should I be aiming for an LED tv? Also I want a tv with good scaling as I'll be playing a fair amount of Ps2/Wii games on it (with component cables for both). I remember reading a couple years back that Samsung had released an LCD line that excelled at this surprisingly well. Has this carried over to their new tvs?

The main tv I'm looking at is the UN32C6500. Price really isn't an issue for me, so is this the best I can get or is there better?

Hello all,

Looking for either an LCD or LED.

Budgeting around 1000-1300.

Have 12 or so feet from tv to seating.

Will be using it for gaming, movies and lots of sports.

Preferably would like to buy from Bestbuy or Costco due to their DirecTV+HDTV deal for new buyers.

Any ideas would be great!

Hey there ,
So I recently bought my first HDTV ( Sony Bravio 32inch ex500 ) for the main purpose of gaming , but after experiencing input lag and reading about others having the same problem im thinking about switching over.

I bought this TV for the total price of 730 ( with tax ) from bestbuy , now my first question is does anyone know how the return policy works with bestbuy? If I return my tv back within a certain about of days will i receive my money back?

Now my second question ( why i made this topic ) is whats the best 32inch LCD hdtv for gaming I can buy out there? and if possible let it be a TV bestbuy carries so ill be able to switch my bravio with it ( yes i read the previous topics on this but coudnt find one where bestbuy carried it )

my son broke my 26" Sharp TV yesterday so now i have to buy a new one. not looking for anything too expensive.

any opinion on the brand X TV's like Apex and Dynex? i'm happy with my Sharp's picture quality so i don't care if it's not the best that it can be. any big difference between the 60Hz screens compared to 120Hz?

and what is everyone's opinion on buying an internet connected TV vs a cheaper one and a separate Blu ray player or PS3?
i was wondering if the sony 52HX900 will be any good cause i just find out that sharp has a led with local dimming called LC52LE700 and the price is very good... and as i don't wan't 3d maybe it could be the tv i need. does somebody know if the sharp is glossy or mate?

I will soon have 4k to spend on a new tv. Only bad thing is it must be used at Conns. My next purchase, since my current set is going downhill fast, must be financed and Conns was the only willing shop to do so.
Scanning through the sets on the website (not sure if they have anything different in store) I cant seem to make up my mind.

--I will use this set mainly for movies(blu-ray) and games(ps3) with minimal tv watching (only sports)
--This set will be placed in my living room with a viewing distance of maybe 9-10ft
--There are three windows in the room, one in which direct sunlight will reach the tv if the blinds and curtains are open
--I'd like to be able to mount the television, but its not a must have(I've used a Rear Projection for 3 years now)
--3D is not a must but it would be an interesting thing to have
--The Bigger the better

(here is a basic Floor Plan of the living room layout with the furniture, speaker placement, location of windows, etc, if it help the decision)

Need help choosing which 46" Sony Bravia TV to get..

EX500
EX700
NX800
Z5100
HX909, worth $3500!?

I'm open to all of these. It seems like the EX500 is the absolute best value, but I've read the Z5100 has the most superior PQ of the first 4 on the list. I am willing to "pay to play" but don't want to spend a premium just to have the latest technology (eg HX909).

Can someone confirm and give cliff note reviews of how these models compare?
Thank you

- Full HD, 25 fps, 1080i and 1080p (real full HD)
- 50hz and 60hz
- Pixel mapping 1:1 over HDMI (1.3)
- Around 26"
- Around the price of $518

It's supposed to be used with the Matrox MXO2 mini breakout box for editing.

i was inquiring pretty much the same thing but about the c6300 vs. the b6000? I guess the "B" is 2009 and the "C" is 2010? can anyone confirm that? And is the LED worth the extra money vs. the LCD?

Thanks in advance.

Walmart has both of these with a price difference of $19. Wanted to get some advice on which one has an edge over the other. At the price, I don't mind going for either one. Comments or suggestions? Thanks!

Vizio 37" E370VL --> $498

Too long didn't read version at the bottom.

I'm going to get a new TV soon. It will be exclusively for gaming, since I rarely watch TV or movies (like 3 times a year or something like that). I will use my Xbox 360 and PS3 there with an HDMI cable. Also my Wii, but I don't care about graphics with that one.

The problem? I'm incredibly ignorant when it comes to TVs. For me, they were all the same. I don't really care whether it is a Plasma or an LCD, I just want one to play with so if you feel like a Plasma may be better for me, feel free to recommend it to me.

I want a 35"-40" TV. I'm not looking to get a particular model or brand, but I want to know which things I should mainly look out for and how to know if they will be good for my needs.

Input lag, refresh rate, resolution (I hear 720p is good enough for console gaming). Those are the things I need to know. I don't know what else there is to be known.

I mainly play:
-Shooters (Gears of War, Battlefield)
-Action games (Ninja Gaiden 2, Bayonetta)
- Action/adventure (Assassin's Creed)

And never touch music games nor fighting games. I hope that helps.

1. Budget

Roughly $600-800. Take it with a grain of salt though, since I'm not from the U.S. You might as well ignore it.

2. Seating distance

3-5 meters from the TV.

3. Size/placement limitations

I have plenty of space, no worries there. And as said, I only want 35-40".

4. Uses and sources

As said, I will use only my consoles.

5. Room lighting

The room can be both very dark or have good lighting. (Huge window and curtains).

tl;dr

I want to know what to look out for when I get my new gaming only TV (plasma or LCD, don't care). Input lag, refresh rate, resolution, etc. and when to know that they are acceptable (1 frame of input lag, for example. Good enough or not?). I don't care about gimmicks, just a plain TV for gaming.

The kind of games I'll play are mostly shooter, action, and adventure games. No fighting or music games.

Well, on that note, maybe I'll ask for some advice

It seems to me that this sticky is more efficient than starting a new thread asking for advice every time, but who knows?

I'm looking at two different 60" LED's for my basement HT, a Sony KDL60EX700 and a Sharp LC-60LE810UN. Seems like a consistent $500 price difference between the 2 with the Sharp being less expensive and in person they are very similar in picture quality. (I was very surprised with the Sharp). Not really a gamer enough for it to be taken into consideration so this will primarily be for movies and cable. Any advice is appreciated. THANKS

Hi,

My Toshiba 20af41 is having power problems again so instead of fixing it for the second time in less than a year, I might as well get a new tv. I am thinking LCD but LED might work for me too.

The most important thing I need is a video output (and line-level audio outputs that aren't affected by the volume control.)

The reason why is I use EyeTV (for Mac) and want to record ANYTHING that is run through the tv (VCR, DVD, DirecTV DVR and front panel AV jack for camcorder if necessary.). The easiest way to do that is to use the video out. My Toshiba has a composite out as well as RCA outputs for the audio (which I run through the stereo).

I am not finding new tvs that are affordable (~$200) that have this feature. I can't spend more than $300.

Since I have DirecTV, S-VHS is the best I can get from my DVR (R-15) so I'll need an S-VHS input.

I also use a DVD recorder that has component video out and composite video inputs. I'll need audio inputs for that on the tv as well.

I currently use a video A/B switch and a separate audio switch box to take care of routing between the tv and the DVD recorder, VCRs and DVR. The Toshiba has 5 video inputs (3 composite, 1 component and 1 S-VHS.)

I also only have only 25" total width to put it in, that's not measured diagonally but edge to edge.

Thanks for any help. I could spend more if I am sure I can get everything I have to work with it.

Cheers,

John L

Hello!

My girlfriend just moved into a new apartment, and she will be buying a new TV to replace the old non-HD CRT that she currently has. I (and she) would love to get your advice, suggestions, and specific model recommendations.

1. Budget
Preferably under $500; maximum of $600, although if there is a disproportionately large benefit to be had by spending just a few dollars more, feel free to mention it.

2. Seating distance
Normal viewing will be between 8 and 10 feet from the display.

3. Size/placement limitations
32- to 42-inch screen size. Currently unclear whether it will be wall-mounted or on a stand, so if a particular model should be set up in only one way or the other, please mention that.

4. Uses and sources
Comcast cable (regular and HD), DVD, PC (with 1080p video files), and possibly Blu-ray; no gaming consoles. I'm aware of the relationship between screen size and viewing distance, so 1080p might be beside the point, but I just thought I'd mention it.

5. Room lighting
Variable viewing conditions: from completely dark sometimes (at night and with the lights out) to sunny and bright in the daytime. One entire "wall" of the (rectangular) room is windowed as a result of its being the sliding glass door to the balcony; it is 90 degrees perpendicular to the plane of the LCD display, and will be between 2 to 4 feet (depending on final placement) from the display's right side.

Thanks in advance.

42" Zenith 720p plasma from Sears for $449

If room really is bright during the day, probably go for an lcd for brighter picture and less reflectivity. Also 32" seems small if you browse the shelves at walmart. Go for at least 40" if you can. Currently LG, Samsung, and Panasonic are top competing brands. I can't comment on off-brands.

By the way, finding a name brand lcd for under $600 is a deal, $650 is common. LCD this size will also likely be 1080p
post #441 of 4465
I'm looking to upgrade to a 32". It will mostly be used for gaming. 1080p isn't that big of a deal. I would $500 is probably the highest I would go. I have been looking at a lot of the Samsung and LG brands. What other brands would be good to look at besides those two? I would like to stay with a main brand. Hows Philips reputation?
any $450 recommendations for a 32" minimum?
I'm looking for the best LCD/LED TV for primarly video games (so I want a crisp picture) but also movies (I don't want a Plasma-type picture though), the only thing that matters is PQ. I want to be able to plug my PC (but I don't need to have a DVI port, I can get a dvi-hdmi converter, it's fine). I don't care about internet connectivity or any features, I just want the best colors, best black levels, etc.

I want it to be 37"-42", my budget is around $1200 and I live in CANADA.

Thanks for the help.

Hi guys,

Wanted to [post advice here myself. But tbh I think with the basic questions u should look at a different fthread. It will give u a good idea on whats the best for you.

If gaming is your thing...i must say that the premium statistic is INPUT LAG.
Sad thing is this is not a statistic thats really in use. Check out input lag wars thread for info here.

Could be that the true big boys in LCD tv like Samsung and Sony are using panels thats rather bad in this regard.
I am not saying they have bad TVS inputllag wise...but you really need to look at high end stuff for good ones.

So if u are looking for info on this...read reviews, threads like input wars. If u want to make it easy on yourself:
Here is my 2 cts.

Seems that panasonic is the premier gaming screens outthere.

1) For console gaming.....panny plasma is awesome. Best for input lag.

2) LCD panasonic uses the IPS panel and IPS seems to be the fastest LCDs tech. Also not unimportant is the fact that Pannys lcd seems to be the most reliable for low input lag.
2009 models seems to have low input lag.
2010 teh V20 LEd has very very good input lag. less than 1 frame. 16MS according to tests.

3)LG/Philips uses IPS panels too. BUT unlike panasonic is not as reliable of having a low input lag screens.

Philips has good game modes, but they uses different panels on eth same model. Sharp or LG!

LG IMO are missing out big time here. They manufacture IPS panels themselves. But LGs aren't reliable on input lag...some are great, but some are pretty bad.
If they are using IPS panels...could be a problem with the game mode they are using.(PS to be fair...LG has so many screens out there...and just a tiny bit is tested)

Sharp produces there own Panels...and the LE700/600 are the kings of input lags it seems. BUT bad viewing angles and teh new model the LE705 is not as great in test when checking teh input lag.

Anyway these are basically the TVS you can look at when considering TVs for gaming with great input lag..

Greetings,

Looking for 37" LCD to wall mount in bedroom

Considering Samsung LN37C550, LG 37LD450, and Panny TC-L37X2 or TC-L37U22.

Are these all IPS panels? Which for best viewing angle?

Would also like decent sound quality although my exceptions are set accordingly low.

Any opinions on these sets would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Cliff

Hi,

I am planning to buy 46 in LED tv. After deep thought i have finalised i will go for Samsung brand for LED.

I have read a lot about Samsung UN46B8500 & is seriously thinking this TV for buying.
From what i have read, i believe next models that samsung came up after UN46B8500 are UN46C8000 & then the 9000 series.

Right now buying 9000 series is out of my budget, so that leaves me with two optioins

Samsung UN46B8500 & Samsung UN46C8000.

which one would be a better TV?

Should i consider option of sony as well?

Regards,
Anup.

Hey All.
I am looking to purchase a new TV (my fiancée broke up with me and the current TV is hers). I do have space limitations - the TV case cannot be wider then 45 and 3/8 inches - though it can be any height/depth. Currently I have a Toshiba Regza 46 inch and it fits nicely (just enough space to get my fingers between the tv and wall).

I have an Harman Kardon 3600 receiver, and Bose speakers.

I am looking for an LED and would like to spend around $1,400-1500 (flexible a little). My friend recommended the Samsung UN46C6500 46" 1080p LED HDTV, but I am not sure where to go.

Suggestions?

looking for a good set 55 + inch

Mostly use for gaming and blu-ray.

I have presently a Samsung LN-T4665F, great set but the screen is too small to my taste now.

Had the Sony HX909 in mind but 52 inch for 4300CAD....

Was considering these model

sharp 820, sony Ex700 , sony NX800, Sony Hx800, Lg 8500

for samsung didn't really check since they have alot of model and kind of got me lost 6300/6500/6800/6400
