My old 50" DLP is on its way out and it's time for a new TV. I've been back and forth 100 times on what fits my needs and I'm having trouble deciding. My primary concerns are imagine quality first and gaming second. I don't care about 3D at all, smart TV isn't important to me. I do all my gaming on PC right now but I have kids that are getting older and like gaming and the PS4 might get me back into the console gaming world which is the main reason I think I've eliminated the Panasonic ST60 as my TV.
I've been happy with the 50" but really if my budget allows, I think I'd want a 55-60".
2. Seating distance
Current distance is around 11ft. Not really an option to move closer.
3. Size/placement limitations
No limitations. It will be on my current TV stand which is wide enough to accomodate up to 80" np.
4. Uses and sources
PS3 for blu-ray. Cox HD cable. Netflix streaming from PS3. Gaming on PS4
5. Room lighting
My biggest concern with a plasma. My room has 4 large windows. A 5th small window and 2 skylights. It gets a LOT of natural light and is almost unwatchable with glare from the skylights in the afternoon. Obviously I'll have to do something to reduce glare from the skylights but no matter what I do there will be a lot of natural light during the day.
I've been eyeballing the Sony KDL-50R550A but really wish the 60" was cheaper. Seems like a good fit for my needs but not having a size upgrade makes me a little sad.
Edit: throwing the Panasonic TC-L58E60 and the Samsung f6300 on the short list as possibilities. Both provide a size upgrade and clock in around my budgeted 1k (the Samsung is on sale for 1k from bjs starting 9/16). Tough decisions.
