Hello!

I hope you can help me to decide between LG 37LD450 or SAMSUNG LE37C530 (spanish versions). LG best price found is 436€ and SAMSUNG 473€.

Both are very similar. Differences are:

Dynamic Contrast
LG 60.000:1
SAMSUNG 80.000:1

Response Time
LG 6ms
SAMSUNG 8ms

HDMI connections (I don't mind this)

Panel
LG is IPS and/or AUO @ 37" ¿?¿?
SAMSUNG is MVA/PVA

The TV will be used 99% for watching TDT SD (DVB-T) and 1% for videos via USB. No PC nor gaming, so I don't mind input lag.

My most important requirements are:

+ The clearest image under sunlight. The TV will be next to big windows with direct sunlight, so I need a non-reflective screen (I have to close the windows with my actual CRT). I know Samsung C530 has matte screen. Does LG LD450 have matte or glossy screen?

+ The sharpest image with SD content (DVB-T), and with the less blur/contrail possible at motion scenes.

It is also important viewing angles, but not so much. TV will be in a corner so I need 90º more or less (45º+45º)

With these requirements, which of the two possibilities LG or SAMSUNG would be the better?

In case of choosing LG, what panel do I have to look for: IPS or AUO? Which is better for my needs? (I'm not a cinephile so black level is not a big deal) Or is there only one panel mode at 37" ? (42" would be too big maybe...)

Hello everyone, been awhile since I posted here... Anyway, our old 37" Vizio 60hz 1080p HDTV died suddenly and we're looking to replace it with something decent at a budget price.

1. Budget: $800 tops
2. Seating Distance: 8 to 10 feet
3. Size/Weight Restriction: No bigger than 42", no heavier than 40lbs
4. Typical Usage: BluRays and Gaming
5. Would like: 120hz, little to no gaming lag

The one niggle here is that we are limited to shopping at Walmart/Sams, because the budget for this new TV came from the warranty payout from them being unable to fix our old one. I've found a handful of sets that seem to fit the bill, listed below, but am open to any suggestions.

37" Vizio VIA Razor LED LCD 1080p 120Hz XVT373SV

Vizio E420VL 42" LCD TV is the one I would look at , good unit much below your budget.

these come to mind right away because of the pricing but there are several other options

One of our bedroom TV's has decided to stop working so I'm taking this opportunity to upgrade the living room TV (Samsung LN46A750) and moving it to the bedroom.

I've narrowed it down to 3 models:
Samsung UN55C8000
Samsung PN58C8000
Sony KDL-55NX810

I really like the picture on the Samsung plasma along with the better viewing angles, but the only thing concerns me is the buzzing. I know not everybody hears it but it still concerns me.

Another concern is that I notice the black levels and viewing angles on the new edge-lit LED's isn't quite as good as the CCFL LCD's. Maybe it's just in my mind?

To me, the overall picture on the LED Samsung is better than the LED Sony, but the color reproduction is better on the Sony. Sony's 3D also seems to be a step ahead although I hear the firmware fix has solved some issues on the Samsung.

Any suggestions?

I would go with the Sammy PN58C8000 and you can get the 3d package if you like, it looks like you do like Plasma and you will be happy with it and people I talk to never complained to me about the buzz and if it bothers you just swap it for the LCD, but I think you will keep it IMO

I have a bias toward LCDs away from plasma mainly because of the historical "burn in" issue which has/hasn't been resolved. Also, when viewing both at the store the plasma looked more grainy? I know out of the box settings probably are terrible for both.

My current unit is a Samsung HL-S5688 (moving to living room) so that's what I have to compare these with.....

Pros/Cons of both?

I have not heard of issues with burn in for a while now. At the store its hard to tell the real picture because of the feed and how they split the signal.
One is bigger THe plasma will have that more "realistic" look for movies but gaming wise and compuer wise I would still go LCD.
And if you like LCD why not stick with it

Personally I have had more luck with the Sammy. LG is a good brand but from my experiance the Sammy is more popular and liked

Hey everybody. My wife and I just returned to the States after having been in Europe for a year, and now I wish I had brought our TV with us.. but alas, we must purchase a new set or two. The primary set will be in our living room, (which was converted from a bedroom because it looks much better that way IMO) and the viewing distance from the wall where I'll be hanging the set to the couch is a bit less than 10 feet.

I'm looking for a full HD-TV 1080p set with a few bells and whistles.

My budget: I'd like to spend around $500-$600 or less if possible

Size of the set: Can range from 32"-37" possibly even 40" There's plenty of wall space, honestly. And would probably even go up to 42"

I prefer Samsung and LG. The last set we had was the LG LH3000 which I hacked to get the USB port working, and this is one of my MAIN concerns, aside from overall picture quality and sound.

I would prefer that I not have to hack firmware in order to hook up an external HD to play back Divx/Avi/AAC/Mp4 files etc.. I know that some of the Sammy's have this feature built right in, and even have great menu systems for said functionality.

I don't game very much, if at all. My Xbox (original) is in a suitcase doing nothing. I really like streaming content from Hulu, Netflix etc. and would love to also hook up a device (don't own a BR player yet) which has the ability to stream said content (as some BR players can access the net via wifi).

Any ideas on where to get started ? I'd really appreciate it.

Thought I could edit my last post guess not. The Sets I'm looking at currently:

LG 37LD450 $500 at J&R or $415 Open box.
Vizio E370VA
Toshiba 37E200U

The set must be capable of playing back Avi/Divx content from an external drive. Would prefer not to hack, but if it's not a hassle, I'll do it anyway. After that pic quality and sound quality is the top priority, of course.

This is for FPS Gaming (Black Ops!), movies, some TV. The LG is $100 cheaper. Any thoughts?

Anyone recommend I get the PSP with Future Shop / Best Buy?

Oh boy, lot's of questions here. If someone could give me an answer on this asap, it would be most appreciate:

I am nearly ready to pull the trigger on the Sony KDL-55HX800 deal that's going on (and I realize I should do it asap), but I'm debating between it and banking on the fact that a comparable Samsung will come along in the next few weeks.

I'm going to be using this TV for 2D only, and space/depth is a very high priority for me (which is why I'm leaning towards a Samsung). The difference in depth between this and a high-end Samsun is nearly 2 inches, and I'm currently living in a fairly cramped apartment where space is a serious premium.

Anyway, if someone makes a compelling enough case to go for this in the next few minutes, I think I'm going to snap up the Sony.

I was going to look into a plasma since they dont tend to be as bright. The reason I bring up brightness is when I had my computer in the bedroom that the brightness kept my gf from sleeping on that side of the bed.

Since you are open to Plasma, Samsung's 42c450 can be had for well below your budget. At 8-10 feet the 720p resolution won't be an issue.

Samsung LN40C560 could be good for you because it has good USB video support, and Samsung Internet Apps.Price isn't high.

Non of these TVs have divx support over USB.

LG 32LD550 or 42LD550 have USB support for the following media formats: asf,wmv,divx,avi,mp4,m4v,mkv,ts,vob,mpg, mp3,jpeg.

You can also check Samsung LN37C550, it has also good USB video support, including divx, xvid and mkv.

At least consider it, the c450 plasma line is a killer bargain, I actually find my 50c450 to be comparable to many top LCDs and Plasma sets.

As for some LCDs that are comparable in price at the 40 inch size Sony's 40ex500 is a very solid LCD. The step down ex400 should be good as well. Samsung's LCDs are too unpredictable in this size and price range to recommend them openly, you can still look into the c450 and c550 range but you will be dealing with Samsung's famous panel lotto.

You can always turn brightness or backlight down if you don't need it. And it actually saves backlight and extends TV lifetime.

LCD with glossy screen (for better color depth) could be good for you (Samsung LN40C650, Sony KDL-40NX700 LED). Or, as you said, Plasma. e.g. Panasonic TC-P42G25 or little bit less better - TC-P42S2

Hello,

Here is my dilemna, have a budget of about 900 bucks (really dont want to go over that) I think my choices at this point are between the following two tvs:

55" visio e550vl

50" samsung PN50C550G1F

Both are roughly the same price. Which would give me the better bang for my buck? The tv will be going in the living room, and used for everything, blu rays, xbox, cable, etc. Viewing Distance is about 10 feet or so.

Cant decide and need a little help.

I was wondering... I had to hack my LG LH3000 to get the USB port to work with divx etc.. I'd be perfectly happy doing that. Are there USB hacks for the LG 32/37 LD450 ? I'd hate to spend another $150 just for that

Samsung 40C630 vs LG 42LE550

Both have 100Hz and similar specs.

LG 560€ with S-IPS panel
Samsung 600€ S-PVA panel

Which is better for SD viewing? Which has less motion blur?

News out today is that Walmart has launched a price war due to the glut of flat screen TV's on the market. This tells us about the state of the depression.

China, who buys US debt, is now questioning the fact that the Fed is going to print 600B of worthless money.

Hi thank you in advance. I just got married, and want to buy my husband a new tv for the holidays, he like sports, he has a playstation as well. We live in an apartment have a ton of sunlight all day. Primary use for tv / movies, maybe 25% gaming.

1. Budget: $500-1000
2. Seating Distance: 8 to 10 feet
3. Size/Weight Restriction: 46 inch min.
4. Typical Usage: Watching sports, movies, tv, 25% gaming.
5. Would like: - Something that will not dominate the room

I have thought of maybe the LN46c630 series, but there are so many other models, plasma tv's i do not know enough about. Definitely need some advice.

I am looking to get my first HDTV. My budget is kind of low right now(my plan is that this will start as main tv and end up in bedroom in a couple years). Anyway here are details:

Budget: $1000 max
Viewing Distance: about 10 Feet
Size: Somewhere between 35" and 45"
Lighting: I would prefer a Matte screen i think(reflections will be an issue)

I will be using this for OTA HD, Blu-Ray, PS3 Games, Netflix, Hulu, etc..

Internet apps would be a plus but are not required(i can just use pc). I have no care for having 3d at all.
