Panasonic TC-P42X1 and Mac Mini Resolution

Hello all,

I was hoping I might be able to get a little help with my P42X1 and Mac mini. As documented in many other places, I have the problem where, if I turn overscan off, I have a 15%-20% black boarder around the image, and with overscan on, the "over" bit is way to extreme. I am using plex so I can manually adjust the app to fit the four corners of the screen when I have overscan on, but for watching DVD's (from the disc, not from a copied ts_video folder), the overscan is annoying (Plex does not play DVD's from the disk, so I have to go with frontrow or the dvd player).

I have read (and read and read) about Switchresx and Displayconfigx. In short, I cannot get anything going there. I either get a blank screen (I am controling the mini through remote desktop so it is easy to switch resolutions), or I end up with a resolution that I already have access to. I simply cannot get a resolution going where the image from the mini sits snugly in the four corners of the screen. I know that this is a well documented frustration with the mini to plasma setup, but it seems that many have had this issue resolved with Switchresx - for me, no dice.

I have read through many of the forums here, including all 100 pages of the "The Official Panasonic TC-P50X1 and TC-P42X1 Owner's Discussion & Information Thread" and see there are others with the same problem, but no resolution (bad unintentional pun) has been mentioned. I have also spent too much time in the Switchres X Tutorial pages here.

My setup is a 2009 Mac Mini, MB464LL/A hooked up with a DVI -> HDMI .

Any help would be deeply appreciated. Many thanks...

I have a similar problem: connecting a Mac Mini to Panasonic VT20 plasma, AND a Apple Display, simultaneously.

I have to use a HDMI splitter (1 input, 2 outputs), but I think that if I use overscan, if I will not use overscan, it will fit perfect on the Apple Display, but with black edges on the TV

Or, if I will use overscan, on the TV will fit, but on the Apple Display, it will be overscaned.

What should I do? Buy 2 Mini is not the best solution
