Just curious if the lip sync issue was ever resolved? I just bought this for my parents but have been reading that there are lip sync issues. They have a 7 year old receiver that'll do DTS and Dolby Surround. I like 3 hours away and I need something they're not gonna have issues with, since they aren't super technical and I'm their tech support.
Just wanted to see if someone can give an updated review. I thought about getting the Panasonic DMP-65 or 85.
They have a Vizio EV550 as their TV set.
Thanks.

There's a new firmware showing in the Sony support website now. It's dated 12/9/2010. Apparently it's not available over the network yet because when I tried to update the player, it kept saying "Already Updated". However, I tried to burn a disc from their website, but I keep getting an 'Error Message" everytime I click on "Accept Agreement"

I'm looking at getting this Sony to replace my older Pioneer BD player and Roku, but I have a couple of questions:

Can someone compare Netflix and Amazon VOD on the sony to a Roku? My Roku just died and I am looking to combine devices with the Sony if possible.

Thanks!

This happened with the last time. Seems Sony likes to post that there WILL be an update soon. I doubt they have it finished. Check the file size: 1 byte?

Anyone get PS3 Media Server to successfully stream to the BDP-S570? I have it connected (showed up under XMB and showed file structure) and I tried to stream .mp3, .jpg, and .mp4 files to no avail. (Incompatible File Format).
I know this is "PS3" Media Server, but I love it's rawness and ease of use and low resource use on home computer.
Would also like to know what the best file format to encode to from DVD source that would be playable. Currently encoding to "PS3 compatible .mp4" setting using DVDFab7, but the video is a little grainy, more than a standard DVD video. Thanks in advance for any and all info. Any suggestions for a media server other than WMP (Hate the file structure under the XMB) and TVersity (kinda the same reason and some hiccuping while streaming). Thanks again.

I tried to do a disc upgrade, but the download link is broken. I guess I will have to wait until Dec 16th. I'm hoping this update will have a better netflix user interface including the search feature. It's not specifically listed under the update description, though.

I'm getting close to getting a S570. I tested netflix on wii and had no issues. Running wirless 6mbp with wireless G.

The player will connect to my crt display via HDMI to DVI and audio to prologic receiver. My Sony up convert player connects that way. I suspect that won't be a problem with the 570.

Netflix will not be a deal breaker, but here is the question. The aspect ratio locks at 16x9 when player is set to 1080I. That's my set's resolution. Does netflix stream at 4 x 3 pan and scan or does it stream at anamorphic 16 x 9? If it streams at 4 x 3, my set will have bars on the side. If it streams at non anamorphic 16 x 9 the set will have bars top, bottom, and sides.

That of course will make Netflix worthless to me. But like I said, that will not be a deal breaker. I will use it strictly for DVD's, as I use my current Sony upconvert DVD player now, and for Blue Ray. I know that I could set the player at 480P and then be able to use the TV's stretch modes, but I really don't like to do that. But then again, maybe I will.

Problem.

No matter what I do, the unit blinks the word 'wait' on the front panel.

Any suggestions?

Guys,

Just picked up this unit at Costco for $129.99 and it comes with the HDMI cable. I was almost tempted to buy this from the Sony store yesterday when I saw it on sale for $139. They told me it will be that price until the end of the month. Iam glad I waited and went to costco to pick it up.

Well I have the unit all dialed into my wireless network and even downloaded the RC-app for the iPhone4. The remote-App appears to be functioning surprisingly well.

This player is replacing my Panny BD-35 which is a great unit, was moved to my home office. The only issue I am having is the Audio output on the Sony. When it is set to either HDMI auto or HDMI/PCM I still cannot get my YAmaha RX-3800 to read the DTS master HD audio. The display on the player says its outputing DTS master HD audio, but the reciever does not say it at all, no matter which audio mode I switch to on the Blu-ray audio settings!!!!!

The PCM lights are lit on the Yamaha. So am I to assume that the player is decoding DTS master HD-audio and streaming it to the receiver?

The NEW firmware update that another member posted seems to address this along with internet video streaming in SD rather than HD. If so, I'll wait till the 16th to see if it corrects these bugs.

TIA

"So am I to assume that the player is decoding DTS master HD-audio and streaming it to the receiver?"

Yes. There is a setting, similar to secondary audio off, that you have to turn off in the player. Watching Eagles/Dallas at the moment and if I tried to switch to the BD player I'd not be able to type for awhile.

jsmiddleton4 your the man!!!!!!!! When I looked over the audio settings I went thru each one and this was the only one I left on the default "on". Turning this setting to the "off" position allows the HD-audio to stream thru the HDMI to the Yamaha receiver and decodes the signal and if finally shows on the receiver as DTS-Master HD. NICE

THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I picked up the 570 on the weekend. Love the speed of this thing, but I'm a little concerned about some audio drops.

I've set it to bitstream audio to my Denon 2809, which I'd prefer to do the decoding. We watched Cars, and I noticed sound would drop randomly for less than a second. It was noticeable enough to annoy me, but not the 1 - 2 second drops I've read about in this thread. I have yet to test any other movies, or to test it with the player doing the decoding and am hoping this is a one off. Will do some more testing this week.

Anyone else experiencing similar very short audio drops?

I'd let the player do the decoding and see if it that fixes the problem (I used to try to bitstream everything, but have found that letting my players do the decoding has solved almost every issue). If that doesn't work start turning off HDMI features one by one (24p, HDMI CEC, deep color, etc).

I was actually wondering what brands of blu-ray player were reliable for a lower cost unit. I've decided personally that panasonic and sony are the two most reliable brands for an every day player that doesn't cost a lot. Any other suggestions?

I purchased the S570 on Black Friday and now after some problems started to appear I attempted to upgrade the firmware.
1. If I try to upgrade via the Wi-Fi, the process gets to about step 4/9 at which point it terminates with a message to the effect that the server disconnected. This was attempted several times with same result in the same place.
2. If I try to create a CD with the latest firmware, I get an XML error when I finally click on "Accept Terms" in the download process.
So, how am I to upgrade?
The problem that prompted me to attempt to upgrade firmware was that the HDTV linked via an HDMI cable often shows static multi-colored lines whenever the S570 is in the Home settings mode. No display noise appears when playing a disk. Any other explanations possible?
Also, the player makes loud clanking noises when first powered on .. is that normal?

After contacting tech support, I got the following response:

Thank you for contacting Sony Support.

I'm sorry that the Firmware of the Blu-ray Player cannot be updated. Based on the information you've provided, I suggest that you request the Firmware disc from Sony and then attempt to update the Firmware of the unit by using that Firmware update disc. Please refer to bullet 2 under the heading "Important Notes" in the below provided link for the information to order the disc. Sony will provide you a free of cost Firmware update disc.

Hey all, I'm having some frustrations with this sony player compared to my panasonic player(s). I want to look at the BD Live extras for back to the future and the sony isn't even loading them on start. I've erased the internal memory and started fresh. The bdlive extras load for the chipmunks movie on the sony. The sony completely skips the live features on back to the future and goes directly to the menu. Any Ideas ?

Thanks, will look into it. I was trying to get TVersity to run on her, but that ain't looking good either. Does NOT show up on the S570 and when I do a network test it says it's not a DLNA server.... go figure. Might have to stick with WMP until I can research PS3 Media Server more

Isn't the initialize personal information option in resetting supposed to clear account info such as youtube? If it is, It's not working for me. I ran it a couple of times today, and my youtube account still states its logged in as me.
