The HDMI1 can be added to favorites if you want to avoid the input button. I did this because of personal issues with ARC turning on my TV speakers. You haven't mentioned your TV make & model, but that seems to be the complicated part, not the 570. Before the AVR I still had HDMI control disabled on the TV. Your wife is right: it's too complicated. Bottom line is that turning a device on will cause a switch on my AVR, turning it off does not (on my TV or AVR) cause a switch back.

Joe, after looking through my tv's (HX800) i-manual, I discovered that if I leave the BD570 HDMI Control on "off" and go into my tv's menu (don't know if it's the same for all Sony's), it will allow me to set up different parameters-for instance, have the BD player turn on the tv and switch to correct input, but also have the tv turn off and not turn off the BD player. Check it out, this has made it a bit easier.

I'm not sure if this has been covered already (I didn't spot it in some light searching of the thread) but is it normal operation that the S570 will forget/reset your viewing location on a disc once the power has been turned off (and I think even when you go to the main menu and then reselect the disc to play, without powering down)?

I find I'm hitting this issue a lot.. For example, I left a disc paused, and when I later came back the player had apparently powered down.. And reset my location. I had to start the disc from the very beginning with trailers etc and then refind my location..

I'm sure hoping it's a setting, or user error (need to hit a certain button on the remote control?). Past players I've had not only remember the location after power off, but some even restored the location after I had put in other discs and then put the old disc back in again.. I'd be plenty satisfied with the former.

Thanks

Blu-ray resume function is entirely based on the disc, and how it's authored by the studio. The function of which you speak was probably referring to standard DVD players.

One quick question-does anybody else's player make a sort of thunking sound (like 3 quick noises) when powering up. It's obviously mechanical, maybe the laser moving. Is this normal-the player functions perfectly and I don't want to return it if this is normal.
Thanks

Yes, the laser will make a clicking sound with no disc in the drive. It's seeking to find a disc. Depending on how close you are to the player, is how much you'd hear it. Plus your drive may just have a louder motor then someone else's.

I did a search here but didn't see any so I'm wondering, dose anyone know the code for S570 remote control? I'm trying to program my universal remote.
Thanks.

Welcome to the Avsforum. You should say which universal remote you have .

Can I ask the status of AVCHD disc playback with the S570? I recently burned a couple of discs and one just played audio, the other played back but if you skipped to another chapter you lost video. Lots of potential variables but can the S570 playback AVCHD discs? Any suggestions to ensure the disc plays back? I'm starting to miss my PS3 again...

The AVS 709 plays back fine in this player, it's an avchd disc.
I should have clarified that I am referring to AVCHD discs you create.

Thank you.

It's Onkyo RC-690M (came with preamp). The manual shows bunch of codes but doesn't have a list for Bluray players.

Did you try all the Sony DVD codes ? Your remote has no "Bluray" key but perhaps one of the DVD codes can work.
I tried all DVD player codes but to no avail. I did see a list of Bluray player codes for other Onkyo remote online but those didn't work either.

My sister and I are giving this to my parents for Christmas tomorrow. It will go in their theater room, which is showing some age. but still looks great. They have a Denon 3805 receiver, everything converted to component to their 720p LCD projector. It has a DVI port that is HDCP compliant, so video will run straight to the projector. Last year, I connected my HD-DVD player, and it looked great. I'm especially looking forward to see upscaled DVDs sent as 720p. (the projector has lousy upconversion, and did a poor job with 480p DVDs.)

So for now, we are stuck with coax digital for audio. Will it send DD and DTS core audio? I'm hoping for Dolby true HD@ 640kbps and DTS@ 1.5Mbps. Will this be the case?

thanks,
EJ

Hi all, sorry if this is a repeat question for this thread but I couldn't find anything similar.

I cannot figure out how to make the BDP-S570 (actually, in my case the identical BDP-BX57 purchased from Costco) play DVDs in letterbox format.
I suspect that part of my problem is that I have an old TV (Philips 4:3 analog-only). I read a similar complaint from another owner in a different forum. He had a JVC TV and eventually returned his BDP-S570.

I have gone through every setting I can find in the menu system and have set the following:

TV Type is set to 4:3
DVD Aspect Ratio is set to Letterbox

The latter setting is accompanied by an enigmatic note on the display which says that 'DVD output should be set to 16:9 to display on a 4:3 TV' or something similar. However, there is no special 'DVD Output' setting I can find, and I tried changing the TV Type to 16:9 to no avail.

I am absolutely certain that the DVDs I have tested are letterbox, they play perfectly on my old DVD player and on my laptop. The only Blu-ray DVD I have also appears to be playing with an incorrect aspect ratio on the Sony, but I have no other alternate Blu-ray player to use for testing.

Additional background: I recently lost my old Denon A/V amp to old age and had to replace it, choosing Denon's new AVR-1911. I am using the old RCA-style video cable to connect from the Sony to the Denon and from the Denon to my old TV. It appears that the Denon will not accept HDMI input from the Sony, and convert it to analog RCA video for output. I am using the digital optical audio connector from the Sony to the Denon, and my audio is fine.

I suspect if I just went out and bought an HDMI widescreen TV all would be well, but I really can't afford to replace my whole bloody home theatre setup at one go.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Roger

It will not send out hd audio over digital coax only via hdmi. However it will send out lossy Dolby digital and dts. Depending on the quality of your system it may be difficult to tell the difference. If they have an amazing audio system you may opt fora player with 7.1 analog outs in order to decode lossless audio internally and hook direct to the receiver. Hope this helps?

I'm sorry I didn't read all 2000 posts but is anyone else noticing some over processing(interpolation, dejudder, automation, soap opera effect) in this player I can't figure it out. Many of my blurays appear to have a fake look to them. It was noticeable on sources from. Casino royal, to salt to Christmas story? My display is a 60" lg 3d plasma (60px950) and as far as I can tell I have no interpolation on any other source even my old Panasonic blu ray player. I am very sensitive to this and may end up returning the player and going with the oppo 93 or the samsung c7900 to get more picture control and dual hdmi for my legacy pioneer elite receiver. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I realize it will not send hd audio, and my dad didn't want a player with analog multi-channel outs, as he'll upgrade receivers fairly soon. I was asking at what bit rate the player will pass through coax or optical connections.

As with all players it is 768kbps/5.1 or 1536kbps/2.0 PCM.

Usually it's the TV that causes this but you could turn off 3D, Deep Color and 24Hz to see if that helps.

Hi everyone! I'm new here. I know it's poor form to introduce yourself and then immediately ask for a favor, but I'm hoping that somebody might be caught up in the holiday spirit and lend a guy a hand.

I just bought this player for my Dad, and I'm trying to get him set up to use all the internet features. I'm connected to the wireless network according to every diagnostic, and I've updated the firmware successfully. However, under each part of the XMB is the refresh symbol, and it's telling me that there is updated content available. However, every time I attempt to access this content, the process times out during the first step. At first, I assumed that it was a server side issue, seeing as it's Christmas and I'm sure I'm not the only guy who got this player for somebody. However, I popped in a disc and it informed me at the menu that I was not connected to the internet and that I should do so in order to access all of its fancy BD Live content. Connection status from the main menu and the diagnostic all still say that I'm connected and everything is correct.

I'm running a Westell 7500 for a router, and my signal strength is around 78-84% using WPA-2 encryption. Is there a port forwarding issue maybe? I can't seem to find anything. I don't have the ability to hard wire anything at the moment. That's a bit more of a project that I was hoping to get into. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Happy Holidays everybody.

Make sure you have "BD Internet Connection" set to "allow". It's under BD/DVD Viewing Settings. This should enable the BD Live.

Can't help with the time out. Happy Holydays !

New owner here need help with component wires.
I have this unit hooked up to my Sony Bravia 1080p via component.
But every standard dvd I play only plays in 480p. I did the easy set up and set up the resolution as 720p. And still every dvd is stuck at 480p resolution. What do I need to do?

Tv type is set to 16:9 in the screen settings by the way. And I have letterbox selected instead of pan & scan.
