When I got my S570 I connected it to my TV and powered it up. I ran the setup and connected it to my wireless G network. I went into the internet features on my S570 and as I looked around I was presented with a screen that said...

Example: Go to internet.sony.tv and enter your Registration Code: s76g (it was 4 digits for me)

I also remember my code changed (before I registered it) when I pulled power on the S570. Once registered it does not present a code anymore.

Seems odd that your S570 isn't giving you this code.

Could your S570 be already registered to someone else? Just a thought.

Interesting.... this unit was an 'open box' special at BB. The first person MAY have registered it.

I have, however, pulled the power, several times, while attempting to resolve this.... and also reset to factory, cleared personal data, etc.

Maybe I'll just bring it back and get a brand new new one.

When you register it states if you return/sell/etc the player be sure to login into your account and deactivate it so someone else can use it... perhaps a call to Sony might help. Appears to be similar to not deactivating the PS3 (for network content).

This must be the issue. I would definitely call Sony. They probably need to reset the player in their system. Good to know for future folks who buy used or open box.

Before I returned my S570 I logged into: https://internet.sony.tv/customer/te...=en&country=US and removed the player.

That's interesting. What can one do if the device has been registered already ? Is there any way to "reset" the registration ? Few years ago I returned a Dish receiver to Costco and few minutes later it was back on the shelf as "new". I bet there is a good chance that returned items don't have the registration cancelled.

I called Sony support. It seems the device HAD already been activated on another Netflix account. I probably should've realized this when I saw a couple movies under the Netflix apps Instant Queue.... I thought perhaps they were freebies. My bad.

Anyways, I deactivated the Netflix account (it's option on the blu-ray Netflix App) and it gave me a new code, and I linked it to a new Netflix account I created. The fellow with the Indian accent was quite helpful and knowledgeable. Netflix is now working..... yeah.

Now onto Pandora. That still appears to require that I get through that Sony Essentials account creation process where I (again) have to enter a code. The Netflix one does NOT appear to work.

So I call again. This person tells me that Pandora is NOT (repeat NOT) available and I cannot get a code. She is 100% sure I cannot use Pandora on my BDP-S570. She repeats that several times.

Is she correct?

Absolutely not. Pandora is active on all Sony x70 players. I didn't have to enter any code but I had to do what is in my previous post:

I'm sure you're all getting tired of this.

Anyways... thinking the 'Pandora is unavailable' girl is out to lunch... or hasn't been reading the latest Sony announcements, I tried again with a different tactic.

This time I complained that I couldn't get the code to login to Sony Essentials (I avoided mentioning Pandora). I was transferred once to someone that speculated my mac addy had already been registered in the Sony db. I was transferred again to the San Diego office where I was told that the only person in North America that can reset or remove a mac addy from their db had left for the day.

I am supposed to call today and schedule a time with this guy when I can be home and operating my S570 while he removes my mac addy(s) from their db.

The moral of this story... is do not buy open box, or second hand, equipment without insuring it has been un-registered.

I am still within my 30 day Return without question period at BB. I'm going to see if they have any S570's on my way home tonight (when I bought mine it was the only one available). If I can't get this resolved this evening, I think I'll just return it for a un-opened brand new one. This isn't worth the pitiful savings I received.

Do the next person a favor... Un-register it before you bring it back.

Quick question, the can the S570 link with a home network like the PS3 (like with Windows 7)?

Not yet. It needs the promised DLNA support, expected in a firmware upgrade in July. What will be allowed and what file types will be supported remains to be seen . Sony DLNA implementation on the TV is very limited. You can link to the home network to access the internet channels (Netflix, Amazon, others), obviously.

Ha ! I certainly will.... I'd hate for my Netflix instant queue to show up on the next owner's S570 Netflix app.

Edit/update: The San Diego office reset my mac address, and I was able to easily register with Sony Essentials and connect to Pandora and re-connect to Netflix. In addition to several postings here, I spent (probably) 1:15 minutes, in total, on 4 calls to support plus a failed attempt to resolve the problem via email support. As usual of support teams, I talked to some real airheads and (conversely) some knowledgeable and helpful folks.

I'd like, again, to thank everyone here for the great assistance. A special thanks to markjrenna who came up with the vital clue that the device may have been already registered to someone else.

-SD PQ is pretty good (I switched from a Samsung UP 5000 with HQV, which was as good as it gets - but I have not been disappointed at all with the 570)
-Netflix works great
-Pandora is cool. Slacker has limitations in the Sony form, but Padora works with your on-line account.
-SACD super cool. HDMI/DSD to my receiver. Simple. Clean.

But I've got one issue. I have HDMI set to "Auto" and was getting the native codec displaying on the Onkyo 706 I have it paired with (Dolby TruHD, etc.). But since the latest firmware upgrade, it now appears that no matter what I do, I get PCM sent to the receiver for DVDs (still get DSD for SACD). Am I missing something? Anyone else notice similar occurance?

I figured out my mistake. I had to turn the BD Audio MIX Setting to 'off' under Audio Settings. -mw

If you are a Costco member I believe they have it for around $250. That price comes with an HDMI cable and their lifetime return policy. Otherwise do an internet search. You should be able to find it for under $230.

The Costco price is $229

A friend of mine who hasn't set up his network yet, just bought a 570 because he liked mine so much. He will be getting broadband in a couple months and setting up a network then. In looking at the manuals for the 570, as well as the 370, there doesn't appear to be a way to update the software except through the internet. I have downloaded the latest update for him, but can't find a way to get it on his 570. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
I was able to update with a disc, but the firmware had to be burned as an image. I don't know why this isn't mentioned in the manual.

Just bought the S570 last night. My BD35 was giving me occasional problems with certain discs and it was getting annoying. So we moved that into the bedroom and grabbed this unit. So far I like it. Dark Side of the Moon on SACD sounded great via DSD to my Onkyo 705. Netflix quality seems good, even with my DSL internet (in fact, Spartacus looked better than it did when watching on my Ps3). Haven't played a BD yet, but I'm sure it looks about the same as my Ps3 and BD35 (which is great). Streamed some Pandora last night and I was happy with that. Overall, I'm loving the purchase.

Grabbed it at Best Buy. Had a 10% off coupon and $40 in reward zone coupons, so I got it for under $200. Yippee.

Here is how you can update your S570 without a network connection:

This player is addictive with so many things to watch, movies, concerts, etc. The wireless connection is pretty good on mine, but I also have a wireless N router. I only had one issue when watching a Netflix movie (The Nine) streamed to my player in which the connection was dropped. While I wasn't really impressed with this, it was the only movie that it happened with. Other movies have played fine, plus the quality is'nt as bad as other people have made it out to be. On the other hand, Amazon video is near perfect! The sound is awesome in 5.1 surround sound. Too bad they don't offier a monthly plan where I can download unlimited rental movies, instead of paying $4.99 for HD rentals. Blu ray's look outstanding! Dvd's look pretty good too, I'd say about the same as they did on my older Sony BDP-S350 player. Only other minor issue is that now my DVD's are displayed in 1080p, but at 24 frames per second. I'd rather they be displayed at 1080p/60fps. Reason i don't like this settng for DVD's is, for example; at the beginning of previews, there seems to be a pause when the preview is displayed at 1080p/60fps, then suddenly, it changes to 1080p/24fps. This causes the screen to go dark for those 2 seconds while it's transitioning to 1080p/24fps. Is there any way to change this on the player or reciever?

There is a option to turn it off in the blu ray player and I also have it turned off in my Bravia TV menu too.

I had the same issue, so I took your advice and switched the "BD Audio Mix" setting to "off".

My 570 is paired up with a Sony str-da3500 receiver, however, when switching it to "off", I noticed a huge drop in bass and it seems that I have to raise the volume a little higher than before when watching/listening to any BD with DTS Master Audio or Dolby TruHD. It sounds good, but before (when "BD Audio Mix" was set to "on") it would display Linear PCM on the receiver vs the native codec (which is the issue myself and Hokie_Mark had in first place). Was the receiver and player doing the decoding at the same time? What do you guys think? In your opinion, do movies sound better when set to "on" or "off"?

I got this player for $158 last week from Dell (orig price - 220 - 20% dell small business coupon - 5% bing cashback - $25 stackable coupon which i had)

My new player does not read my usb thumb drive does it have to be of a certain size?
I was thinking of getting this player, with the primary purpose of netflix streaming wirelessly. I had read an Amazon review where the reviewer said he had trouble inputting his wireless code because the player does not recognize capital letters and/or other characters and he had to change his code to accommodate the player. Is this true or is this a user error?

Secondly, while my Sony Wega has HDMI, my current receiver does not and I use optical for audio. Doing it this way, would there be any lip synch problems?
No issues on the lip sync I use optical out and its just fine.
any one figured out how to delete channels? The video XMB is a bit cluttered and I'd love to delete the Michael Jackson channel, etc.

thanks

Thanks for the confirmation, Wytchone. Think I will definitely go with this player after searching for the best price. Appreciate it...
