This particular disk was a Blu-Ray (The Last Airbender). I have not tried a different disk since we watched that though. However, we have watched this blu-ray previously and didn't notice any sound.

I'll have to try another disk and see if the noise persists.

2 questions:

1. Is there a way to prevent the S570 from auto-play when I put in a disc?
2. I watched a blu ray movie this weekend. During the movie, pressing the "top menu" or "pop up/menu" buttons on the remote didn't work. Meaning, I was unable to access the disc's menu. Anyone else experienced this?

I returned my 57 to Costco today. The Netflix constantly re-buffering was the deal-breaker for me. Bummer too, since all picture quality looked fantastic when it worked. Maybe if Sony fixes this with a firmware update I'll be back, but until then...onto searching or waiting for the perfect all-in-one device to come out.

Just a heads up, turned on the unit this morning and the new software notification popped up. Installed new firmware without problems, but haven't found out what's changed/fixed, or added yet. Going to sony's site now to see.

OK, sony's site doesn't list the update yet, so can't really give feedback on the changelog.

I just did the update too. I'll be really curious to find out what it adds/fixes.

It doesn't get rid of Michael Jackson. That would have been nice.

I was thinking netflix fixes with all the recent complaints. The interface is the same though, and I can't really see if it fixed anything, since I don't have netflix problems. Everything else looks the same. I even checked for new web content.

Haven't done the update yet, but it's on Sony's site. Here's all it says:

"This utility upgrades the Blu-ray Disc player firmware to version M04.R.752 and provides the following benefits:
Improvements over firmware version M04.R.735:
Improves BD-ROM playability."

I remember people in addition to reporting netflix complaints, also complaining about not being able to play some of the new blu-ray releases. Maybe this update addresses those, sony's info is often very vague it seems.

Maybe someone can report back to see if the firmware corrects an issue they were having previously .

Maybe it fixes the problem with fox blurays like the alien box set, I will try them soon

I'm having a problem streaming videos wireless from my computer. I record tv through WMC on my desktop. I'm able to see the videos through the sony but as soon as I start to play them it immediately starts stuttering. Ive left it on pause to see if it was a buffering problem but it still seems to only run clearly for about 5-6 sec even after extended periods. Viewing photos also takes a long time to load between pictures. Music plays fine. Anyone have any ideas on how to improve the connection? I'm sure a wired connection would be helpful but right now that's not possible because of location.

I like the player so far for dvd/bd's and netflix but I was hoping I could streams stuff off my computer too and so far I'm not impressed. Hoping I don't have to return it to Costco.

I think the firmware released yesterday messed up the option to "Do not allow" Internet connection. I was watching last night T2 Skynet edition and the disc kept loading all the internet crap even though I had "do not allow internet connection" selected. This makes me mad because this make the player takes longer to load. Does anyone else noticed this?

I haven't noticed anything. Most of my movies have some form of bd live cointent. In fact, yesterday I watched Beautify and the Beast, and I know that all disney stuff has BDLive. Didn't notice a difference here.

I have the same issue. Using Win7 on a Toshiba laptop, I captured some HD Video from NBC using a HVR-1950 months ago. I have both the S570 and Sony EX700 TV, both wireless and both act the same. If you do get a different BR that works, please come back and let us know. Your help would be appreciated. And my D-Link router shows a 100mbs connection to both units. That should allow HD video to stream. Except for the stutter the PQ is perfect.

"Does anyone else noticed this?"

No problem here.

I think his personal physician took care of that.

I'll admit I'm a bit leery of updating until some of you blaze the trail and report back that things are fine. Let me know.

Peace,

DM

The noise is quite loud.
I've had exactly the same noise issues with several disks on my Sony. The disks are not defective because when I play them on a different brand player they are fine. To say noisy is putting it mildly, it almost sounds like the machine is ready to fail.

Mine actually was the disk. I tried other disks and didn't have a problem at all.

So as you know I was having random black screen issues a few weeks back and I decided to switch the deep color setting from Auto to Off and I'm happy to say I've played roughly 10 discs since the change and have had zero issues.

What TV is the S570 connected to?

I am having the same problem and the only thing that has helped has been changing the output resolution onthe BDP-S570 to lower than 1080p (I have it set to 1080i right now). In my setup the BDP-S570 is connected to an AVR (Pioneer VSX-1120K). Anyone have any ideas how I can get full 1080p without the dreaded black screen appearing?

Sounds like one of your HDMI cables (player to AVR or AVR to TV) is not up to task for 1080p.

My Sony isn't noisy on all disks. Most times it plays perfectly. It is just every once in a while I get a disk it doesn't like. As I said above, the disks that the Sony doesn't like are no problem on a Panasonic machine. I am talking brand new right out of the box disks.

Is anyone havin issues playing Machete after the last firmware? Sony messed this player after the last firmware. Machete was playable by disabling the Internet connection on the player, and no it won't play anymore because the "Do Not Allow" internet connection settings on the player's menu won't work anymore. The Disc still connects even with the "Do not allow internet" connection setting selected.

I'm downloading m04.4.752 as I type this. I'll let you all know how things turn out.

I have recently purchased sony bdp s570 bluray player based on all the good reviews. I have started playing my old DVDs in the bluray player and to my disappointment, I see black stripes at the top and bottom of the screen. The same dvd used to be fine when playing through my old DVD player. I have a SONY 46 LCD TV.

For sony s570, I have set the following

TY Type: 16:9

Screen Format: Original

DVD Aspect Ratio: Letter Box

Not sure if I am missing any other configuration.

Upgraded the firmware and tried playing the recently received bluray of Machete but the movie won't play. It plays the warning about the disc being made with most updated version of bluray and plays the Twentieth Century Fox logo/music, after that, just a blank screen. Restarting and reseating the disc has not helped. All other functions, streaming Netflix, YouTube etc work fine.
