Not one drop with newest Narnia movie. Looked and sounded great....

I have the 570 hooked up to a 55HX800. I decided it would be fun to learn some videography with my 9 and 11 year old granddaughters. We will soon own a Panasonic HD camcorder that "does everything" and have no experience. The plan is to discover story telling with video together.

The plan is:
- Outline a story such as "A Day in the Life of Granny's Dog"
- Capture some video of the pet dog
- Edit on the Windows 7 computer
- Publish on a DVD for the S-570 and maybe even generic SD players.

The camcorder will store video on SD cards or connect to the computer with a wire. The software I have is Windows Live Movie Maker. Premier Elements 9 is also available. The TV and BD player don't appear to take SD cards.

Advice on a simplified track of media and formats to limit grandfather and granddaughter confusion would be appreciated. At first I want us to focus on story telling and not get bogged down in tech issues. In other words, considering the capabilities of the S-570, is there a best or common format to start with, edit in and send to DVD?

Thanks!

Bill

Hello - I have a recently purchased the BDP-s570 blu-ray device. It plays the following internet services well:

netflix
youtube
amazon
hulu plus (don't have account but still have access to the login screen)
qriocity
pandora
the other radio station

However, when i try to access every other internet enabled item, i get an error saying "a network error has occurred". This occurs with every other internet item, including:

dailymotion
blip
michael jackson videos
etc.

Could you please help me with this? I have the blu-ray player connected via wireless, and as mentioned above it works for some items and not others, so it can’t be the internet connection. I am able to connect to the unavailable internet items on my computer (such as dailymotion.com) so I don't think it is a problem with accessing these items using my router. i have updated the firmware. i have reset my router and I still cannot access these items. The product is registered under my account.

Thank you,
Paul

I just tried Dailymotion for the first time and it failed. I've been listening to Pandora for the last hour, so it's not a network issue. Some of those items have been there since day one. I wish we could trim the list, but that's not an option.

Try tomorrow. Or assume Sony hasn't paid the supplier and they cut off our service. There has been talk here about Sony being a stopover point for some content. There may be something to that.

Joe - thank you for your quick reply. I understand what you're saying in your post, but would this also explain why "search internet video" is not available (same error message) as well as the michael jackson videos (i believe these are done by Sony), the Sony Digital Cinema Concert Series, and the "Inside Sony Pictures"?

I think your answer can explain the dailymotion and blip.tv, but i don't know if it explains the items that aren't connected with any internet 3rd party directly (search internet videos) and the other items that are directly from Sony themselves.

If you could let me know what you think about this, that would be great. Again, thanks for your previous response...I'm only trying to make sure I am not missing anything before writing these sites off (i was a fan of Michael Jackson and he had some cool videos, so this would be neat on the TV. I also want to try the other ones as well).

Thanks again,

Paul

Since the Michael Jackson & Sony site worked for me, I would wonder if your DNS server is ok. My DNS is set to auto and the ip address is my router which probably reaches out to my ISP via cable modem. I have seen others use Google or some other fixed address. My router uses DHCP but I have reservations for all (5) devices I own. The S570 has a fixed IP address. I also use WPA/WPA2-PSK security. Any or none of these could be a factor. My best guess.

I don't have the equipment to verify your statement about not needing Sony's (proxy?) servers to access sites. You could kill some time and call Sony support, but that might not be productive.

Dailymotion also fails on my Sony TV (also WiFi). The two units have virtually the same XBR contents.

Although I couldn't find anything I was interested in watching on blip.tv, it did work for me. The MJ channel also worked. I got the network error on Dailymotion. For the record, I havn't updated to the latest firmware because so many people had trouble with it. I'm still on firmware version M04.R.708.

thanks guys for your responses. i have since tested it with the ethernet cable and it didn't work. i turned off the security with the wireless and it didn't work. i have setup my router with a specific primary and secondary DNS server in order to get Amazon on demand and netflix to work. They work well and did not work without this workaround. therefore, i don't want to change that. If in your opinion this is possibly the culprit, is there a workaround i can do on the blu-ray player to workaround this? Thanks again.

Since that specific DNS server works with your computer, I can't think of any change to the S570 that will help.

"i have setup my router with a specific primary and secondary DNS server in order to get Amazon on demand and netflix to work."

While that may work at some level you should not have to do so. Something is amiss in your setup. Whatever that is, that is probably what is making it so your 570 won't connect.
thanks guys for your help. i do believe that it is the DNS server creating this issue. I switched the specific DNS server off of my router, and those sites worked fine. However, without the DNS server entered, i do not have access to netflix (most important) as well as amazon on demand. I am now in communication with someone locally that is trying to help me with this.

The replies to my post here were very helpful in pointing me in this direction. Thanks!

I have the BDP-S570 and use my home computer to stream. In the Sony XMB that shows photos, music, videos - I have my computer listed in the photo and the video but not the music. I can stream photos and videos but since I do not have the logo under the music, I cannot stream music.

I have tried to erase servers and researching and that did not work. Does anyone have an idea of why my computer for streaming will show up under photo and video but not music?

Thanks,

What format is your music stored in?

Thanks,

What version of windows? With XP you might need WMP running to access the stored media. With WMC and Win7 that isn't needed.
You would think that I would list that information, but I didn't.

I am using Windows 7 with Windows Media. I am using mp3's.

It has worked in the past but lately, nothing I do can bring up the logo under the music.

Thanks,
Make sure that Music is checked in WMP/Media Sharing/Settings.

Thanks,

This is a strange one. With Win7, I used WMP to load all my disks, and the disks all show LPCM. On my XP system they are all downloads from Amazon and show as MP3. You've passed my level of help. I hope smarter minds can help you.

For some reason my player won't play the District 9 blu-ray disc. It will get to the loading screen and then go blank. If I press
play there will be a title and a 34 second display bar. I updated the firmware
wirelessly last month. I wonder if this is a glitch with the last update? Strangely I also got a gracenote check that popped up as well. My wifi is not hooked up at the moment.

Trying changing your storage from internal to rear USB (don't plug anything into it).

When using the Netflix app and attempting to watch any of the 4 Tekwar movies the the selection process goes [Instant Que>Tekwar>See All Seasons>Tekwar>See All Seasons>Tekwar etc..].
Before I call up tech support I'm curious as to if anyone else is having that issue. I'm not even sure who to report the problem to, would that be a Netflix or Sony issue?
I turned on my sony today, and noticed the netflix interface has changed, has anyone else noticed this? I have categories and a few other things.

I mainly came back to the thready to ask if anyone found a work around for the broken bdlive toggle in the latest firmware. other then disconnecting the player from the network. I've checked a few times on sony's site, and just turning on the player, and haven't seen any updates yet to address the issue. Anyone have feedback?

Thanks

MacinMan, we do have the new Netflix interface. Hopefully they'll add 5.1 audio and include subtitles next.

I think the workaround most people use for the bdlive problem is telling it to use the external memory and then they don't plug a USB drive in the port.

Ok, I was just checking, as far as my solution to BDLive personally, I got my magnavox profile 1.1. player back from my mom, and gave her my panasonic from 2009, since she will mainly use it for dvds, and the occasional BD, she has no reason to connect it to the network, and will most likely not hit any issues. I basically have just dedicated the magnavox to BD playback since it's so stable, and the sony to streaming, when I want to watch something online. This is the bedroom setup. For the living room, i use my panasonic DMP-BD85 for both BD and streaming, since it's a more solid player.

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum and was wondering if anyone could give me some insight about my Sony BDP-S570 Player. What I am trying to accomplish, is to play some MKV files off a USB drive. I recently converted a bunch of my son's cartoons from his DVD's to MKV (because I read that's what this player recognizes). I have an iMac and used Handbrake. I then copied these files onto a USB drive and plugged them into the Sony. The player recognizes the files but when I select one to play, some numbers flash on the upper right hand side of the screen and the picture turns black and freezes! When I hit the blue button it takes me back to the blu-ray menu. Now, I have a few other video files (.avi, .mpeg) that I converted via Handbrake to .mkv and the Sony player recognizes AND plays these files. I'm wondering if something happened during the encode process from the DVD to .mkv? These are Curious George cartoons, are around 15 min. long apiece and range from 90-120 MB in size. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey guys, in addition to the BDLive problem (which isn't a serious gripe for me) Gracenote seems broken now. when i stop playback the cover art for the movie doesn't show up, when I click options and choose information display, I receive a message stating that the information can't be retrieved from gracenot. This happens for multiple discs, other internet functions work such as streaming, firmware update chlecks, etc.

Anyone got any ideas? this is getting annoying, some of the features about this player, i actually liked, no longer seem to work.

If someone has a solution, please speak up. BTW I've reset the player to factory defaults, and initialized the personal data, and erased BD live data without resolve.

its been about 5-6 days since i've been able to get anything from gracenote. problems with crackle not playing after 1st advertisement and still the netflix infinite loop problem... seems a FW update might be in order here.

Hello everyone, just ordered the S570, now awaiting for the product's delivery.

One question. I'm willing to watch Youtube videos on it. Will it play the HD videos from Youtube as well in HD?

Thanks

I believe it can, although as far as I can tell, it doesn't actually tell you what the quality is. I've also noticed that not all youtube videos are available on the S570, probably depending on the settings selected by the video uploader.

Yes, I've read that not all videos are available. I believe it's something to do with what exactly resolution from Youtube S570 can and will handle. That would be sweet if it can actually deal with HD ones from Youtube at full resolution.
