When steaming a movie on the player you get stops "loading" Then it says Network is down when its not. Smart phone, tablets, Laptop, HCPC all work just fine. Just not netflix. Movie always stops at least once or stalls for a moment.

Really spoiling the movie experience.

I have been having problems the last month or so although the last couple of days I had no problems. Most of the rebuffering occurred while streaming "The Tudors". It would get so bad that I would have to switch to Amazon Prime to finish watching the episode.

Last night netflix was fine. Tonight it buffers more than plays. Must be all those newspeople in NH.

I have tried at different times of the day no luck.

No biggie to me but for when the kids watch a movie it's alway "Daddy the movie stopped again".

I had no problems streaming last night but the buffering issue is a problem 3 out of 4 days. Netflix says it is cox Cable, Cox says there is nothing wrong. Sony blames Netflix. I have to think the problem is with the Sony however. Some people do not have an issue, maybe because they have a higher internet speed? I have a 20mg and that should be more then fine according to Netflix.
I wish Sony would address this issue once and for all.

Having a 20 Mbps means nothing if the actual bitrate that reaches the player is much lower. If you are using wireless, chances are you are not getting the performance you need. The S570 has a very poor wireless reception. Try to put the player close to the router/modem and see if the breakups are still there.

You need a minimum of 6 Mbps reaching the player and STABLE,SUSTAINABLE connection to avoid interruptions watching HD. With 20 Mbps it sounds easy but it is not always the case with wireless.

A long cat5/6 cable can be used to link the player to the router , just to eliminate any possible wireless performance problem.

I have a 24 Mbps U-Verse internet and the player is less than 30 feet away from the router. Using wireless I can't watch anything in HD. I now have everything hard-wired and never had breakups.

Has anyone seen this before?

I remuxed a .mkv file to .m2ts with tsmuxer and streamed it from my WMC to the Sony BDP-S570.

The video plays great on my ps3 and PC, but when I play it on the Sony it does this.

Imagine a full screen, split into two halves. You're looking at the left half of the screen centered on the screen.

Thoughts?

I actually did hardwire it in after finding out how bad the wireless is. I have done sppedtests and i am getting anywhere from 20-25mbs.

How is Amazon Vod in HD ?
I just purchased a Samsung LED-LCD display (UN60D7000) which is 3D capable. I've never tried the 3D output from the S570 before, but I've read here about problems with certain 3D displays. Will the player work with this display?

Does anyone know if/when Netflix will provide DD 5.1 to the BDP-BX57/570?

We used to watch Netflix via my son's PS3 (now moved to his room), and the BX57 replaced it for BR and Netflix viewing. Missing the DD 5.1 that Netflix provided to the PS3...

Thanks!

Gator,

There used to be talk about Netfix starting tests for other platforms years ago. I gave up and never joined Neflix!

Just guessing, maybe someone within Netflix might be able to provide an answer to your question.

Buy a Roku2. Inexpensive device that streams Netflix in 5.1 DD. I have a 570 but prefer the interface on the Roku2 hands down and it streams in 5.1. Still use the 570 for my blu ray viewing. Why wait for a product that may NEVER stream Netflix in 5.1 DD. JMO.

+1

Chances are slim to none a new feature like that will be added to this model now 2 generations old.

FWIW Panasonic also does NF in 5.1 and has a much better interface than Sony.

I'm curious as to what people with Plasmas do when watching widescreen DVDs. Is there some way to, for instance, change the color of the top/bottom bars coming from the Sony player from black to gray to mitigate the contrast and help prevent burn-in? I did not see an obvious setting for this, and for obvious reasons am not particularly interested in zooming the aspect ratio to Pan and Scan just to fill the screen. Or should I just buy a different device to help with this issue?

I have a plasma and while I might see a shadow of the letterbox bars for a minute or two after I switch back to full screen programming, it goes away fast. Unless you're going to watch ONLY letterboxed movies or your plasma is extremely susceptible to burn in, I don't think it's an issue.

DMP-BDT110, 210 and 310, and probably upcoming 220 and 320. The 210 and 310 are wifi like your BX57. Avoid the panny BD75. Roku2 as mentioned before is also a good option.

Thank you Dave. I'm only developing a sense of what is acceptable and what isn't. I broke it in for over 100 hours, but will just stay careful for awhile. It's a new Panasonic GT30. I know there is a difference between transient and permanent retention, and don't want to cross that line. Fortunately, I only get discs in the mail every so often, so I probably won't be doing as much of that kind of viewing as others.

Is the Roku2 better than AppleTV 2?
Sorry but I don't know much about either. I only have the panny. I've used the others a bit but not enough to make any judgements. All I know is Roku has a ton of content and is quite cheap.

Cant speak for apple tv. If you live in an apple world then apple tv might be for you. I own a ROKU2 and I absolutley love it. Roku is the original netflix streaming device. CNET did a comparison on their show prizefight and gave the edge to the ROKU. I dont remeber all the criteria for it i.e content, 1080p 720p, connections, usb compatibility, yada blah blah. Do a little research on the net and I am sure you find your answer.

+1 for the Roku 2. Just grabbed one last week for Amazon Prime streaming after the missus expressed her distaste with the S570's interface. Roku's interface and performance are significantly better than on the S570. Well designed little device.

Costco has the top of the line XS model for $79.99 with an HDMI cable and 2 month Hulu subscription included if anyone is on the fence and is near a store.

This bluray player is capable with 24fps and so is my tv, it works great with my HTPC. In the settings for 24fps you have a choice of auto or off. On auto it never uses 24fps. Evey bluray I have tried is shown at 60fps according to the details display on the bluray player. I don't have a clue as to what to look for.

The Sony BDP-BX57 goes through my Onkyo TX-NR509. My tv is a Vizio SV470XVT (1080p / 120hz).

Suggestions?

It is the correct thread for the BX57/S570. Ever get an answer to the thread you started with:

"I'm struggling to get 24fps to work through my Onkyo TX-NR509. When my HTPC was connected directly to the tv it worked great, now going through the receiver it doesn't. I would be fine with it only working with my bluray player but I'm questioning if the receiver even supports it."

I run my my S570 through a Yamaha RX-V867 and it will drop to 24fps if I set it to auto. However, I set it to not allow that since I watch movies on my tv and prefer 60fps. Just a personal preference.

Yes I did. I was told by several people that the Onkyo does not affect the video. 24fps is working fine with my HTPC now, yet it still doesn't seem to with the bluray. With it enabled it gives my movies a little more "depth", I guess that would best describe it. Is there any way of telling what blurays support 24fps?

I understand. But I turn off 24fps, so I would be a bad testing platform. I really like my S570 and feel fortunate to have it since Sony now has the S580.

If you mean content: Hanna for one. It flashes on my screen on startup and I can verify through my AVR.

Battle:LA also.
I have a Yamaha 861 which will pass 24p from my SONY 760 that can be set to 24p (forced). When I tried my SONY 770 (used for SACD) the only settings were off and auto and auto will not "turn on" 24p through the Yamaha. The 770 will put out 24p when connected directly to my PRO 111.

I guess since the Yamaha is an older model, the "auto" through HDMI does not recognize the 24p signal and therefore only passes 60p. I have no idea why the newer model SONY BD players dropped the forced 24p setting......not to mention the stupid 30 minute auto shutdown!

P.E.H.

I am hoping someone will be able to help me.

I purchased a S570 from the US (I am in Australia) with DVD free & Blue Ray chipped for region free.

I did one firmware upgrade no problem but on the last firmware upgrade (M04.R.787) I lost the ability to have region free bluray (it is now locked to Region A)

Has anyone else experienced this problem and secondly is it possible to go back to the previous firmware?

Cheers
IMO-try to find a "factory settings" tab in the menus or a "default settings" option on the menus. I have no idea if it will work to fix your firmware....but it just might

Best of luck!

I guess it depends if the S570 cares about "different" firmware or "latest" firmware. If you did all your updates via the internet you don't have the previous version (either do I). I do have the zip file for R.491 from 2010. Someone here may have a later version. Will it work? I don't know.

My Sony DVR only cares about "different". My Sony TV cares about "latest".
