Official Sony BDP-S570 Owners Thread - Page 128

i have a sony BDP-S570 model blu ray player, issue im having is when im fast forwarding a dvd or blu ray and then i hit play the screen freezes and everything is green, i tryed updating the firmware and even cleaned the lense with a maxell lens cleaning disk and im still having this issue, any ideas on whats going on? i have only had this unit for about a year and dont really use it alot..

During playback of mostly NetFlix disk the player is making a repetitive noise at disc rotation rate. The noise declines during the movie but never goes away.

Is there a way to adjust the focus/fine tracking offset of the pickup?

Any help is appreciated.

I need some feedback on my BDP-S570. As long as I've owned this player, i've had no problems with it. In fact, since the last firmware update that fixed BDLive issues, the player has been flawless. The issue I've been experiencing in the last few months at random times is when i play video from a usb device it will cause a random issue that will cause video to freeze at random times while audio plays normally. The pause is usually a second or two, and it carries over to discs, until i shut the power off and remove the usb device. The issue seems to stem from usb playback only, e.g. it doesn't come up when playing a disc by itself. Any feedback would be appreciated. I hadn't experienced this until after applying the last firmware update. I have switched HDMI cables/ports, and even put it on a different tv. This seem to be player specific, not connection/tv issues.

One more question, how do i get this player to play divx/xvid files? the manual says the formats are supported, and i have divx/xvid files i created for the panasonic player which will play these, so i know they are valid files as they play without problems.

I assume you have a European player if the manual says they're supported, in which case, divx should work fine. If you have a US player you simply need to rename them to .mkv. What DLNA server are you using?

Hi Dave, i have a us model but i downloaded the pdf user manual as i don't have the paper one anymore, and divx was mentioned there. I could try renaming the avi files to mkv some have the xvid code and others have the divx 5 codec. with ac3 audio. I was hoping to be able to come up with a format both the panasonic 85k and sony 570 will both play, but beyond DVDs/BDs, etc that doesn't seem to be possible.

It may still be possible, but I'm not smart enough to do it. I think it can be done in serviio if you set up the profiles correctly.

I think that reference in the manual applies only to those old divx encoded commercial DVD rentals. It won't recognize avi's but can be fooled into it by adding the .mkv extension, i.e., video1.avi.mkv. That may cause them not to work on panny, but I haven't tried lately. I haven't been able to get avi to play on any panny of the last 2 generations. So you have no path forward with panny when you 85 dies.

The US manual mentions Divx but there is a footnote : "Canadian models only". The video files support on the S570 is very poor, better use any other media player.

today i upgraded to the BDP-S590 seems like a nice upgrade from the 570
the lack of component video out is not an issue for me i use HDMI, and i still have optical out for the sound bar. I think the 570 was starting to fail, and it's out of warranty, it was having a lot of issues with stuttering video, and it wasn't playing over DLNA it was playing directly from a usb stick or Disc. Plus i noticed it was starting to get really hot.

Has anyone else here upgraded? I noticed the 590 will play xvid avis now from usb, the 570 didn't, i haven't tried ntfs support yet.

not that i'm aware of, but it has the front and back usb port. It also seems to have an option to convert 2D to 3D cause it says the option is off when i hit display. I would assume it's HDMI 4, but i wouldn't notice the difference i don't have a 3d tv or hdmi 4 input. I mainly like the sony's interface, and they seem to be solid players.

Hi tmaschm, the S590 has one HDMI output. You'll need to step up to the S790 for dual HDMI output.

My S570 has recently begun shutting down (randomly?) during playback. I know it affects blu-ray and Netflix, haven't tried other things. Sometimes it will play a full movie, other times it will shut down every 10 minutes. Sometimes it gives the option to resume playback, other times not. When it shuts down, it acts as though someone pressed power off - it says goodbye and everything. Tried unplugging and factory reset. I can't imagine that it is overheating; Its in a large rack with perforated shelves and doors.

Anyone have any ideas? It is more than a year old, so I'm sure its out of warranty.

Please don't tell me that I have to go back to my old panasonic - D4MN I hate that thing. It doesn't seem to have a hardware interrupt on eject; so it sometimes takes a couple of minutes to eject a disk - mind boggling and very annoying...

Sorry if this has been posted before. I'm afraid that i haven't read this whole thread, but I did a few searches and didn't find much.

thanks in advance!

I haven't had any problems like that with mine.

Btw if I have a 3D tv but a 1.3 AVR can I send audio to the AVR via optical and video to the TV over HDMI when watching a 3D blu ray???

Never tried 3D, but the audio from the optical output should be ok. There is a setup option for audio that could affect the type (LPCM/DD).

I was watching a Blu-Ray the other night and suddenly I lost video on my bdp-s570.
I decided to try to power off and on the player to see if that would help. The player kept flashing shutting down or something. Anyway I unplugged it and tried to start it up. Now it just flashes "WAIT".
I have left it for a good hour so I think I've waited long enough.
Any ideas what the problem may be and how it could be resolved. Sony said I should send it in, but its out of warranty so its probably cheaper to buy a new one :-(

My S570 developed problems a few weeks ago. What do they all have a built in timer to stop working at the same time. Too many bad reports happening at around the same time into the products life.

In other words, we will read the same script that we read to everyone that calls in, with no real answers as to why your unit died, other, than you have you pulling hairs out of your head, and flapping your arms in the air, while trying to get the phone drone to understand that their script is not going to fix the device, nor are they able to give a real solution why the hardware failed.

It is called a robot response. The person posting as "Amanda" is nothing other than how their scripts read. No real solution or answers, but we will continue to repeat the same thing, hoping that you will just get frustrated and go out and spend money on more with our name on it, and be satisfied that we give no solution to your questions.

Having issues with mine as well now. The disc tray simply won't eject. I don't even recall the last time I used it but I do know I haven't used it much in the 2 years or whatever that I've owned it. Not impressed with the quality.

Electronic & mechanical devices will break. There is no known time frame when or how a device will stop working. Could be one day, could be day 500, could last for over five or ten years.

There is basically no magical formula or way that some one person can tell you. Two years is about average, and at that point, companies have figured that you have gotten your monies worth out of it, and within that time frame, you will either upgrade to a newer unit, or if the unit is still working, keep on using it, or replace with a newer unit, and hand it down to someone else.

My S570 motor starting to get louder and louder. Used to be completely quiet. Have to be by it and it doesn't interfere with movies quiet parts yet. But clearly making noise when it never did.

Funny you should mention that. I just noticed the same thing about mine. Perhaps it is time for me to purchase an Oppo.

I thought i'd come back and report, after owning a BDP-S590 for about a month I decided to buy a second one for the living room. Over the 570, these units have a lot of nice features that were a major complaint for this older player.

DLNA support works better, and has more choices of server software that works. In fact, everything I've used, with the exception of my older server i had purchased for the 570 work pretty flawlessly.
24p for DVDs is now a separate option from BD, so the issues with DVDs forced into 24p causing dropouts is gone.
Netflix has the current up to date interface.. (moot point for me)

My 570 still works and it's about 2 and a half years old now, so i still use it as a back up player.
I had originally put it up for donation to the apartment complex for the clubhouse and the public tv, but the manager couldn't come up with a way to install it and guarantee it not be stolen, and she didn't want me to donate something so valuable to just have it stolen later. so i'm holding onto it until we can figure something out. If someone has any experience with installing a blu-ray player in public and putting safeguards into place to prevent theft, i'm all ears.
