Does anyone have this 570 connected to a Sony Receiver and still able to access the XMB screen???
I'd like to get a Netflix clarification from you folks.

I have the 570, wired to a Time Warner 'RoadRunner Turbo' connection. The TW test site in the 7:00-9:00pm time frame varies between 8-17Mbps, and averages in the 11 range (New England server). This should be high enough to stream HD without constant pausing for the video to 'catch up', should it not?

My issue is that the player oftentimes pauses nearly every minute, or so waiting for more content to download.

My observation is that the stream is very carefully managed, in that the download is not 'allowed' to 'get ahead' during times of good network speed, and the result is that, during times of slow speed, it pauses... pauses.... pauses.

I have seen many references to choppy video. My observation is that, when it's actually playing the video quality is very nice... no complaints.

By choppy, I would refer to the constant pauses, due to over-running the stream. Is that the general sense... or does choppy refer to crappy quality?

For me, "choppy" video on Netflix material is mainly noticed in scenes where panning takes place. It appears that frames are dropped at about 1 second intervals. The problem isn't really noticable in scenes that do not involve camera panning. This is something different than the buffering problems (pauses) that others have experienced. I have never seen any buffering pauses.

This is the exact issue I am having as well. The one thing that confuses me is that I see the exact same issue when I use the Win7 Media Center plugin on 2 different PCs. This makes me think that the problem may not be Sony's fault. My internet connection is Comcasts 16/1 Blast plan, so raw speed should not be the problem. I've been monitoring some threads on this topic over at dslreports, com and they seem to suggest that it may be a routing problem and that packets are being lost at a congested node, but I haven't been able to confirm it for myself.

If anyone would like to check for this issue, add The Tudors Season 1 to your Watch Instantly list. The opening scene of Episode 1 is a long shot of a carriage crossing a cobblestone courtyard and it drops frames like crazy.

New Firmware released last night! Just installed it and now i see tons of 3D options and a server section but still no instructions for how to serve content through a PC. Gotta head to work but thought I give a quick update.

I was told by Sony that there is a firmware update scheduled for July that is supposed to provide support for 3D functions, and also will provide support for logging into Picasa. Does anyone know whether the firmware update that just came out provides for a connection to Picasa?

Ok, that makes sense. I have not noticed this problem on the 570, only the buffering issues. Given that I have, perhaps, the fastest connection available in my area, I guess I'm hosed. I think I have exhausted my options with Time Warner. Perhaps I'll try Netflix next, because my contention is that I have plenty of connection speed.

Do we have any documented evidence that a different player resolves the buffering problems, in situations where the connection SHOULD be sufficient?

Anyone know how to setup the content streaming from a PC to the Player? I see there is a Server section now but no instructions on how to set it up....

I have this unit and am extremely satisfied with it. There is one minor issue I have contacted sony about as a bug report, It's no means a deal breaker though.

As far as streaming goes, I have this player connected to my airport extreme base station via 80211N 5ghz without a glitch.

Now for the issue:

When I have the 1080p/24 option set to auto I noticed a sync issue via HDMI. When the player changes modes i lose about 1 to 5 seconds of the beginning of the video start. I have confirmed it's HDMI only as i have the red/white stereo out plugs connected to my home theater in a box unit, and I hear the missing audio through that. I can solve this by turning off 24p support and forcing 60p and it's not a major loss.

However I have a panasonic plasma 42" this player is connected to. Model TC-P42U1 which does support 24p input.

To reproduce this issue
use a disney blu-ray make sure you tell it not to resume the movie if it ask so you can start fresh.
Make sure 24p out is set to auto. Watch the disney fireworks before the movie starts. When this issue happens to me it comes into the middle of the fireworks display. When i turn 24p off it plays the whole video from the beginning normally. Like I said it's not a deal breaker as I don't notice any difference forcing 60p but if it's a true bug it should be fixed. Anyway, I know the disney fireworks isn't anything to fret about, my point here is the glitch could happen on vital video depending the disc.

Anyone else having this issue?

Thanks

I thought 24 was only for TV's that can support 120mhz and up....since I have a samsung LN46A550 which only supports 60mhz.even if I have 24 enabled it doesnt do anything. As a matter of fact I do have 24 set to auto and I do loose video for 1 or 2 seconds but only when the TV is switching resolutions such as when a preview is in a lower res and then the main movie starts which is in full HD the TV goes blank for 2 seconds while it switches to the higher res.

Hey Ken, thanks for the feedback that's probably what's going on then as this plasma is rated at 600 hlrz and when i do watch video when it was auto it did display it was playing the movie in 1080p/24 so it's probably working and the resolution switch is causing the av via hdmi to fade out

My panasonic plasma is rated at 600 hzrz instead of the 120 you were talking about so it's faster, then I was agreeing with you saying that the few seconds of video i missed was probably while the tv changed resolutions to switch into 24p mode. When I hit the display button on the remote, the info says it's playing in 1080p/24p when auto is enabled. So based on what you said it looks like everything is working normally

Haven't done so myself, but saw the instructions earlier today on: internet.sony.tv/bravia
This was listed to the right of the Video section on the menu, Networking, under enable enhanced features.

The site has a plugin for IE and FF and instructions. Like I said, though, I haven't gone through this yet and may not since I hope to do this through DLNA.

Cannot seem to find or locate the instructions for connecting to a PC there. Can you be more specific on where you found the instructions?

If you like Soccer, there is a great new FIFA World Cup Collection available for streaming.

Both Netflix and Amazon seem to have a better picture now.

Ok, two things, My laptop is a macbook, there is a PS3 streaming server available for mac os x and a media streaming app that does UPNP will this player work with either one? also neither this sony or my panasonic DMP--BD601k will play music with slide shows? what am I doing wrong? the pictures play fine, I have also burned a couple of mp3's to the cd-r i have tried it via cd r usb stick and sd card (panasonic) with all the same results. any ideas? Does the sony require a separate disc for music for slides? thanks.

What software does sony support for streaming? I haven't had any luck with the player seeing itunes sharing my library nor did it recognize medialink which is a unpn media streaming server. I do have a copy of vmware fusion with a copy of windows xp professional installed. Ive read reviews for various players though where people have gotten itunes to work with the dlna features. Any ideas?

Thanks I i need to open a port for the player in my router which one is it?

I got media sharing to successfully work on windows 7 x64. I had to enable home groups, media streaming and then goto windows media player and share anything that I wanted to display on the BD player.

Not sure what to think of it yet because this media streaming this is a memory hog and I kinda liked what Samsung had as a stand alone streaming program which i can easily turn on and off.

How's the the quality of the streams? I have stayed away from samsung after i had both an HDTV/monitor and an HD monitor from them die within a year and 2 years of purchase I've never even had a cheaper name brand device fail that quick with normal use or even slightly heavier use.

Just another update on the Netflix streaming 'choppyness' and 'buffering' problems.

While watching Heroes in HD tonight, it paused, paused, paused every couple minutes to buffer the stream. I called Netflix. They indicated that you should only need 4-5Mbps in order to stream Hd content, but the speed has to be very consistent. I am certainly getting this. I asked if they could monitor the device and she said they cannot monitor Sony BD's.

Suggested I try to connect the BD directly to the cable modem, instead of the router (I am currently wired to my router).

I tried streaming to my computer, and have no issues whatsoever with buffering, but the 'choppyness' described by many became easily observable.

So, I get great picture (no choppyness) and constant buffering with the 570, and choppy picture, but no buffering via my computer.

Sheesh....

I have the same issue with Netflix on the Sony. Streaming to my computer doesn't exhibit the buffering problem. Today's firmware update does not help at all. I am on the verge of returning the player.

I tried Netflix streaming after the firmware update and I still see the "choppy" video problem. Amazon still works perfectly, as it always has.

Sony s570 was able to recognize playon server and i was able to browse content like hulu but when i tried to play videos, it gave error - "The file is corrupt or not recognized". Anybody else having the same problem?

I would gladly give up all the (IMHO) 'crap' they have added (How-to, golf stuff, livestrong, crackle, blip, michael jackson, etc) to get solid Netflix streaming.

I am thinking of trying another player.

Acutally now that you mentioned it I got the same error while view some personal videos from a digital camera that I was streaming. I have not tried streaming some of my higher quality content yet so not sure how it looks compared to the samsung I had before but the lower quality stuff didnt seem as good as samsung. There was much more noise and graininess...BTW has anyone noticed that the Sony player displays all content a bit darker?
I would go with the panasonic 65/85 if you want better netflix streaming.

I had the exact same problem. I couldn't get music to play and I believe the message was the same as yours. As far as my videos, when I got to the folder, it said something to the effect of "No playable content". I wonder if mts files from my Canon camera are not compatible with the Sony player...if so, what a deal-breaker!

Is this a HDMI 1.4a device?

Would it be possible for someone on this forum to take a minute and answer a couple of questions I posted previously (posts 414 and 426) in this forum? I know you have your own discussions going on, but if someone could just take a minute to answer what I think is a simple question for anyone who owns this player and got the recent update, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks.
