i've actually been trying to decide between the s570 and the lg bd570. so picture quality and load times are superior on the s570 in your opinion? what other concerns did you have in regards to the LG unit? any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Specifically how is the image superior?

One thing I did like about the LG was the wireless implementation. Everything I streamed was very stable and smooth.
The Blu-Ray playback was just very buggy. I also felt the picture was really dark out of the box, although I
didn't try any player settings. As far as load times, I had the LG, then the Panny which was a little slower
than the LG (IIRC), and the Sony is just way ahead in terms of speed.

I was all set to order the Samsung BD-C6500 but now I am strongly leaning toward the Sony BDP-S570.

Anyone consider the Samsung BD-C6500? And if so, what determining factor made you get (or want to get) the Sony BDP-S570?

I can't go into a lot of technical jargon, but out of the box I'm just seeing a lot more depth and clarity?
I see it mostly as an improvement in the detail in the darker areas of the picture, but when I put
in "Casino Royale" I also felt that the really bright scenes (eg. Bahamas) were clearer than I'd ever seen them.
Maybe the video settings Sony has used just work better for my display setup.
This obviously isn't a side by side comparison, so totally unscientific!

Just had my first minor glitch with the Sony's streaming.
I was testing a few BDs, (Transformers, Iron Man, Bug's Life) then went to stream an Amazon VOD movie in HD.
It buffered two or three times in about 10 minutes, then I powered down and back up, and everything is good again. Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come.

How does the PQ of the 470/570 compare to the old sony 350, BR and dvd. Just for that only, is it worth the price of a new player? Loading speed, 3D and net downloads mean nothing to me at this time, just PQ. Thanks.

I just purchases the 570 to replace my 350. I want to say the PQ is better, but it could be in my head. The AQ, however, is noticeably better.

How is the AQ better? Were/are you bitstreaming the lossless audio? There shouldn't be a difference. Are you internally decoding instead?

I bitstreamed the audio with both players. However, I was hearing things in a movie with the new player that I wasn't before. Maybe there was something with how the 350 passed the audio to the receiver that changed in the 570?

Bought the 570 at Best Buy yesterday to possibly replace my BD390. So far I'm liking it, but I'll have to give it a couple of weeks before I have a better idea. I love that the Wi-Fi can see my 5GHz band.

Is your display calibrated?

I am having similar issues with Netflix streaming. I started with 1.5 mg connection and a wireless G network. now, I have a 12mg connection with a wireless N network. I have noticed the quality of the picture to be drastically increased; however, it is very choppy, and very noticeable. Any ideas on that one?

The wireless signal is at around 94% usually.

can someone list the streaming services that come on the s570 out of the box? they are still advertising pandora but i've heard it isn't working on the currently shipped units. lots of confusion as many of the players were shipped without some of the advertised features! thanks.

Netflix HD material looks choppy to me, but the SD material is pretty smooth. I have a 10 Mb fiber internet connection with a wireless N router. Amazon's HD material looks and sounds much butter.

On my netflix streaming through windows media center, the choppiness is non-existant, and, my bro in law has netflix streaming (less connection and a G network) on a different player and it is smooth.

I updated the firmware; however, when I updated it, I had the 1.5 connection, not the 12mg connection.

I own the 370 sony blu ray player and I am also having a problem with the netflix. I have network g and also about 10 speed. its very choppy, jumpy. the amazon on demand works fine.. smooth as butter. I also have the ps3 and the roku machine and they also play fine.
I have been talking with sony all last week about it. if you are having a problem.. better to call them and tell them about it.. the more people report this problem the better it will be looked into and fixed hopefully.

I did update the firmware to the latest version on the day I bought the player (Friday, 3/5).

On the Sonystlyle.com web page for the 570, there are a number of footnotes listed. One of the footnotes says, "...Pandora will be available in the Spring of 2010. "

How do the PS3 compare to sony S570 Blu Ray for playing dvd's? (also Blu ray disc) Better, worse, etc. Which is the better buy?

I had another hiccup with the 570. Watching Harry Potter HBP, twice the movie started stuttering (almost like I hit pause and
slow advance, except the sound also stuttered). This would last for about 10 - 15 seconds, then started playing again normally.
This is the only disk that has had any problems at all. Anyone else have this movie on BD that can try it? The issue didn't happen
each time through the scenes. Still very happy with this player overall.

I've also had some trouble with Netflix streaming. With an old dlink di-624 router, the player would stop and actually have to be unplugged to work again. Replaced the router with a Belkin N+ from Costco, which worked better(now 86% signal strength), but still tends to drop the stream once in a while. It also seems to drop the link, showing a connection but no access. I think they need a firmware update soon.
On a positive note, I was shocked to find out that the S570 was completely compatible with a Panasonic TV(TC-S32S1) and Onkyo receiver(RC160) through HDMI CEC.

Which parts did it get funky on?

How good is the WiFi on this unit? I have my wireless modem in my home office on the first floor, while the theater is in the basement. Think the 570 will has an antenna with enough gain?

I rewound it to see if it would happen again and it didn't.
