With My experience with the 2010 models that incorporate 3D support, the whole 3D support issue seems to have introduced compatibility issues that 2009 models didn't have. One Example of which was the 24p auto setting with my panasonic plasma and the sonys, it would make the a/v cut out several seconds while switching, bought a panasonic DMP 85K and it's been fine, until the tv blew a cap in the power supply and no longer powers on the screen, at leat it's still under warranty though so geek squad is going to do panasonic's warranty work at my home.

Diehardfan,
Thank you. I suppose I could try the optical cable. However, if it still did it, I wouldn't know if it was the receiver or the Blu-ray. The video is not affected at all with this issue. There is an AV Synch feature with the 570 that I don't see any way to adjust. From the manual:

AV Synch:
Adjusts the gap between
picture and sound, by
delaying the sound output in
relation to the picture output
(0 to 120 milliseconds

This is the closest thing that I can see that affects this. But.... this delay is MUCH more than 120 milliseconds....

Hit the options button on the remote while a disc is playing the av sync settings are in that menu that pops up.

Perfect.... Thanks MacInMan.... I'll try that. This issue has all the appearances of a "feature" that is screwing things up....

Thanks,
Greg

You know Sony is planning a major firmware release for July, You might find when it's released it might fix some of these glitches as well as add other features etc. I had the same unit, but returned it for the panasonic, because the panasonic has better upconversion for standard dvds and it just feels more solid for a low budget player. Either way I am still watching this threat to see if people who have issues with this unit eventually get them resolved.

No prob. My point was that if it didnt do in Optical, you'd know it was strictly an HDMI issue plus it could be a workaround if you wanted to hold onto the BRP and wait for a firmware update that would hpefully fix the problem.

DieHardfan,

That's how i tracked my issue with the player and HDMI, I had the red and white analog out connected to my panasonic theater in a box receiver and when the tv would cut out I'd hear the missing audio from the external speakers, while the screen was black. It did this when i had 24p auto on when i turned it off it was fine, but this shouldn't have happened as the tv can accept a 24p signal.

(and yes I've tried both 2.4 and 5.8 bands) Meanwhile, my iPad streams netflix movies all day clear on the other side of my 3500 sq foot home! Since the wifi is so weak on this, the s370 is a much better deal if you don't need the 3D.

I just set up with a new Apple wireless extreme router and my 570 is working perfectly through 2 walls and 20 feet. I had to use the internal LAN setup, rather than my public Internet setup through the router.

I just took mine back to Costco, not playing .avi was a breaker for me, plus not being able to switch 4:3 into 16:9.

Got the LG BD570, so far so good. Saved $25 as well.

Yeah, sony doesn't pillarbox 4:3 dvds or content so it is stretched to fit. Also I believe the player needs DivX support to play Avi files. I know with me the sony would play my h.264 files mp4 and m4v files fine but with the panasonic i exchanged it for i convert them to .divx and they're just as good. haven't tried one as an avi file yet but the manaul says avi is supported for divx. I just did a test and renamed all my files that defaulted to .divx after conversion to .avi and they work perfectly.

Got this player a month ago, and didn't have a chance to test it out...After reading posts in this thread, gave it a try.. With the recent firmware update,
this player seems to only read .mp3,.mp4 files. DLNA doesnt work with Tversity (XP). Got Nero Media Home setup but still big big disappointment that this player cannot support WMV, AVI,DIVX,MKV DLNA is another big joke. Almost no video formats are recognized. Has anyone been able to get any of the above formats to work at all?

Not sure what you mean. Under Srceen Format there's two choices 1. original (default) this will stretch a 4:3 to wide screen or 2. Fixed aspect ratio which keeps a 4:3 in 4:3 mode. Is this what you're looking for?

When I had the player and was testing DLNA, sony themselves said only mp3 for audio and mpeg 2 were supported for streaming e.g. a .vob file for video

Many thanks. Your method was perfect. Now to print the manual.

You're welcome. FYI, I didn't get the solution from the manual. I used google and found someone in a forum who had same problem and the solution.

So.... Update on my audio drop problem.... I set AV Synch to zero tonight and watched a standard DVD.... same problem. I had about 8 audio drops for around 1-2 seconds each.

Back to scratching my head ......

Bluetooth interference

I was having problems with Pandora and Slacker dying due to loss of internet connection. Ran the network connectivity test, no problem connecting to the WLAN but internet failed. I am using 802.11G on Channel 6. Went to the DSL/modem router page and saw that wireless devices were not staying connected. Then I pulled my Jabra A320s Bluetooth USB dongle out of the PC and everything worked.

Bluetooth also uses the 2.4GHz band, so if you're having WiFi problems like not connecting to the internet, you might want to troubleshoot by shutting down all other sources of 2.4GHz communication. Wireless phones, Bluetooth, and other RF devices all use this band.

Of course this assumes you're trying WiFi at 2.4GHz not at 5GHz.

Finally my $.02 on streaming: if you want the best PQ for streamed Netflix, get a Roku. It works well even with low bandwidth internet pipes.

Just as a Swiss Army knife pliers won't work as well as a dedicated pair of pliers, so too a multipurpose box will disappoint you with something that is not its main function. I got my S570 because I had very little space in my house for a lot of equipment and was willing to compromise some PQ for convenience. It took the place of a 5yr old Panny RP-62 which was a great DVD player. While I miss some of the features of the RP-62, I love the way Blu-Ray looks.

On your receiver: do any of the indicators for audio type change during the outage? I had a bad optical cable and I could see the Dolby indicator switch to Linear PCM during the short outage. It's just a shot in the dark, but it might help narrow down the problem.

Joe,
Thanks for this. I'll keep an eye on it. However, this also happens on standard DVD's without surround sound, so I think there is something else going on.

I sprang for one of these when my Oppo 981HD died this weekend :-(

I'm confused on the video streaming from the network. I'm using WMP. Does using Nero provide greater flexibility? I have a number of mpgs, avis, vobs, .ts, mkv, you name it, and only a subset of the mpgs can be seen from the player. Using GSpot, I can't find any reason why some mpgs do not display. Reencoding is not worth the time and effort.

Also on streaming, is there any way to play a picture slideshow randomly? Sorted by filename is somewhat... limiting.
The manual that comes with is somewhat lacking. Is there a deeper treatment somewhere?

Where in the menu do I go to stream video/audio? I've updated to the most recent firmware, but I can't seem to find where the player will find my WMP on my PC to stream.

Thanks

Network Settings > Connection Server Settings
Options > Search, if I remember correctly.
You have to go into WMP options and share your media first, it should find your player (mine was listed as unknown device) and Allow sharing to it.
Even so, I had to turn Windows Firewall off in order for the player to find it.
Afterwards, I was able to turn it back on.

Thanks. This menu option for streaming seems to in a non-intuitive place, I'll give it a shot tonight.

I already have WMP all setup as I share to my media to my 360's and my UVerse boxes, so the player should find everything right away.

I have no problem steaming .AVI files encodeds as Mpeg4 via Win7/WMP12 via DLNA, same for HD m2ts files. Have not tried VOB or h.264 encoded avi yet.

The aspect ratio looks a tad distorted for every video I am playing over DLNA, but I have not had any format limitations yet.
Has anyone had success playing VOB files over DLNA? I have some DVD's that I ripped to my computer hard drive, VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS, and all. I can play them just fine from Windows Media Player, but I cannot get them to actually appear in my Win 7/WMP12 media library, and therefore I cannot get them to appear on the BD player. Any ideas? I assume only WMP12 is supported, and NOT Windows Media Center?

A new firmware update was released today, does anyone know what changed? I don't see Picasa yet, not sure if videos are now working with playon.

Well it still does not work with PS3 Media Server or tversity.

Has anybody with a 3d set tried a 3d Blu ray yet?

I've had no luck with Nero Media Home or Mezzmo either. I'm running XP. Will have to try a Win7/WMP12 box.

As per Sony's website, it has only improved HDMI connectivity

I need some help.

When watching a file that is on my Windows 7 PC from a backed up DVD TV show produced in 4:3, it is stretched to fill the screen on my Mitsubishi DLP.

It is not stretched when I put the DVD in the 570 and watch it that way.

It is not stretched when I watch the backed up file on my PC.

The file created is an 'm4v' file that I can stream to the 570 using Windows Media Player in Windows 7.

If I watch it on my PC using VLC or Windows Media Player it is not stretched.

Is there a setting on my 570 I am missing?
