When watching a file that is on my Windows 7 PC from a backed up DVD TV show produced in 4:3, it is stretched to fill the screen on my Mitsubishi DLP.

It is not stretched when I put the DVD in the 570 and watch it that way.

It is not stretched when I watch the backed up file on my PC.

The file created is an 'm4v' file that I can stream to the 570 using Windows Media Player in Windows 7.

If I watch it on my PC using VLC or Windows Media Player it is not stretched.

Is there a setting on my 570 I am missing?

Under Screen Settings on your bluray select Screen Format and then select "Original". I think this may be what your looking for.

I'm not home right now, but I believe I tried both settings available there with no luck.

I'll double check that when I get home today.

Thanks

Hope this wasn't the July update we were waiting for! I see nothing new, was hoping for more DLNA support.

Newb question on the DLNA...what do I need to do to my Windows 7 64 bit cpu to be able to see the files / stream them on my blu ray player? I understand it is limited on file formats at this time, and all of my .mkv's will not show up, but I have one or two mpeg4 videos I could test with.

Open control panel and choose "Network and Sharing Center" . On left side of window choose "Change advanced settings". Then look for "Media Streaming" and turn it on. That should about do it.

That was extremely easy, thanks so much!

I have it set like that and it is still stretched. I also did today's update before I tried it. I'm stumped.

Sorry, I thought you wanted it stretched. If you dont' then you need to select "Fixed" instead of "Original".

Thanks for hanging in there with me. I've now tried it both ways and no luck.

In the morning I'm going to transfer the file to another PC running PlayOn and connected to my DirecTV receiver to see if I can stream it that way correctly.

So far it shows in 4:3 everywhere except when streaming thru the 570...

I do not like 4:3 TV shows stretched....... (Or anything for that matter.)

The 570 in my home theater would be a lot more convenient than using the other PC for watching these files.

BTW - 16:9 programs are working just fine.

Has anyone tried updating the list of content by clicking on an icon say in video or music or photos etc and selecting update list using the options button? I noticed that will list new services. I don't have the player anymore to test for myself, but when I did, that worked sometimes to show new services.

Just tried that, and I don't notice any new choices.

Sorry, can't remember if your going thru a AVR or just straight to TV from Bluray. However, my guess is it's the AVR or Tv or combination of the two that you need to go over and check.

Oh well, it was worth a shot. I'm waiting for the next firmware update from panasonic myself, to add the coming soon services to vierracast and to fix a couple bugs i have not sure when theirs is due out. Actually what i need and like is in vierra cast already but some of the advertised upcoming stuff looks interesting. You know in comparison to the 570 from sony and it's features panasonic is advertising skype and they're also advertising a camera you can buy that will plug into any vieracast compatible device's usb port to make video calls. So that should be interesting when it comes.

I can't wait to dump my cable. I just need a service to get Disney programs for the kids. Right now, the Disney programs are on Netflix, but with the kerfuffle they've been having with Disney over Starz and separate licensing, I would expect Disney to dump Netflix and move to Hulu Plus, which they part-own.

Hulu Plus is testing by invitation only, on Sony Bravia TVs and BR players. I would expect it to be added via firmware update in the not-too-distant future.

Anyone have any insights, inside knowledge, or comments on that??

I'm hooked direct with hdmi. Not thru my AVR.

Remember, when I put the DVD in the 570 it plays normally (4:3).

Hi guys. Newbie to forum. I'm thinking of getting one of these blu ray's

I'm already streaming AAC music just fine using Eyeconnect to my Integra surround receiver, and I'm hoping to do the same with MKV's, H264 mp4's and finally eyetv recorded content to the Sony Blu Ray.

Can anyone confirm this works OK. I have a recent iMac, airport extreme router and hardwired Cat6 gigbit set up..

Thx

I just tried playing the file using PlayOn through my DirecTV receiver and it was not stretched!

So - the S570 is the only device I have that stretches 4:3 content. I may call Sony tech support. I would rather watch it through the S570 than PlayOn.

Any more ideas?

How do you play videos from a networked PC? I can't find this feature from the menu

See post #695 in this thread.

Then find the name of your PC in the 'videos' menu on your 570. If it's not there, then hit 'options' on your remote and have your 570 search for it.

I'm running W7, and that's how I enabled it.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. I don't see my PC in the list. Where should I be to hit "Options"? Options give me "Update list", "Add to favorite", ... and no place to search.

From my PC I can see the BD disc player

Try this from the menu:

Under 'Setup':

Network Settings
Connection Server Settings
(The list may or may not be empty)
Press 'Options' on your remote
Choose 'Update Server List'
Press 'Return' on your remote when it's done searching

You should now have your PC listed under 'Music', 'Photos' and 'Video'.

Thanks for your help. I got it. It was the settings in my PC that gave me the problem. post #695 was not enough.

Where to put the files in the PC so the blu-ray player can see them is still a mystery to me. Does everything have to be in the Windows Media Player library to be seen?

That should do it as long as you have sharing enabled as well.

How is the upscaling on this player?

Is there special requirements to play mp3?I can't play them from cdr, USB or streaming

I'm trying to connect the 570 to an iMac media server. I've installed XBMC on the iMac and the 570 doesn't see it. I did try Options/Scan for server. Nothing. Anyone got any eperience with Mac and/or XBMC, which seems to be a great looking player.

I'm a newbie to this forum. I have a strong technical background as I am a network administrator for a law firm. I've had my sony for nearly 5 months now. I bought this particular model due to its wifi and dlna capabilities. I have a NAS which supports dlna. I can get my bluray player to see it and I can play music and look at pictures just fine but I cannot play videos of any file type. Every folder I go into on the player the player says there are no playable videos. I think I've done everything right and I've tried every single video type so it has to be an issue with the player. Anyone been able to play video files successfully via dlna?
