Interesting day yesterday with the Geth Infiltrator. I didn't do Silver because I'm new and still hitting Engineer power buttons by reflex and getting bad results. My one Silver run with the GE was OK, but I screwed up the extraction by turning and fighting instead of running. With no turret and no Overload, the Infiltrator will RUN in those situations. If ONLY I could remap the power buttons, so when I try to hit Overload I'd get the Proximity Mine.

Black Widow showed me that my lack of success with some guns is some sort of oddity of the game. BUNCHES of times I'd put three in the chest of a mid-level Geth and he'd just laugh them off. Only by having used the respec card to put a few points into the Proximity Mine did I have any chance with them, and even that tended to be a joke when it often did no damage either. This whole random-invulnerability thing bugs me, though. I don't need life-lessons about some enemies you aren't supposed to kill, I want holes drilled through ALL the ones I shoot at.

Only killed one Banshee with the BW, and she had been softened up quite a bit. The rest were with the Geth SMG. Had to use the Ultralight mod so that my cooldown wasn't negative, but even without the Barrel mod it still kills well. I now like the openness of Firebase Hydra, since the the extraction zone makes an excellent place from which to shoot. I started to get the cloak-fire-recloak thing down, and if I get lighter guns later it will get easier. Took down several Atlases that way.

The cloak also helps with the activate-this objectives, but in almost every game I was beaten to them by non-cloaked players and I asked myself, where WERE these people when my GE was dying because I had to do them solo? Rescue missions were much easier, although just like with the Salarian if I didn't cloak soon enough they still acted like I was quite visible. Didn't find a need to do any sneak attacks with the rocket launcher against any mob (this IS Bronze I'm talking about) but I'm thinking about it for later.

I had noticed that I'd seen the little speaker in the Lobby flashing for some people but wasn't hearing anything, and a voice message was silent, so I finally checked and found my headset had lost the speaker. Mixing the chat sound into the TV was hit and miss due to low volume from some people so I dug around and found my original Xbox headset and it works. Not exactly comfortable with its over-the-ears design, but it was free.

My sweepstakes hobby netted me a 12-month LIVE card. All-in-all not a bad day...

NEW CHARACTERS

Vorcha Soldier
Thanks to their unique physiology and their Bloodlust ability, the Vorcha are joining the fight and are perfectly suited for the utilitarian soldier kit.

The innate aggressiveness found within the Vorcha make them shockingly durable combatants, and when coupled with their Flamer skill, the Vorcha sentinel is a force to be reckoned with.

Male Quarian Engineer
Quarians have spent centuries at perpetual salvage and ship repair; the survival of their species depends on this technical expertise. When bringing the new Arc Grenade to the fray, the Quarians prove their prowess as effective engineers on the battlefield.

The Male Quarian Infiltrator must actively rely on stealth while in the heat of battle, and when they make use of their Tactical Scan ability, they quickly prove their mettle while continuously dishing out the pain.

Ex-Cerberus Vanguard

Firebase Jade - Surrounded by huge waterfalls, Firebase Jade overlooks an ancient reservoir built by the salarians centuries ago. Set up strategic chokepoints inside the base’s main buildings to get the jump on your enemy, and work with your team to meticulously clear each room to achieve victory.

Firebase Goddess - Nestled in the epicenter of a Thessian metropolis, Firebase Goddess is one of the last strongholds of asari resistance against the Reapers. With its circular layout, Firebase Goddess is a tough location to control. This arena combines heavy cover and elevated firing positions, so stay light on your feet.

NEW WEAPONS

Cerberus Harrier Assault Rifle - These Cerberus-modified Mattock rifles are fully automatic. Cerberus gunsmiths reined in the recoil issues, resulting in a gun that stay on target, but delivers slightly less punch per round than a standard Mattock. As such, the weapon is typically utilized by Cerberus’ elite troopers, who train constantly to make every burst count.

Reegar Carbine Shotgun - This electrical weapon improves upon the arc pistol’s design by generating a sustained current on its target. This weapon is named for the Quarian Reegar family, whose marines have served valiantly against the Geth.

Krysae Sniper Rifle - This Turian antimaterial rifle is modified to kill Reaper enemies. The Krysae’s scope uses a rangefinder that adjusts to keep the target in proper proportion to the shooter, which comes in useful when the sniper is forced into close range. Its specialized ammunition is both armor-piercing and explosive. In a desperate move, the Turians released its specifications over the extranet so that nearly anyone with a fabricator could manufacture this weapon to help the war effort.

Awesome that they are offering this free as well! I haven't been playing much MP lately though with Diablo 3 taking up most of my free time, but this will definitely get me back into the game.

I'm kind of miffed that I haven't been able to unlock any Geth or Krogan characters yet. I haven't quite gotten the hang of Silver matches to earn enough credits for the Specter packs.

-New In-Mission Objective – Randomly occurring during waves 3, 6 and 10, this new objective will demand that teams retrieve a high priority package and securely escort it to a designated extraction zone on each map.

-New Gear Slot – A new slot will be available on the equipment screen, offering players a persistent gameplay bonus that will not expire after the end of a match. These new items will vary from weapon upgrades to character enhancements and will be available through reinforcement packs.

Hmmm, may have to put Diablo 3 away for awhile and get back into this again, especially with the new classes.

I'd like a shield-tripler. No, wait, DOUBLE-tripler...

Played a couple of Silver games with a friend last night: survived both, was sole survivor in one. Dissatisfaction with how the BW and my new Javelin worked in my untrained hands led to a suggestion to try the Valiant and it's now what I'll be carrying. All of them are at the lowest level, but for the kind of sniper work I'll be doing the Valiant seems the best choice. After I snipe what's available in the open and start walking around, I switch to the Geth SMG. Something about either my current configuration (3 respec cards so far) or an enemy change has left me putting plenty of SMG fire into some enemies while they ignore it, but not all of them remain standing so it's still great. Meanwhile my from-the-hip sniper accuracy is incredibly poor, so none of them is a good choice for wandering around.

If I didn't usually need more gel than the 5 I can now carry, I'd be set...

Valiant is easy mode. Three shots, good power great head shot damage. Terrible hip fire, though.

Btw my wife is starting to get into me so don't be alarmed if you see her in one of our games :-)

Something else you might want to try is ditching the sniper all together and rolling a Geth Plasma Shottie instead and focus on spamming prox mine.

On an unrelated note, set a personal gold speed record last night. 13mins 8secs to clear Condor/Cerberus/Gold. Was a lvl7 SI. Can I get a cool story bro?

VERY cool.

Geth shotgun gave me the same poor results as plenty of non-SMG guns: I'd have the target centered in the circle, pull the trigger, and nothing died or seemed to get hurt much. Even charged shots didn't kill some low-level guys. I did manage to down a Banshee when she forgot to hit me when I was within arms reach, but other people were shooting too so she was distracted. Until it gets to X I don't plan on trying again.

I had a bad experience. Well, I guess other people apparently have had bad experiences with me all along but didn't complain. See, I was having connection issues where the walls were moving and I couldn't walk straight, and again I had enemies sucking up SMG fire and not dying, and I was complaining about it out loud. So this guy, who had been silent so far, piped up with "Gee, you whine a lot". I replied in the affirmative, and he came up with "I had a co-worker like you. I didn't like him either." So now I knew how the rest of the conversation was going to go: nothing I said would matter, he would be completely right, blah blah blah. Comments to the affect that I was actually missing all my targets and THAT was why they weren't dying. So I wrapped up the game without risking my LIVE account and he was very happy once more. Me, I'm thinking that someone who says NOTHING but is wearing a mic can easily take it off if he isn't amused. I just wish there was a way to mute people in-game, so he'd turn me off rather than be a dick. I'm not a dick, I'm just annoying...

I went out for dinner since I still had birthday offers to use up, and came to a realization while driving around: when I was an Engineer and I had no trouble knocking down everybody with the Geth SMG, I was also tossing out Overload at everybody. Maybe these really tough guys had always been tough, but Overload had made them softer.

So I put Ragnarok the Infiltrator away and pulled out Legion again, and had absolutely no difficulties with anybody, once I got the buttons straight. Even had my first Banshee kill inside a Geth game. Also carried the Valiant, which did put a serious crimp in my Overload tossing, but it was OK as long as I was careful. My one Prime kill was with the Valiant.

So now I have to revisit my lack of Silver success with Legion, and figure out how to MAKE him do better. Ragnarok showed me the benefits of starting out way far from the enemy then moving in, so maybe if I can stick with that I'll be OK. I'll miss just walking by enemies while cloaked, but the whole thing about no shield regeneration until I uncloak is just not healthy...

When I play Engineer, I max out the cooldown bonus via lightweight weapons. I then spam away overload or incinerate (depending on which character), firing one or two shots via a pistol between cooldowns.

Exactly: mine was 3 seconds of SMG fire. That had been working great in Bronze, but I kept getting knocked down anyplace else. That's why I thought stealth was going to help. Turns out, weak players need strong powers, so I have to stick with one that can soften up what's in front of me.

Valiant leaves me at +82% cooldown, if I put the ultralight mod in the SMG and that still kills any big thing as needed. What I like about the Valiant is killing Guardians with headshots, but it's not like I score them at will. It's the weak player thing, but I'll keep at it...

Grrrr! I'm locking up at least once a night and its driving me nuts. Clearing the cache didn't help. Last night it happened on the extraction wave of a successful 3 man gold mission with Zath and Smokie. I ragequit after that.

You could always try formatting the hard drive and reinstalling from scratch. Just don't forget to save all your gamesaves .

Clearing cache usually helps. I also found myself freezing in BF3 on one particular map. I deleted a few GB worth of game installs and now it doesn't freeze except once in a long while. Maybe give that a try? I had under 1GB of space free when it was happening to me. Freeing up to 10GB made a huge difference (on a 120GB drive)

The game glitches and eventually freezes every couple hours when I play on the PS3. Same happens on my friends PS3. So we have to quit/restart the game every 4 matches. Only happens on multiplayer.

Salarian Engineer remains my favorite. Kinda useless on Bronze but awesome on Silver. Throw a decoy at a chokepoint, then sit back for 20 seconds of Incinerate/Phalanx spam. It's a thing of beauty when my squadmates catch on that a Banshee and Brute are both intensely fixated on my decoy, and down them both in seconds. Support/power spammer is perfect for me since I can't shoot straight for ****.

Glad this challenge was easy, don't think I'll be making more Gold runs for a while...

I love that we can get our X-rays as digital files to take home now. I have some of my foot.

Grabbing a rebound and hit another person's arm or something, even heard the pop.

Had an odd one today. Tried to join a game and got a popup that said I needed to get an update so I'd be at the same version level of ME3 as the friend who invited me. He later said he'd had no update and the message never surfaced again. Strange.

Got the Geth SMG up to X, but cooldown only improved by 1% so I'm going to use a respec card to lower the weight of my Valiant. That sacrifices extra damage, but I'm having way too many moments where Overload would be a real benefit and I can't do it. The Valiant plus the penetration mod is just WAY too good to think about trading it for another weapon: it's fun experimenting to see which walls are thin enough to shoot through. I've spent about 24 games this past weekend not using the SMG at all, but I've required many revivals due to bad close-quarters aiming. I am the epitome of a damage sponge...

Mike, if you're using a get character, go for heavy melee. Very powerful and hits in all directions.

I'll take a shot at it. Light melee never impressed me, but I'm more of a tapper than a holder when it comes to anything but the trigger...
