Thanks for the info - my political sensibilities certainly won't be offended - but Jay's show is usually past my bedtime tongue.gif I'll try to stay awake for TO!

Yeah, when I was watching this week's episode last night, it was a struggle to tell who the players were without a scorecard.

I loved the crooked lawyer's moronic but murderous henchman who cut off Josiah's foot. That storyline has been vintage Elmore. No wonder I love this show!

Loved it when Raylan ask the lawyer who her client was and she said "the dumb one" and Raylan answered that that didn't narrow it down.

can someone 'splain this to me... I thought Boyd & Ava were already married... she does go by Ava Crowder, right? Were they never officially married?
^^^ She was married to a different Crowder.

Married to Boyd's brother who physically abused her. She also shot Boyd in the first season and almost killed him.

I think the sheriff regarded the money he took from Boyd to be what a 19th Century Tammany Hall politician, George W. Plunkitt, called "honest graft." According to Plunkitt, if a politician took a payoff not just for his own personal gain but also for the good of the public, it was honest graft. Don't know how convincing that is but Plunkitt claimed to believe it.

Exactly. He was also working as a greeter at a big box store, as this episode reminded us. I don't remember clearly, but I think he lost the sherrif job in the first place to someone crooked. A fact of life in Harlan: everybody is crooked. Boyd chose him because he had a reputation of being honest and was desperate. to escape a deadend job. Shelby went along but it was always clear he wasn't a stooge for Boyd. He's just been waiting for a chance to escape the hold Boyd has on him, and sees EM as the opportunity.

I thought it was her husband she shot and killed and it was Raylan that shot Boyd in the chest and almost killed him?
I thought it was a combination of the above. Ava was married to Boyd's brother, Bowman, who she shot and killed because of abuse. Raylan shot Boyd in the chest and almost killed him.

Yup !
Ava shot her husband , Boyd's bro , a Crowder for beating one to many times & Raylan shot Boyd @ Ava house , when Raylan was pooching Ava & Boyd claimed her & the house as his .

that's when Boyd got saved & started his own ministry ,when he survived the shot to the chest .

Ava soon after that dumped Raylan when she seen him & his exwife spend the night at the motel

Got the BD of season 1 today. Just watched e-1. I'm thrilled. I love it when I come to a show a little late, quickly fall in love with it, then see what I missed on BD.

The difference in PQ between the broadcast and BD is greater than other recent shows I've seen on BD (Dexter,BB) and should show off the great cinematography of the show.

Boyd gave Raylan a day to get our of town, and him getting shot was basically a showdown between the two, helped along by Ava.

Most exteriors look like KY, which is weird.

I was worried the acting and writing would be a little hokey, them not finding the gear yet, because of the many harsh reviews at Amazon. But it's fine, just fine.

Amazon is just fulfilling this, and they show limited numbers with no note about more to come. So ...

Just grabbed season 2 and no more notes on limited copies.

There's really nothing weird about the exteriors looking like Kentucky, because they were for the pilot.

Wonder what will happen to Colt now that Johnny knows the truth.

I don't see how Jody could have made it out alive or not seriously injured after jumping out of the window onto the trunk of the car. Seems like he would have broken too many bones. The sound effects sure made it seem so. Or, be in that good of shape to make the video to Raylan. Jody looked in top notch shape in that video. Ha.

Boyd and Ava at the party was an interesting scene. Especially at the end with Boyd, how the wealthy men blackmailed him. Killing somebody in politics shouldn't be a problem with Boyd and his hitchmen.

Off topic:

Mr. oink,
My detox is over on Friday!! I can drink beer again biggrin.gif
Thinking I'll order the best pizza in Houston and enjoy my beer in-style. However, with me being clean for 1.5 months I have guilt drinking again. Sort of want to stay on the wagon. Saves money and it's better for my body/health. Not fun though, drinking on the weekends is fun tongue.gif

It just hit me who Jody is--not sure if it was mentioned earlier in the season--but he played Tom Walker, Brody's fellow POW who he has to take out after the failed assassination of the VP in "Homeland".

I love the many subplots going on. Between father and son, husband and wife, enemy and enemy, friend and enemy, etc...

Still trying to figure out just who Drew Thompson is. Leaning towards it being the guy that the wealthy Harlan Countities want Boyd to take out (the Slurry pond owner)

That's who that is! I recognized him from somewhere.

I think he will become Johnny's trigger man to assassinate Boyd.

I learned a long time ago, actors, to some degree, are kryptonite resistant.wink.gif

In all things of life: moderation is important.

However, I am a poor role-model and refuse to live by maxims alone.tongue.gif

And, this ep had one of the best lines ever: "There he is. Looking like 10 lbs. of sh&t in a 5 lb. bag." I had to pause playback while I caught my breath, I was laughing so hard. biggrin.gif

It was full of great lines.

"A good man is hard to find."
"I don't know what to say since you found me so easily."

From the opening to the end this one was perfect. Everybody catch who cowrote the story?. I've read me some EL. Methinks it might be time to read some more.

OH, another great exchange:

"You think I'm playing you?"
"I don't know. With my track record lately I probably couldn't tell."
