"Justified" on FX HD - Page 75

Sonic does not offer them anymore, sadly, but they once had a chicken-fried steak sandwich. It consisted of a deep-fried hamburger patty breaded to better retain the juice (some would call, "fat"), and give it a tasty crispness at the same time. I ordered mine with chili, cheese, mustard and onions. I called it the "Michelle Burger" in honor of food-nannies everywhere.

It was scrumptious!

I am anticipating tonight's episode more than any show's this season. The image of Raylan's muni-cop buddy blasting away with a machine-gun has me fired up and finding out who Thompson is will answer the tease.

Huh...I should know about it, but I don't.

Last time I lived there was 35 years or so back.
At that time, for me at least, it was In and Out burger mania...back when they made GOOD burgies.eek.gif
We don't have any franchises up here in Oregon and so a couple of years while in Vegas, I dragged the wife (after waxing poetically for years about 'em) to one of their outlets just off the strip.
I think it was on the other side of the freeway from New York, New York.
Anyhoo, I was embarrassed...the food had changed radically and NOT for the better IMO.frown.gif
I still dream of my In and Out burgers, with fries....from the Azusa store.

Sorry again, for going OT....yet again.

Tommy's is near downtown LA, Rampart and Beverly, and I'm pretty darn sure that was the only one in town 35 years ago. In-in-Out is good too, especially if you order off the Secret Menu. cool.gif

So we have a show that drops big hints and doesn't try to fool you. Amazing. I still am wondering about how Shelby/Drew has such loyalty. I'm not getting it but I really really love this show. I am so disappointed when it ends and am already getting depressed about the fact that the season will probably be over soon. IMO, best thing on tv.

Art is a big fav. Thought crazy sniper Tim was gonna shoot druggie Colt, but Colt's demise must be being saved for the finale.

Thought the hints towards the sheriff being Drew were misdirection, but not so. Mr Ellsworth is now on the run, presumably with EM.
Boyd needs to find & deliver Drew to the Detroit boys or that DQ franchise life is in serious danger.

It goes back to that peculiar code of honor these people have, the way they were raised. That was the point of the conversation in Raylan's car - Hunter was telling Shelby/Drew that there was no way he was going to betray that secret. He'd even spend the rest of his life in a Super-Max, or step in front of a semi before he'd betray his lifelong friend.

Really, in retrospect, that's the only explanation that could possibly have made sense.

Maybe I just missed it or I just don't get his role, but what exactly is Constable Bob?

I mean, I get he's a cop and all, but a cop where? He drives around in his own car and doesn't actually seem to be affiliated with any specific jurisdiction.
From Wikipedia:

Kentucky

In Kentucky, constables are elected from each magistrate district in the state. There are between three and eight magistrate districts in each county. Under Section 101 of the Kentucky Constitution, constables have the same countywide jurisdiction as the county sheriff.[46]

Prior to the 1970s, the main function of the constables was to provide court service and security to the Justice of the Peace courts. However, since these have been eliminated by judicial reform, the office of constable now has few real functions. Constables still have the power of arrest and to execute warrants, subpoenas, summonses and other court documents, and are required to execute any court process given to them. On the approval of the Fiscal Court (the legislature of the county) they may equip their vehicles with oscillating blue lights and sirens.[46]

Most constables in Kentucky are not paid a salary, but are paid fees for services rendered. However, state law provides for payment of an annual salary of $9,600 to constables in counties with a population of over 250,000; as of the 2000 U.S. Census, this only applies in Louisville Metro/Jefferson County and the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. The payment has become a point of controversy, since constables in Kentucky have few actual duties.[46] The state has authorized a salary of up to $9,600 a year, but the Louisville Metro Council cut it to $100 a month, plus expenses.

Anyone standing for election as a Constable must be at least 24 years of age, a resident of Kentucky for at least 2 years, and a resident of the county and district for at least a year prior to election.[46] Since Constables are Constitutional peace officers they are exempt from attending the mandatory Department of Criminal Justice Training academy, although they may choose to do so. Sheriffs, Coroners, and Jailers are also exempted law enforcement officers. The Kentucky Constables Association is affiliated with the National Constables Association.

Here's some background on Constable Bob:
Bob Sweeney is a recurring character in the fourth season of the FX series Justified. Bob is introduced as a Constable for Harlan, Kentucky who assists Raylan Givens in a task to retrieve his car back from two wire-stripping teenagers. He is portrayed by guest star Patton Oswalt. Bob and Raylan go way back, all the way to an old lake trip they took while they were seniors. While Bob was a High School student in Florida, he hit a fellow student named Ollie Camp with a hammer during shop class. Bob was also in charge of watching over Arlo Givens's house for two months while he is away in prison.

I am realizing that Drew and Hunter just go way back. Despite what Hunter said about loyalty, I hadn't seen it that much in the show but I guess you got to get to the basic old families for that. That basically means that Hunter killed Arlo because Raylan told Hunter that Arlo was going to make a deal and tell him Drew's identity. I figure that Raylan figured this out (while Shelby was in the car and they were talking about the dog poop incident) and yet he didn't seem that angry at Hunter. Interesting final conversation between Hunter and Raylan when Raylan lied about what Arlo's last words were to him and Hunter asked him who was going to be the voice in his head: Arlo or Frances? and then answered his own question saying it was going to be Arlo.

Also thought the whole house hunting thing was so typical of Boyd. Carrying a cache of cash so he could, at the right time, tell off the real estate agent -- knowing that she was going to point out he couldn't afford the place. Boyd still engaged in the class struggle. The fact that Ava's mother cleaned that house is going to clinch the sale of that house.

I was cruising the guide last night and saw some Gunsmokes, so recorded a few. Frame by framed the opening (because I couldn't really tell) and Matt draws first. This was a '66 episode, no idea when it ran, I never really watched it.

Nick Searcy was one of the main guest stars on Archer tonight.

I think Marshall Dillon usually drew first in gunfights, not because he was trying to fool the other guy but because he was faster than the other guy.

I agree with the opinions already expressed by other posters that Nick Searcy's Art was incredibly entertaining this week. You've got to be a charismatic dude to have a ranting snit fit and still be so appealing you could charm the birds out of the trees.smile.gif

Yeah....I think you're right....the idea was they both went for their guns at the same time, but the Marshall was always quicker on the draw (and more accurate with his aim).

There were always two shots, at least when it was the 1/2 hour original. The first shot didn't seem to do anything, but the 2nd shot was from Matt, and struck the bad guy. Me and my friends always wondered about that first shot and the way my dad explained it was the bad guy shot first while Matt took the time to aim.We were preschool so we took his words as gospel, so maybe that clouds my memory. Maybe the evidence doesn't back that up, but hey, it's my dad! smile.gif

It was a big deal back then, now that the memory has been opened. My best friend and I were allowed to stay up for Gunsmoke, alternating between his home and mine. Always had a big bowl of popcorn. lying on the floor before the tv while our fathers sat in their favorite chair behind us.Good times...

Another great 'shoot first, 'cause you know he's shooting' is the great Brendan Gleeson's standoff (or sit off more like) towards the end of 'The Guard'. Great film, dialogue and excellent shootouts.

Brendan Gleeson has long been one of my favorite actors. I thought his performance in In Bruges, for which he was nominated for a BAFTA Award, was another of his best. In Bruges is one of my favorite films, I have the BD in my library.
