as soon as I get it

Thank you, even after sine waves for more than a minute full titlt nothing gets warm: subs, amps, receiver, wires in the basment... believe me, I checked a LOT as I knew this would all be issues before I purchased a single item, befoire I started this build log. I think I have a whole different thread with pages of talk about the plaster/lathe and electrical.

Also, would you mind checking out my VAN build so you can join the club of people that want to tell me the VAN will explode too cuz I refuse to use electrical tape and only use duct tape?

you guys with sonotubes, how do you cut the thick stuff? I've got 20" so 1/4" walls..utility knife not as easy on this as the 8" and 12" tube

used a utility knife, was easy as pie!

see thats just it, you dont think im gonna take vids from inside the box with test tones at full tilt?

You know what's crazier? The front chamber is smaller than the back chamber and the front is tund to 16Hz vs the rear to 14Hz...so really, sitting in the front normal will be worse than sitting in the back!

I will be getting 4 06' RE Audio XXX 18's for the VAN. I'll be putting the 4 IB3 18's from the van in with the other 2 in the towers. I'll use the 20" sonotube I have left over from the van for the Two Towers, 20" off the rear of the towers, 5" sticking out, for a total length of 33" or so..give or take.. around 13Hz..give or take. 2 EP4000's run at 2.66ohm nominal but will rarely ever see that. I know I will catch static for that, but hey, this is Kryprto...what's new? Bring it...

2"x4" bracing will be added with lots of PL PRO and 3" screws.

that was in reference to my VAN build...if the windows were up. The wall in the van divides it into 2 chambers. The rear chamber is larger than the front, the cabin.

always gotta cook up something special, can't do anything that would blend in

if we can get Ricci to sell 4 of his XXX's, we'll have lots to do!

I have some custom subs coming, so I'll most likely be scratching the 6 IB3's in the Two Towers. When I get the custom subs for the van and HT and swap them out, I'll add more bracing to the towers. You can see the enclosure flex.

ya ya, I know, for about 6 months strait I posted several posts every single day on several different forums, and every day I was "given advice". So out of 30 pieces of advice every single day for 6 months... 5400 pieces of advice ( not even exaggerating if that is how you spell the word )one piece of advice I disagreed with, I ate my words on. So I tried to be a man to admit I was wrong, but it was acceptable to throw it in my face and say I'm an idiot that doesnt know what I am doing, and now that 1 piece of advice proved true, the other 5399 ideas were right too and I was wrong for ignoring those as well.

Atmos Audio is putting soft parts on 6 high excursion baskets I got ahold of. 4" coils, will handle 2kW, over 55mm Xmech

4 for the van, 2 for the HT

A lot of people like the giant 12" ports on the HT's, so here is a link to the VAN's 20" port.

4 IB3 18's, 60 cubic feet, 20" diameter port 18.5" long for a 21Hz tune, 14kW on tap.

DBAudio made me this track. It is 19Hz-13Hz sweeps. As you see in the vid, some of the sunflower seeds were pulled strait back to the rear of the wall, and then blown strait up to the front dash. No arch, not lobbed.

Now that the HT build and the VAN builds are complete, it's time for touch-ups and clean up. Painting the house, every wall a different color, each tower a different color, started with the bed/bleechers today. The towers will wait till the custom subs are done and I add bracing.

had a big thunderstorm, I got a bolt with the camera then played thunder rolls, cuz the stereo playing lightening is several times louder than lightening only 2-4 miles away

the two 18's by themselves are pretty impressive. I'd love to have upgraded to the IB3 22's when they came out under the impression that I'd double my displacement, but I was wrong about that. Before I start sticking some 2"x4"s in them I have to consider whether I'll be cutting them 16.5's out to 20.5's, or if I'll be adding 2 more 16.5's per box, or, sticking with what I have. I think I could be happy with what I have...they're amazing... but double the displacement for some headroom would be better. Simply getting 2 more IB3s, 1 per box, would be ideal...but would look stupid. 3 is a lot more $$$ than I planned and a weird ohm load. Owell, gotta keep on movin.

routered the front of the amp rack/entertainment center. everything is VERY sloppy, the way I like it, it's my signature mark for everything I build

is 75% close to 100%? Is 3 quarters close to a dollar? Is 3/4 close to 1? Is 42mm just a hair more, shortly after, 30mm? I remember way back when Adire Audio and RE Audio were IT. Brahma's and XXXs. The standard 12-spoke basket with standard 8" spider and standard 3.5" p-p 1/2 roll surround. The Brahma, Tumult, Ascendant Audio Avalanche, XXX, SX, SE, RE, prolly the Magnum and TREO and everything...all seemed to have about 31mm-33mm Xmech. Everything did. So when I heard the IB3 had a 30mm Xmax and Xmech was just a little bit past that, I thought "OK, so the IB3 has a 31mm-33mm Xmech". So When I hear the 22" will have 96% of the Vd of two IB3 18's, and a 38mm Xmax, I think " So the 18 has 30mm Xmax and 33mm Xmech, and the 22 has a 38mm Xmax and probably a 39mm-42mm Xmech, that makes the 22" cone displace the same as two 18's...sweet"

ugh anyway... as you can see, still have a LOT of work ahead, but works getting done, progress is being made. I'm at a standstill on what to do for subs... keep it as it is and be happy? Get 2 more and have 4 IB3's... same Vd as planned? I don't know. I'm losin sleep over this? LOL!

So Ive had my subs in the 10 cube 35Hz box for a while, and I am extremely shocked. As expected, it is so much louder, inside and outside. You cant hear the towers outside, but you can hear the small box down the block. No surprise.

What does surprise me is being tuned to 35Hz, I am loudest at 47Hz but it falls off hard and fast both ways. Playing rap music centered around 35 is quiet. Excursion is minimal, the port blows air, but it's just not super loud.

Now to contradict what I just said, I am amazed at the subsonics I still get. I watched The Last Samuri (sp) and Children of Men, I can't believe I still get plenty of subsonics 1.5 octaves below tuning, enough to jiggle my bed. It is a completely different experience, its LOUD and booooooms, but I thought Id have bad over excursion and NO low end due to unloading.

All in all, I wouldn't trade my towers for the world. It is more viceral down low where I like it, it sounds a million times better. Its fun to experiment and it's good to know the difference, but I cant wait to get my act together and brace the towers.

BTW, I sold 2 of the 18's and put 2 more in there, when I did I re-wired and have an EP4000 per sub now, 8 ohms, a whole world of difference. MUCH louder, no more tripping breakers, no more lights dimming.

lol I was JUST gonna say try ROE lol... but I never have any luck there finding the right ones I need at a given moment either. Ive found some using google... it took me a while to learn how to make my own CD using NCH Tone Generator but you could record your voice saying each tone and make your own sine wave for whatever time block you want.

I dont have much going on in the house other than the HT. I have a wicked van build though. And the platform is perfect for absorbing subsonics and shaking....I didnt think of it when i built it, wasn't intended bonus.


The guy I sold the 18's to has them installed in his car, 9.5 cubes @ 32 Hz... his is really peak as well in car. I thought large motored drivers were peaky? I know, I know, these subs were designed for IB... but shouldnt they still be flatter ina small box than large motored subs?

I've been waiting for almost 2 years for Brian to begin his build log, I believe it was initially going to be 8 22" IB3's, and it looks as though he decided to go 18's as I have decided to go dual 18's per tower rather than a single 22 as well. So I ran the numbers just for fun, I modeled 4 IB3 18's sealed in 5,000 cubic feet powered to Xmech though... 2,550 watts, to one of my towers, 2 18's 128 cubes 12" port 13Hz tune. 900 watts gets to Xmech. I was quite surprised, I am pleased. Ive also considered 3 per tower but I dont like the curve at all or the impedance.



I get slaughtered down to 15Hz, I sure wouldn't mind Brians set up! But I like mine too, I think I'll be happy once I get 2 more and a whole bunch of 2"x4"s in there to brace.
