I have been following this thread since you first started it.

I love the fact that you are doing what makes YOU happy.

Most people I know give me hell for building Two sonosubs that are over a foot taller than I am (I am 5"2).
Then I turn them on and their jaw drops and mine aren't even that impressive.

I Can't wait to hear what you say about 4x IB3's.

The simple fact that you can throw whatever you want at these subs, including pure sine wave for 10 min, and not even break a sweat is Awesome.

That is not overkill, that is "Headroom" or self assurance that you can't accidentally blow something up.
I know that if for some reason my Hi-Pass fails, and I decide to play stuff that is <18hz that my subs will rip themselves apart.
So, being able to not have to worry about that is epic.

I can't wait to see the next video.

3AM, I am ELAITED! I am floored at the output of the first tower, but I'll skip that and start the vids of all together. I think it's funny when people think sonotubes are too big. As far as I am concerned they are the most practicle because of the foot print. If you have a 2'x2'x2' box, vs a 2'x2'x8' box, whats the difference? HUGE gains with the same floor plan!

This post really juiced me up... thank you so much!

Jordan,

They sound really deep on the camera. Do they sound alot deeper. I am guessing yes.

How do you find them compared to the last ones.

More vids and more rattling off stuff.

Cheers for the vid matey.

DEEEP! There is NO comparison, this is a whole new thing and I got a lotta playin to do. For music it's a whole different thing and I love it. WOTWs was a huge let down, I almost want to say less subsonics but its too early to be sure. More vids? Comin up!

BTW, I know full well that a single stronger pair of subs, maybe even just 1 badass 18, is overall more... mine wer "dead" till subsonics, now they kick..but it's no four 18's kick.

Holy Batman! Whaaat!..

More bass and less excursion aswell by the looks off it.

That's way more output than an IB too.

Gotta say these are some impressive towers - loved all of the inside photos of the recent bracing, etc...

Keep these updates coming - Thanks!

Jordan,
Oftentimes on different AVS threads, and other forums as well, individual posters refer to WAF, and how nice and tolerant their significant other is in regard to their hobby. My wife of 23 years, she's been accommodating.

She's been plopped down in the sweet spot and asked her opinion of things, hundreds and hundreds of times. She's traveled with me to foreign country just so we could catch an obscure live act in my favorite venue. She's put up with LF test tones, and endless pink noise emanating from our system while I calibrate and EQ. She's allowed me to pay outrageous ticket broker fees so her and I can see our favorite live acts from the perfect seats. She even took one for the team, when she took my daughter to see Miley Cyrus, and left me happily at home. She's allowed me to travel and mix FOH for a living. She's allowed me to mix in local clubs and arrive home at dawn night after night. She's even allowed me to take our 14 year old daughter to a concert I was working on a school night, knowing I'd not get home 'til 3 am or so. However, this was her favorite star, and I got her in the front row and a extremely rare one on one visit w/ the star in her motor-coach, after the event.

She's allowed me to pursue live sound, and pursue my audio hobby, as an enthusiast in our home. She's done all this, but she's never crawled inside a sub and retro-fitted it with additional bracing! Those twin towers must have the highest WAF in existence!

I really enjoy photography, and the visual perspective of someone inside the sub is just off the chart insanity!...I like it. I think it's awesome, it's just really, really cool you're doing all this together. Keep it up.

Back to the original design of the LLT single 18", what was the resultant tune, and how does this second driver affect that? What's the current tune? I've never ventured much into vented box theory so I'm curious in that regard. I'm very curious how it handles the Pod Emergence scenes (WOTW) and other sub-sonic treats.

Also, what is your voice coil impedance, and exactly how do you have the EP4000s configured to drive the Fi 18s? Have you ever tripped a breaker during normal usage, or just while using steady state tones?

Thanks
The tracks you're playing in the vids, are these specific releases w/ extreme LF? Or are any of those commercial releases that happen to contain the sub-sonics?

Also, in the post where you put up all the vids, the first one has a flutter sound @ :25, and @ :32, what is making that sound? It comes obviously at the same time as big excursions, but I can't tell if it's something in the room, the cabinet, the port, the driver,...just wondering what that is?

Thanks

You have us rolling in our seats, I read all that alloud to her. Last night I was telling her "on my forums one of the popular acronyms is WAF" so that was a treat to read to her. I cant count how many times I have thanked her in the last 10 hrs for all her help...again. She helped me fix the front stage in the VAN too. Doesnt it make it all worthwhile when you can do it together? Im glad to hear the things you do for eachother. She keeps going on about how fun all this looked when I used to show her pics, and now shes loving actually doing it. She was so frustrated with the drill last night, but she had this huge grin and determination and conqored it. Speaker time is family time here, I am a lucky guy.

With the enclosures constant volume of 128-ish cubic feet and constant port volume of 12" diameter x 5" length tuning is aproximately 13.24Hz. Whether I have one or many drivers, small or large, SPL or SQ... the tuning remains the same but you are correct... dropping that second driver in there completely changed everything! There is no comparison. Its much louder, hits much harder, still plays deep but the tendencies to play what louder and what not as exaggerated appear to be as predicted.

For music, it is insane, suck an improvement. With the single driver 20Hz on up was quiet, therefor 99.99% of music was dull. When I hit the bass songs: The Bass Will Destroy You, Bass I Love You, Make it Drop, or Opus Dei the subsonic parts come alive...but of course aren't loud evenn during the very "loud" subsonic parts. It was also as predicted. With both drivers per box, I get more subsonics, less excursion, stuff in the house flows with the flow of air. You can't imagine 5Hz-10Hz visualization unless your submersed in it, the camera doesnt show everything wobbling.

I was however disappointed with WOTWs and I shut it off and went to bed to try again today. With the single 18's, street breaking up, foot stomps of pods, and my 2 favorites: the fuel tanker truck blown off the overpass and exploding when it lands as well as the sick pod getting shot by rocket launchers then crashing head first through the brick building... you get a rolling effect. It really feels like the head is grinding toward you and you would not believe it were only two 18" drivers connecting you to the air around you dragging you into the ride. I don't know if I was playing it too safe last night, usually I am set to -4 for WOTWs but I was at -8 last night. I went from 8ohms per driver/per amp to 4 ohms per pair/per amp. The EP is rated 1700 RMS at 8 ohms and 2500 rms at 4 ohms, so I expected to still have to bring it up a few more clicks with two drivers despite the higher power with lower impedance. Wrong. The Incredible Hulk I watched at -1 before, I am still playing with it now...she made me stop so she could go back to sleep but I am around -5-ish right now with it.

WOTWs and Incredible are MUCH louder with the sonics, but last night WOTWs seemed like it actually lost subsonics. Masked by so much more upper? IDK yet, but I will keep you posted!

The dedicated to graham make it drop? its the track itself... it flutters out some super low content, you can see the subs move to it... I'll still look back and check but I am guessing this is it?

The Incredible Hulk. This is indescribable so i will leave it at this: If you don't get it from the flopping fan blades, flopping doors, flopping mirrors, I wish I could put something 8 feet in front of the ports to show the air blowing, when you stand anywhere in the house you bounce up and down, the ceiling is going to fall in soon....

I know you love the super low stuff, you had also mentioned that they sound good for music too?

I know these hit no where near <20Hz but they are still some super nice bass tones.

I use these and my subs rattle things on the other side of the house, I can't even begin to imagine what yours would do.

(This is a pretty wide mix of stuff, you might not like some or any of it.)
Oh and, NSFW!

Lil Wayne - Lollipop
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GODqk-XLVjg&hd=1
at 1:22 during the line "and make that thing chirp, chirp" It gets pretty low, upper 40's I think. (which on my system is really fun)

Ludacris - How Low
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Bb3lFWh8gE&hd=1
This was my favorite demo song for music for quite a while, the entire front of my house flexes.

Joker - Snake Eater (Dubstep mix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AryVK9vtX3M&hd=1
(this has wonderful mid low bass throughout, for people who come to listen to my system who have no idea what infrasonics are, I start them with this, then move onto things like WoTW)

(this is stuff that is a bit different)
Bjork - Hyper ballad
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCcPF2wJUzU&hd=1
This song is what started my bass obsession, over a decade ago.
It's not super low, but it is really big, rich and clean.

***Bonus***
Mum - Finally we are no one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56_AsRECKeA
This tips the charts on what most people consider to be experimental, though I highly enjoy this artist, and album.
I was listening to it the other day and this song came on and my entire room started to move.
I tossed it into Cubase and ran a quick Freq analyzer and found that in the recording there is NO High Pass at all. There are recorded noises (quiet ones) that go into the single digits. Most of it is in the first 30-60 seconds.

I would love to see if this is just noise, or if it comes out as super ultra low stuff.

I have plenty more of really fun bass stuff if you want, though most of it is music in the 20-80Hz range.

Yep, that is a fun one.
If you happen to have a PS3 and the game Red Dead Redemption, you have lucked out.
Sometimes you can get lucky and while playing a giant thundercloud will roll over you. It was recorded wonderfully, and you can hear the distance change as the cracks of thunder break closer and closer to you.

Yeah, four 18's will tend to do that. IB subs or not, thats a lot of bass for one house to handle.
