That's right folks! This beast needs 600W with 12V minimum current of 42A!!! Time to upgrade your power supplies...

Maybe so, but consider those with multicore processors use much of that.

Mine adds up to 72A together (1010w). I don't think I have enough. I'm running a GTX 295 now, so it might work anyways, but it's an older discontinued model and my setup has lots of peripherals.

You will be fine. Most multi rail 12v will work. I just replaced my Corsair 1000w with an Enermax Galaxy Evo 1250w which has multi rails and I sure it will work with any Fermi based card. I think what they are saying is that all the 12v shld have at least 42a.

Now we need some Crysis, GTA IV and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. highest settings benchmarks to see what this beast can really do with those power requirements.

Just noticed this board requires PCI-E "2.0". That's a first. That should get a few people to upgrade their motherboards.

no, the box says either will work.

I put it at 50/50 that it is faster than a 295

I'm confident that a single card will handily outperform a GTX 295 where it counts, especially with games that support hardware-based PhysX thanks to the new architecture.

Oh, and the larger frame buffer will help in certain cases.

we'll see. I'm on the fence between ATI and Nvidia this time. I lean toward Nvidia as the drivers are more consistent and SLI seems to work better and more often.

I hate Cat drivers. Real PITA to work with compared to Nvidia.

I agree about the Catalyst drivers, but the one big thing I hate about the nvidia cards is no onboard sound. HDMI audio output for the money is a huge bonus. I only have 2 PCI-E slots, and if I fill them both with two nvidia two-slotters I'll be blocking a PCI-e the only x1 slot I have free, and I couldn't use it for a HDMI audio card. (Yes, I know about the Xonar HDMI 1.3 PCI thin, but AFAIC it's a waste of money, PCI is dead).

I surprisingly just sold my 1yr old gtx 295 for $520 on ebay! Thats actually more than i paid it. Not sure to go fermi or revision 2 5970, will wait to see some reviews I guess. Ati gives me issues with underscan on my panasonic plasma though.

All well and good, but if you plan on upgrading your motherboard- a lot of the better ones don't even have PCI anymore- they're all PCI-e, and as the time passes PCI equipped motherboards will only be harder to find.

On that note- does anyone think the new Fermi boards will have onboard audio? If they don't I found someone who's selling an HDMI audio card cheap and I want to jump on it.

If these boxes are correct with the claim for 7.1 channel audio (one box does have an inconsistency with its stated memory for the 470), then it appears that the new cards will indeed have an onboard audio controller.

Hard to say, but it should have the same chipset as the GT240 so it will at least be able to output PCM audio, but not bitstream like the ATI cards (too bad, because I have a Blu-Ray drive).

In any event, I really hope EVGA and BFG offers cards because I don't want to spend $600 on a card with no upgrade path and a crappy warranty.

6+8 pins connectors. Do not think that would be that bad. 750W from descent company would handle it with no problem.

EVGA has some pretty boxes for display. Let us hope they fill them with actual cards.

What is underscan? I have a panasonic plasma and was thinking about getting an ATI. You say the ATI gave your TV underscan?

Heck, my PC P&C 750 would run 2 x 280 gtx's. I'm sure anything over 750 will work perfectly fine. 42 amps is most likely the absoult worst case senerio.

I once ran a GTX 285, a 9800GT and an overclocked CPU on a 620 watt Corsair PSU with 12-volt rails that had a shared 50 amps. The machine never crashed under load, so I also believe many people will likely be fine running the GTX 480.

my Corsair 650W ran a GTX295 and a quad...granted I now run a Corsair 850W. As long as it has the amps, I'm sure it's fine.

Confirmed: GTX 480 to have 480 cores
