Looking at it right now with the sun hitting it at an off angle I can see an ever so slight red tint on the bottom strip of the bezel, nothing distracting about it.

I notice the picture shaking occasionally when I turn it on , it shakes back and forth slightly. Is that the pixel shift to prevent burn in? It seems to me that it would do that after it has been on for a while , and if I turn the tv off then back on it stops. It never does it any other time other than when it's initially turned on. This is my first plasma and I don't know if that is normal or not ?

Also I noticed my speaker is blown in the tv , is it replaceable ? I'm still within my return period since it was purchased at BB in December. I would hate to start over and break in another plasma , also mine is very quiet , I'd hate to get a buzzer if I return this one.

Any help with either or both of my issues would be appreciated!

ANYBODY ?

Yup. That's pixel shift. Blown speaker? That would be caused by you with overuse lol. I'd get a new one. Or get a home theatre system. HD needs HT

Would I need to break this TV in? Because I read somewhere is this thread that it is not need and you only just needed to keep the Cell light off max for the first 100 or so hours.

I never broke in my set. Or any plasma set I've owned. From day 1 I use it how I plan to use it forever. Still am yet to have any problems.

Hmm , so pixel shift only activates upon start up ? Seems odd. If it's to prevent burn in/image retention , why wouldn't it start after the tv had been on a while? This is my first plasma so I have a lot to learn.

As far as the speaker goes , can they replace the blown speaker? If they open up the tv can they cause other problems that I don't have now , like buzzing? I did break mine in and don't want to start over with a new set. Its in a bedroom and won't have surround sound , I have a sound bar but I still want the tv speaker fixed in case I ever want to sell the tv.

If it's to prevent burn in why WOULDN'T it start right away. Waiting for it to start would defeat the point. Pure common sense. For the speaker goes. Call samsung and ask them. It might be under warranty. However a blown speaker is cause by something the owner did to the set. So I'd imagine they wouldn't cover it.

Really, you are sure it caused by the owner? Ever heard of a defect? Yes, sometimes, speakers do fail, not due to any fault of the owner.

True. But I doubt it was a manufacturer issue. Other wise he would have noticed the problem day 1 with the set and taken it back.

So, if you don't think it was a manufacturer issue, and not a user issue, then, what could it be? Not a shipping issue, because that would be from day one, as well.

The fact of the matter is, speakers can spontaneously fail, just like video boards and power supplies; it is much less frequent, but it happens.

I never said it wasn't a user issue. Intact. This entire time I talked about it I stated it was a user issue. Read BEFORE posting.
I did read it before I posted. It's called a mistake. OK, so you think the owner abused the speakers. My point, which you didn't acknowledge, maybe because you didn't read it, is that saying for manufacturer-flawed defective speakers, 'he would have noticed the problem day 1', is not always true, they sometimes just fail, at any time during ownership.

Hi everyone, I bought a PN50C450 back in November -- my first flat-panel TV. I chose this model after reading the forums here, so thanks to all of you! I'm very happy with this TV. The picture looked great right out of the box. It does buzz, but it's not very loud: I never notice it unless the TV is muted and I'm right in front of the screen. And I also don't notice the screen-door effect from any normal viewing distance.

My family doesn't actually watch a lot of TV. We probably only watch 5 or 6 hours a week, and much of that is using the Wii we got at Christmas. It's also in the bedroom, which rules out just running a DVD on repeat all night. So we're maybe halfway through our 100 hour break-in period. I have to admit we haven't done anything particular for this period. I did turn down the brightness and contrast for a while, but honestly I got tired of how crappy it looked compared to the normal settings.

My worry is about IR. If my kids play Mario Kart Wii for a couple hours, there's some ghosting of the Lap counter in the upper right. It takes a while to appear and then goes away fairly quickly if I put on a movie.

It seems like network sports causes the worst IR. I watch some college basketball, and I always have IR afterwards from the ESPN scoreboard in the bottom center of the screen. The ghosting is much sharper than what I get from the Wii and it takes longer to go away.

This afternoon I turned on a game for literally no more than 90 seconds, and when I switched channels there was already very vivid IR. I could read the word "Carolina" as clear as day, for example. Fortunately it faded quickly, but I'm concerned that it came on so fast. Are the pixels in that area of the screen weakened from the other games I've watched with the scoreboard in that identical position? Is this something that will get worse and worse? Do I have to stop watching sports on ESPN? Will this burn in to my screen over time?

I do have pixel shift turned on (4/4/1), and watch at 16:9 in Standard mode. I'd be grateful for any advice about how to avoid these issues. I'm worried about permanently damaging my brand-new TV.

Thanks for any help.

I bought my PN50C450 almost a year ago, and have yet to hear any kind of buzzing whatsover. Even muted it is completely silent. I guess I got lucky.

I was worried about the same thing when I bought mine, playing Super Mario Galaxy for even a few minutes would leave a very visible imprint of the health meter for a while afterward. Movies not in 16x9 or non-stretched TV would leave lines pretty quickly too. I used to use the scrolling bar found in the picture options to erase the retained image overnight, but I haven't done that in a long time and I can say that it takes a few hours now to retain an image, and it goes away pretty quickly. I won't claim that you can't hurt the TV playing games for long periods of time, but if I were to buy another plasma, I wouldn't worry about limiting the TV's use over a break in period at all.

Well if I had understood just how the feature worked I wouldn't have asked. So it's not common sense to everyone. That's why I'm here! To learn!

So if it's too much for you to be understanding of that fact then shove your condescending answers up your a$$

Anyone suspect that the C490 is the same tv as the C450 but with 3D added?

I would almost bet on it, that it is.
Technical specs seem to be quite the same. I have the C490 and have a thread dedicated to it and have been following this thread, especially replies regarding color settings. Settings i have found for the 450 just seem to throw things off when used on the 490 but i guess that is to be expected since they should be set to the individual's liking.

Didn't want to hijack this thread but curious as to the difference between the two sets other than 3D.

Isn't it like 200 bucks more oppose to this set?
That would be a close guesstimate
Alright, the BIG question for you guys...

Should I wait another month+ for the PN51D450 or pull the trigger now on the PN50C450?
I hesitate to wait because there are awesome closeout deals on the older models and I know the new model will be introduced at MSRP and stay there until August.

The thin bezel and extra 1" of screen real estate on the D series is sweet. Love the sleek look of the new model too!
I'd get the close out deal. That's exactly what I'm doing.

I just bought a PN42C450 for my daughters bedroom Friday and she loves it. It produces a surprising good picture for the $$.

I'll fully calibrate it after the first 150 hrs.

The PN50c450 is going to be my first plasma. I purchased it from 6th ave, through amazon. It is in transit and arrives on Monday, Jan 31. I am going to pick up a stand for it from BB tonight after work.

Thanks for all the information and resources.
