Thanks for all the information and resources.

Don't buy a stand from them! We over price like it's cool!

I picked up a nice Z-line stand at Target awhile back.

Its my first plasma as well. I was extremely hesitant to buy any plasma and now I'm a big fan. If you like sports , plasma is the only way to go.

I have my 50" in my bedroom and Im now seriously considering a 58 or 65 for the living room.

Good luck and enjoy!

I find that I have changed myself into an avid plasma person. LCD is just to slow. Plasma is just great for everything. Except light lol.

Yes , it's the light factor in the living room that would be the only reason I don't go plasma. Loving this tv in the bedroom though. The best $600 I ever spent.

I hear ya. I plan on buying another one of these beast once they hit outlet and clearance prices. Which should be in another month or so. I'll literally be able to get one of these bad boys half off.

I'm almost tempted to grab a 42c450 for the bedroom once they are on clearence, or I could grab a 63C550 or a 64D550 and move the 50C450 to the bedroom...

Many thanks for the suggestions on stands.

I ended up getting a $279 stand that was already built and on display for $99

It is a Pinnacle 50201, with a very modern styling and will be perfect for my needs.

Is is Monday yet.....

I will plead guilty, I am spending way too much time on this thread:

"HDTV" week at tiger direct. they posted it this morning and they were sold out by 11am, and had replaced the 450 with the 430 in the online sales "flier". I got a better deal on the 450 than they are offering on the 430 now. Glad I jumped on it when i did! Cant wait to get it. Anyone else use TD and/or deal with AIT logistics, their shipper?

What was the deal?

Hey guys, I tried reading all the post to find my answer... It's just way too long... So hopefully somebody can help me. I just picked up the 42in C450 and was wondering what settings I should use during the break in period to reduce the chances of burn in. This is my first plasma. Thanks for any help.

I hopped on the TD deal on the 50c450 on Friday. I was stoked when it came in Monday but when I went to turn it on, I got nothing. Only a red light. After calling Samsung, they told me it had a bad power supply. TD is replacing it so I'm cool with that and I'm hoping the turn-around time isn't too long. This is my first plasma and I was wondering if anyone else had any of the c450's DOA?

I got a good deal on one of these last week and having been an LCD owner up to now was really impressed with the PQ. Only thing is it buzzed. I watch movies and play games and those things tend to drown the noise out for the most part (the old 360 in particular), but a bit of quiet tv at night and the buzzing really starting to get on my nerves. Quiet scenes, switching channels, I tried to tune my ears out to it and tell myself it didn't bother me that much but in the end I think it did. It felt like a pity to return it because I really liked everything else about it. Feels almost like I shouldn't complain based on what it cost, but it did detract from the viewing experience. I would have gladly paid more for a non-buzzer.

Seems pretty slack on the part of Samsung though, I mean they obviously have talented people working for them, coming up with great screens, but they still can't get rid of the buzzing in 2010? If it was only for the lower-end range ok I could understand it's a trade off (nice PQ but buzzes) but afaik even the more expensive sets do it too.

Not sure what to get now, I'm definitely keen to buy another Plasma in the low to mid price range. I was going to just get a Panasonic but now I read all this about the black levels etc, seems like not such a good idea either. LG reviews seem a bit mixed and I've read reviews about them being buzzers sometimes too. Will probably just stick with the LCD for now and wait to see what they come up with this year.

i thought we werent supposed to talk about prices? but since you asked, I got it for $539.00 delivered after the wednesday sale price and a $10 additional discount i got for signing up for their email alerts thing.

Now for the fun part! After watching the "order status" thing all day it went from "processing in our warehouse" to "All Backordered - These items are currently on backorder, and will ship as soon as we receive stock on them. ( We are currently doing a physical inventory. Your order may temporarily show on backorder. Please allow 48 hours for your status to update. )"

Big sigh. I missed that friday deal and was stoked when they re-did it, but I guess I have to be patient a little longer. I also noticed that the other tv I was watching (Hannspree 120hz 42" LCD) went back on sale at newegg last night. Id rather have the samsung 50" but that is my backup plan.

EDIT: Just got off the phone with TD. They have no idea about when they will get more in. They are willing to do the same deal on the 430 but since that is a cheaper model I am just going to wait.

SECOND EDIT: Talked to Samsung USA; their 2011 models wont be out until March, so there is extremely little likelihood that the existing ones have been discontinued. I'll continue to wait before settling for a 430.

I am no expert but common sense says dont leave any static images on the screen. Dont watch sports games with the score graphic in the same spot all game long for example.

You could also try actually reading the thread or using the search function...

I got one of these tv's for my mother, and just used it out of the box. Haven't seen image retention yet so I wouldn't worry about it... It has software to prevent burn in. I have just watched tv normally with the logo's. Didn't have any problems. PS: Just don't crank up the cell lighting too high in the first weeks.

YOU could try and actually read my post before posting some worthless passive aggressive a$$ hole response. This thread is 45 pages of off topic gibberish and I did use the search function. If i could have found the information myself i wouldnt have bothered asking. I asked for specific settings (contrast, cell lighting, ect.) i already know the "common sense" things you listed. Jeeze. I Hope all the forum members aren't as rude and not helpful as you.
jjarrett, like long duck stated, try to avoid statis images, sports tickers, gaming with HUD, and also avoid black bars (top & botto, or sides - use a stretch mode to fill the screen), and I'd also utilize movie mode, and drop the cell setting to about 7, contrast to around 75, and brightness to around 50-55.

After break-in, calibrate as necessary.

-Enjoy,
John
I honestly wouldn't worry about break in. It isn't needed.
Better safe than sorry. What's 100 or so hours in the total life of your panel?
OK, so my PN50C450 was just miraculously delivered a few moments ago even though NYC is currently buried in 2'+ of snow. It is HUGE and PENDRAG0ON is right the Touch of Color is hardly visible in our living room (I like that).

So my panel is definitely cold from sitting in the truck all morning and I can clearly see condensation on the glass. How long should I let the unit acclimate to my household temp before powering it on?

I also noticed my unit was manufactured way back in May, sure hope I don't have a buzzer on my hands...

Lastly, thanks dsskid for the recommended break-in settings!
Thanks John. I was worried a contrast ratio of 75 was too high. I had it on 50... Which sucked to watch!

My daughter had the same reaction when I lowered the contrast to halfway (a lot of light in her room), so I raised the contrast to 70-75, and lowered the "cell" setting. If you avoid the static images and black bars, I think you should be ok. If you can live with contrast at 60-65, even better.

Just discovered my set came with two ferrite cores. The manual only states there should be one. Any suggestions on the best place to use them? Both ends of the power cord?
Wow. I've got mine on 85.

I'm experiencing horizontal banding on my new 50c450. It is clearly visible on the lighter shaded break-in slides. Is this behavior typical? Will the break-in process help reduce them? I'm using the 120 slides from webapalooza.

Edit: I went back and re-read the earlier posts and it sounds like others have suffered from the horizontal line issue.

I'm not too impressed with this set so far. Definitely buzzes too. Picture does not wow me like other plasmas have. However I'll keep going with the break-in slides to see if things get better.

Maybe I should have stuck to my original plan for a Panny S2 or held out for the 2011 D450.
