Samsung PNXXc450 Owners Thread *NO PRICE TALK* - Page 51

Anyone know a great deal for a 50 of this? PM details. I can't seem to find anything other then the price I've always seen.

I exchanged my 42c450 for another one at Best Buy. So far so good. No flashing white pixels in random places on the screen. I did put those ferrite cores on the power cord this time. Maybe that helped a little Who knows. I read anything from lowering my brightness to cheap hdmi cable to its the set top box to it takes time for the phosphor pixels to settle down. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I have two copies of Black Ops and it looks blurry on the PS3 and super crisp on the 360, also tried Red Dead Redemption and same thing. I went back on the 360 and set the resolution to 720P and it looks exactly how it does on the PS3.. like shxt.. Setting it to 720P clearly makes the games on both consoles look like crap.

I have the 42" so I know the resolution is lower for people who have the 50" version. I've used HDMI only on both consoles and I have tried messing around with game mode, settings, and sharpness. The 360 looks gorgeous on this set. Why is it that it looks so.... blurry on the PS3? Is there anything I can do to make it looks as crisp as it does on the 360 when I use optimal resolution? I have been messing with the TV all week.

Thanks in advance.

I have my PS3 set up to send all forms of resolution except 1080p and it looks great. What I see in the info box when I switch to input 2 is that the PS3 is sending 1080i to the set. I dont have a Xbox to compare it too....so I am just looking at PQ. I also have Input 2 on Game mode.

I just finished Uncharted 2 this weekend and just started Red Dead Redemption and I thought the PQ looked great ?? Sorry you are not seeing good PQ - have you checked your settings on both the set and the PS3 ?

So I just bought my 50C450B1D yesterday and I was amazed. My friend has the same TV and he told me I should upgrade the firmware. I went to Samsung's website and Downloaded the 1008 Firmware. After installing the Firmware onto the TV, my colors are disasterous. I have blue and green blothches all over the screen. Also i see "red snow" I believe it is called where reds are filled with black pixels. I am positive I downloaded the correct Firmware for my Model Number. I called Samsung and they are sending a local tech. I called the tech to see if they was anything I could do myself as I am an IT Specialist and I am pretty technically inclined. He asked why I upgraded the Firmware on a brand new TV... I thought to myself, I guess I would like to have the latest software available... That makes since to me. Anyways, He said that I have fried my main board! Anyone ever had this Problem? I would love to revert back to 1007 Firmware where my TV looked great. I wish I wouldnt have messed with it on my first night of having the TV... Ugg, very frustrating.

I ask again, did you follow all the firmware update instructions including allowing the TV to optimize itself after the update before using it?!?!?!

I think that with this many people reporting problems with the update in this thread it's a serious issue the firmware. Samsung needs to pull it from their site.
So far we've all followed the directions they give and it still ruined the set.
Yes I followed the Firmware Instructions on the Samsung website. Everything ran exactly to the instructions... Is there a way I can restore the old Firmware to try and remedy the issue?

I just confirmed that my set already is using the 1008 firmware version and works GREAT!

There may be a corrupted file of some sort on their download link. I would suggest that anyone having these seemingly serious issues should get Samsung to verify the integrity of that file.

So is there Anyway I can fix my issue? Reverting back to 1007? I really don't want to wait for a Tech to come my house if there is something I can do to fix my TV. Is there a way I can do a "Master Reset" of sorts?

Only if you can find someone with the right file.

Second Question then I suppose... Is it even possible in the Software Upgrade Menu to have the TV revert back to an old Firmware?

I'm not sure but I don't think so. I'm not even sure it would try to install a firmware that's older than the one already installed. It's possible that a Samsung tech may need to do the downgrade.

OMG OMG OMG, I figured a way to make it look super nice and clear on the PS3! You and whoever else plays on a PS3 might want to try this because it seriously makes the quality much much better. This works for both the PS3 and 360 (360 has optimal resolution so I would just use that)

First thing I did was I hooked up my PS3 to HDMI/DVI input 1. It has to be the first one since this is the only one with HDMI/DVI.
On your remote press source and then tools.
You will see
"Edit Name"
"Information"
Go and choose Edit Name and Choose "PC"
When you're done it should look like this.

That isn't going to make it look any better then game mode.

Great find illest! it looks lit cycles the display into PC mode which disables edge enhancement and other processes. The crispness of the image is fantastic. Be sure to adjust the reference levels to full RGB since this mode is now displaying 0-255 instead of video standards.

I've had a few people try this today and they all said it looked much better. Doing this enables you to get full picture on the screen with no over scan and the ability to use Pixel Shift. Game mode looks like crap and if you use screen fit it will not let you use Pixel Shift. My PS3 now looks as crisp as my 360 which has always been set at optimal resolution, this option is only available while the 360 is plugged into input HDMI 1, PS3 does not have this option. I am very happy with how it looks and I will no longer have to return the PS3.
You are aware you can change a bunch of settings to make game mode look great. If you used ANY picture settings in there default mode then of course it's going to look like crap.

This (selecting "optimal resolution" on 360) makes the tv think a DVI pc is connected. You can get the same result when connecting the 360 through VGA.

Guys I need help. I bought the Samsung PN42C450 and It was great first week or so.. It came with 1008 firmware. Anyway I have about 40 hrs on it now and now when I play games or watch movies I see a double image when i move left or right. In fall out 3, for example If i see a person standing i look around and i see a doube image of that person or building. And the picture gets REALLY fuzzy and blurry. But when im in one position or keeping the camera foward and not moving it while running/walking. its in a perfect picture. I thought the 0.001 second response time was suppose to really eliminate that? And I get weird green streaks/ghosting when moving left or right as well. I have all enchancements turned off. I tried resetting to factory menu. I tried everything.. Please help I just got this as a TV for my girlfriend and i for our new apartment. We are kind of upset now. Please help! Do I have to burn it in for 100hrs+ for it to go away? Ive been running color patterns everyday/night to burn the plasma in.

This TV was awesome in the first week. I have no idea what happend. New HDMI cables from monoprice btw. Anyway any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

-Mikey.

Yeah when I was using VGA in the past I would choose optimal resolution. I use HDMI now because games look clearer.

Yes I know this -__- I have tweaked the settings using the settings PENDRAG0ON posted. I have spent over a week trying to calibrate the settings just for the PS3 (360 already looked gorgeous on this set) Color, contrast and all that was there but It was missing that crispness that I was seeing on my 360. Using game mode was the last thing I wanted to use, if you set it to 16:9 then some of your image is cut off by a lot, but if you use screen fit it will just disable the Pixel Shift.. Game mode also looked too sharp and that is with Sharpness turned all the way down. IMHO game mode just looks like crap with ANY settings I use.

When you have been gaming for as long as I have you tend to know how these games are suppose to look. Maybe you should try changing it and see for yourself. For me it was like day & night. I wish i would have found this sooner, I just happened to mess around with my TV one day and notice my PQ change and I was shocked with how gorgeous the PQ looked.

Just tried PC mode, it looked like crap. Over sharpened with no way to fix it. Colors were also way off, it just didn't look good.

Something to remember, most PS3 multiplatform games run at a lower resolution than thier 360 counterparts.

One other thing, these tvs support 1080p, the PS3 should have recognized that when you first set it up.

Yup. Way better of using game mode and tweaking it from there. Maybe others have vision issues?

I haven't even been using game mode lately, since movie mode looks so much better.

No game mode means input lag. Sadly. I can feel the lag when the set isn't in game mode. So I kind of have no choice. PC isn't a bad idea since you do get different settings. But you can't really tweak em like it should look. I tweaked with game mode for a while. Looks perfect.

What are your settings? I couldn't get game mode looking right.

My comp died a few weeks ago so I'm using the PS3 browser for now, the onscreen keyboard is a pain to use.

Weird doesn't look over sharpened to me at all, I have the 42" inch if that makes a difference. When I set it to game mode, this is when it starts to look too sharp for my eyes. I tend to mess around with everything until it is perfect since I have OCD and decided to show my gf and she also noticed how much better PC mode looked.

Either way the PS3 will be hooked to a Sony Bravia 55" 1080p 3D (KDL-55HX800) that I am getting this weekend for the living room, the plasma will remain in my bedroom with the 360, so no need to sweat it i guess.

@JukeBox360 what settings are you using so I can compare your settings with mine.

I agree completely with iLLEST. Game Mode introduces edge enhancement that I cannot seem to disable. You can easily see the white halo around text on the screen. The PC mode however looks like a perfect 1:1 pixel mapping with zero processing. Clean and crisp. Don't understand what you are seeing pendragoon. I have the 50 inch version and it looks fantastic! I switched the HDMI settings to RGB and expanded on the XBOX and everything is calibrated to 0-255.
Too bad PC mode doesn't work for the Wii too... that component connection looks like complete rubbish!
You can turn all the edge enhancements and sharpness down. When I get home ill look at my settings and post em up.
For those simply using the built in speakers, which audio setting do you find best? Currently I have it on Movie as it seems to give the best sound, but I'd like to play around more with the equilizer If I knew more about those settings.

I just picked up the PN42C450 last night at BB. So far it's a nice set and a step up from my 32" LCD. I did notice it has a slight buzz like some have mentioned, but it isn't noticeable once the TV is on and turn the volume up a little. I do wish it swiveled like other Samsung sets. Not sure why they didn't include that on this model. I am not sure what settings to use to get the best picture and what settings are recommended during the break in period. Right now I have it set to this

Mode: Standard
Cell Light: 5
Contrast: 65
Brightness: 45
Sharpness: 50
Color: 50
R50/G50

Black Tone: off
Dynamic Contrast: off
Gamma: 0
White Balance is still stock settings
Color Space: Native
Flesh Tone: 0

Color Tone: Normal
Energy Saver: Low
