if the panel does not fix your problem will they replace your tv?

That's what the tech guy said. He couldn't believe they were dumb enough to leave this up there. Other than that and typical support center ignorance, Samsung has been very responsive and determined to make good. I don't doubt they'll fix the TV or replace it.

Is it still under warranty? i also wanted know if you still had that copy of 1008.3
if so can you email it to me, Tech support swears that it is the answer to my problems, I am starting a a major campaign over at Samsung to get this bug removed from their website this week and already they are getting tired of me.

Yes, I only purchased it a few months ago.

I never did get the 1008.3 myself. They sent 1008.2 through the mail for the 3rd attempt. Apparently, 1008.3 isn't compatible with my TV after all so their system wouldn't allow them to mail it to me, even though they tried. That's why they reverted to 1006.

So what now your left hanging with no solution?

Hi,

I have a Samsung 42C450. When I turn on the TV sound like a "click" and a sound, everything is ok. But sometimes, when the TV is turn off the "click" sound comes back. Do you know why?

Many thanks and sorry for my english!

Hey there - I sent the following to Samsung Support who came back with a (not surprisingly) unhelpful response. Has anyone had any experience like this with their PN42C450?

I have a problem with my set turning itself off while watching television programming. I have reason to believe that it is picking up light from the screen itself and interpreting this as a remote control command.

* Happens often on channels like ESPN when there are many fast, flashing transitions on the screen. It also happens on CNBC, where a stock ticker scrolls across the bottom.

* When the set turns off, the red LED blinks as if it has received a command from the remote. I have physically removed all remote controls from the room and the problem persists.

* Covering the bezel relief on the right and bottom with tape appears to reduce the problem, though it does not completely fix it.

* The problem happens more frequently when the display brightness is cranked up.

My firmware version is reported to be 1008.1.

I had the same thing happen to me a few times. The last time that it happened, i noticed that my cable convertor box had shut itself off as well.

Turns out that the cable box's 'Power Save Mode' was set to 'ON', if i stayed on the same channel the cable box shut itself off after a few hours, and the TV as well - i set it to 'OFF', no more problem with the set turning itself off.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've gone down that road without any luck.

I'm fairly convinced that this has something to do with light coming off of the screen... It has occasionally happened while watching a DVR'd show - rewinding & replaying the moment that turns the screen off will trigger it pretty reliably (say, 1 out of 7 times).

I personally like the eco sensor, because my eyes get strained with a bright tv in a dark room. Anyways, the tv seems to randomly dim and brighten, which is very annoying. It helped a little bit by raising the minimum cell light feature, but the problem is still there. Any ideas?

First thing I did was I hooked up my PS3 to HDMI/DVI input 1. It has to be the first one since this is the only one with HDMI/DVI.
On your remote press source and then tools.
You will see
"Edit Name"
"Information"
Go and choose Edit Name and Choose "PC"
When you're done it should look like this.

Also, this is amazing. You have to switch to RGB full, and it gets rid of overscan and is much more crisp. Thank you thank you thank you.

It's been a while since I've been here but I just had a recent problem. Sometime last week my Phillips Upconvert DVD player stopped working as an Anynet+ device. Meaning that when I used to turn on my dvd player it would turn on my tv and automatically go the hdmi port for the dvd, and when I turned off my tv it automatically turned off my dvd player. I don't know what happened but one day it was working and now it's not. I tried searching Anynet+ devices with the tv remote and it isn't recognizing it anymore. Does anyone know what it could be? BTW I have tried using a different HDMI cable and unplugged everything over still to no avail.
Other then resetting the settings in both devices, and changing cables, not sure what else you could do. If you could try using you DVD player with another anynet+ device or you Sammy with another anynet+ device just for troubleshooting purposes.

One thing you could do is try a firmware update on your Sammy. I received a letter in the mail today requesting I upgrade my firmware on my tv if I fall into a certain production run on the tv. If you have one of these tvs you could try the update to see if it alleviates the problem. Here is an attachment of the letter I received today.

update: Called Samsung tech support, apparently the update is they want me to do is the infamous 1008.2 up-date ..... so ..... ya. They do state model specifics in the letter, so maybe the models not listed in the letter are the ones who had issues with the 1008.2 update.

Not sure what else would constitutes an Anynet device. I just have my Samsung HD DVR connected and ps3 connected via HDMI. I'm already on firmware 1008 that I got from the samsung site a few months ago. How would I go about resetting my tv? I guess it's not really that big of a deal but I just miss being able to turn on my dvd player and the tv come on and vice versa.

Yikes, probably something wrong with the motherboard. Is it still under warranty? If not I guess it's true when they say plasmas last only 2-3 years lol. I think my next tv will be an LED no doubt.

If this only lasts 3 years I would never buy a Samsung again

Here we go again! Last year I had the dreaded Red Snow problem. After several firmware attempts, they finally replaced everything but the frame, pedistal and power cord. Now this year, as the one year warranty approaches there is a vertical red line from top to bottom about one third the way from the right of the screen. After trying the Firmware update (version 1008.2) that they sent by mail, the problem is still there. With another call to Samsung the same local repair service will be out next week. I have never seen a red line problem discussed here, but was wondering if any have experienced this issue. I really don't have much faith in this T.V., with two problems in less than a year, I was expecting it to last at least five years. This after my last Samsung(HPT4254) died after 2 years and needed a new power supply board. This will probably be my last Samsung T.V. needless to say!!

Well I might have another issue to add to the defective issues list...

My grandparents called me earlier this evening to say that their 42" PNC450 TV is displaying "weird colors" randomly, sometimes it also seems to turn itself off. They can turn it back on and it displays normally for a while longer.

EDIT: Via e-mail my grandfather confirmed that it is red blotches, not just any color... sounds like their TV has the red blotches issue.

I won't be able to troubleshoot until Friday. But has anyone seen something like this? I've read about the red dots and red blotches in this thread, but I'm not sure if it quite matches that.

I looked at my e-mails and wouldn't ya know it... I helped them buy the TV almost exactly this time one year ago. I've never had a problem with other TVs I've owned (though none of mine have been a Samsung plasma) so I had them skip the extended warranty.

Anyone have experiences with how Samsung would handle a repair out of warranty? It won't be a very fun experience telling my 80-something year old grandparents that the TV they just bought a year ago for $500 (which to people who lived through the great depression and are now on a limited retirement income, is a lot of money) is now beyond repair.

With the pretty widespread issues it seems these 2010 Samsung plasmas have I think Samsung should step up and actually repair/replace the TVs regardless of warranty status.

Certainly no harm in asking Samsung. If you registered the TV with Samsung on line I'm pretty sure you should have an extra 3 months (15 months total) of warranty - so you might actually be covered.
Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've actually bought two of these (one for my parents) and both have been trouble free. Ours actually lives outside (on a covered screened porch) so it been temperature cycled a bit and still works fine.
But call Samsung - today. I wouldn't wait even till Friday.

Doh! I forgot to register the TV with Samsung for the extra 3 months!

Just looked at the Samsung support site for the C450 series. I only see a "2010 PDP Firmware for S4 (version 1008.0)" from Feb 9, 2011 with no real release notes to speak of.
Does that mean that they finally pulled the 1008.2 firmware that seems to kill people's TVs? or is their version numbering on their site just out of whack?

Also do you think trying to flash their TV's firmware would be a good idea? I know they sometimes have the tech try and flash the TV when a service call is placed.

Chalk up another red dot/red snow issue...42" c450

My sister had red dots/red snow on her c450, but this was about 5-6 months ago when hers was still under warranty. Had the whole thing replaced.

Now mine is showing the same thing, but I'm out of warranty. BOOO!!

****EDIT: Seems disabling "Digital Noise Filter" got rid of it for now....More investigation into this needed.

I told my grandfather to call the Samsung support number today, apparently their TV is covered under warranty through November, they're sending someone out on Monday to look at their TV set. So I guess we'll see what happens.

I'm on live chat with samsung now about the 1008.2 issue. They think that I can get 1008.3. They sent me 1008.2 (supposed to be 1008.3) a couple of weeks ago and I've told them to verify that they are indeed sending 1008.3. I've been holding for 10 minutes so I think they are figuring it out, in as much as they are figuring out that 1008.3 isn't available. Will finish this post with what they say:
I'm supposed to be getting 1008.3 in the mail. Doubt it!

My serial number is on the list and the 1008.2 firmware is making my display progressively worse. The red blotch issue was corrected but introduced new issues, namely instant image retention and some of my pixels are going dead or sputtering. They're allegedly sending me 1008.3! They already sent 1008.2 under the guise of 1008.3, I bet they do it again.

DITTO, but I always leave DNR off.

Pardon me if this has been addressed before, but I've noticed whenever there is a bright spot in the scene, like headlights or flashlights aimed at camera, there is a halo effect.

On B/W material, like The Day the Earth Stood Still (original), when the tanks and other military equip. get zapped, there is a green halo around the bright, white light.

Also, when there is a a bright to dark transition in the pgm, the colors are stepped from light to dark, not the smooth, continuous transition I would expect.

Has anyone else seen this. Is this "normal" ???

FWIW, my set has started buzzing and I've got the red snow effect on power on, but seems to disappear when pgm material starts.

This is very distracting and annoying.

Of course, my set is out of warranty.

Thx for your response.

Ha, received 1008.2 by thumb drive from Samsung in the mail for the second time in a month. Looks like I'm scheduling a tech to come out...
Samsung tech came out yesterday and adjusted the power output settings. Evidently, 1008.2 causes the power settings to go 'way high' as he said it. He's having me run the scrolling function every two weeks for 45 minutes for the next 6 weeks, then once a month for 40 minutes.

The picture seems to be fixed for now. I'll have to put in some heavier use in the next few days to better evaluate.

Hmmmm. After the tech finally replaced my screen everything seems to look better after my fiasco with 1008.2. However, it does seem to 'burn-in' much faster that it did before. I find I'm running the scrolling pretty frequently and anytime someone watches something letter-boxed at all.

I wonder if I'm seeing the same thing. Is there something that might help, like lowering the contrast, etc? At least I've got the PS3 moved off onto another display. No more Lego Starwars circles burning in daily.
Earlier in this thread I made mention of my problem with the set picking up stray IR signals and switching the power off. It's finally happened enough times that I was determined to do something about it...

I created a new thread to track progress and possibly solicit suggestions; you can find that here.
