This confused me.
The B is last years model.
In a side by side comparison, is it generally considered better than the C in terms of picture quality etc.?

I'm curious if the new C-series level of buzzing can be linked to the "version" number on the sticker on the side of the TV....

I can't remember my other c450 version, but my new one which buzzes more is version: IY02
post #303 of 1729
Just a quick question. I'm hearing a conflicting report on c450 that it has 3-d sync out. Can anyone physically confirm this? Could some batch of c450 comes with 3-d sync out and some don't?

Yes that is for the PN42C450. The 50" probably has the same stand. It's a pretty big stand.

Hey, I was wondering the same thing. Mine is buzzing loudly (even from 12 ft away) and is the also version IY02.

Can other people check their version number?

My version number isn't IY02 and my buzz is noticable but not overly loud. It is worst with lost of white on the screen and nearly inaudible with dark scenes.

My version number has an N in it and ends in 02, I'll check it tonight for the exact number. Great, so it seems that even their Plasma sets have a Panel lottery.

Jumping to conclusions a little bit aren't you?

Not really, there is a difference in the type of buzz with the different panel types, so there is something going on. And with the LCDs there is a large difference when it comes to various panel types, Samsung has a history of doing this, so there is plenty of reason to speculate that they do this with their plasma sets as well. (Samsung is a very underhanded company after all)

A quick question to those with the IY panel type, what size is your screen?

Please list your screen size and Manufacturing date when listing panel types just for future reference just in case this does turn into a large issue.

I contacted Samsung about my new, louder buzz with my 42c450 (IY02) that I just received yesterday as an exchange. They will have a technician contact me.

About the panel, I thought about this too - I asked the Samsung guy on the phone and he said to ask the technician if they use different panels on the 42c450s. My previous model that only had a quiet hum was not of the "IY02" variety...the NY02 version sounds familiar - could have been that...

AND for some reason I have a small feeling that my other c450 had better PQ - more accurate colors (this one seems more fluorescent) and may have even been sharper. Could be me being weird, could be because this is new and the phosphors haven't aged for a week like the other model, or it could be a panel lottery thing. If anyone can, please list your version number and weather or not you are enjoying the PQ and if you have a loud buzz or a normal hum.

Mine is a IYO2 42' plasma. Hey what number did you call to tell them about the buzz?

I have the NY02 - 50" - No buzzing (unless put ear up to top/back of unit). Think you all may be onto something about the buzzing.

1800 - Samsung

They wanted to know my purchase date and serial number w/model. You may have to register the TV on their website first, I'm not sure...I did (and it has a 24month warranty even though documentation lists it for only 12mos). Anyway, I just told them I've been through two c450s, and the newest one has a much louder buzz than my other one. They set me up a ticket # and said a technician will call within 2-5days to set up an appt.

Thanks I just called but they had me fax over my receipt and told me to call back wednesday once everything has went through, said something about hhgregg didn't file the paperwork correctly or something. The lady told me to turn down my brightness and see if the buzzing stopped but of course it didn't. I'm going to also mention about my stand as well and try to get a new one. Let me know what the tech says when he comes out.
The end of my model number was B1DXZA and does not Buzz. I'm not sure if that's the same as the version number or not? I like the TV more and more each time I watch it.

I've heard the same reports and my TV PN50C450B1DXZA from Bestbuy did NOT have 3-D sync out. Not a deal breaker for me. If I want to see 3D I'll go to the movies

Called Samsung again and talked to a rep, and also got a call from the Samsung Technician:

. Samsung Rep said the IY02 designation refers to where the model was made. Interesting because if the IYs are buzzers, then we know one factory either has or is using inferior internals.

Samsung Technician called as well. He said plasma panels, due to the technology, will not vary within certain models. I forgot to ask if its possible that IY02 and NY02 locations have inferior/superior parts which could affect the buzzing issue - someone else can call to find out.

Samsung Technician also said the buzz is inherent to all samsung plasmas due to the component inside using the high voltage signal. He said the buzz can vary TV to TV, and he also said that after the first 200hrs, the buzzing will go down/reduce. He suggested I exchange the unit for another to see if I can find one with less buzzing. He said if he goes through with the repair ticket, Samsung will replace the power supply first, and that sometimes this makes the buzzing louder. He said the next set would be to replace the panel with a new one, but he said he couldn't guarantee that Samsung would approve a new panel replacement.

Nevertheless, I'll be exchanging this for another at HHGregg as I canceled my repair request. There are low buzzers out there, as my old one was fairly quiet....now we have to find out if its related to the "Version" number or where the model was manufactured/assembled. I'd hate to have to exchange this for an LCD or another 42" plasma (the LGpj350) as I think the PQ on this set is outstanding and will likely be much better than even some sets that are a few hundred dollars more expensive.

EDIT: And the stand on my IY02 was much easier to assemble than my NY02 - all screwed in securely and smoothly all the way down.

Look at the rear of your TV on the right hand side...There are 3 boxes and one will say "version" and the others will say "serial number" and "model" etc.

One strange thing. When I registered my TV on Samsung's website it said my warranty is (Warranty Information for PN50C450B1D - Parts : 24 months, Labor : 24 months) But if you do a general Google search for Samsung Plasma TV warranty and take that link to the website it says.

Plasma TV: 2 years except 1 year for panel (applicable only for 2005 manufactured model onwards)

Then below that it says

Plasma TV, Flat CRT, Colour TV: 2 years

So is it 12 or 24 months?

Samsung also said that the S/A/C LCD panels were where they were made as well, don't believe that BS line as it is the same thing that they told all the LCD people. They even had plants on here telling people that, right up until someone took a picture of an "A" LCD panel that clearly said AU Optronics on it. I don't trust any electronics company to be honest with the consumers at this point and I trust Samsung least of all.

Called my Samsung Tech again with regards to the IY/NY designation. He claims it could be where it was manufactured, but he said to his knowledge that designates the kind of software/operating system present in the TV. He said its possible that Samsung is using different parts with different software so I called my local retailer to see what they had in stock. They only had an IY in stock...looks like I may be playing the letter game with this TV...I'll try calling again later this week to see if I can nab up an NY version...otherwise I'll be getting a full refund....I'm hoping this isn't the case...

So, is there anybody with a loudly buzzing unit which is NY02?
So given the choice would you buy a lat years B or this years C?

I'd still take the C easily. Same blacks at nighttime (might be darker w/the C), but better contrast, deeper blacks in the day, better color accuracy, and more attractive design. No brainer to me. Even with my heavy buzz, I changed my mind and I'll play the exchange game until I get sick of it. The PQ for the price is simply too much of a bargain, and I can't stand the blur and purple/blue blacks of LCDs in this price range.

The only thing is may not be up to par with the B-series is in overall brightness, but thats kind of why I went with plasma instead of LCD - I didn't need in the brightness to compete with heavy sunlight...plus I end up turning power saving to "medium" at night to dim it further because it just gets too bright at night (eye burn ;p). Plus, the technician said the new C series is being manufactured on a new line from the '09 models and said there were some upgrades on the line with new tech....

I purchased a PN42C450 today. Brought it home and struggled with attaching the two parts of the stand base. The screws seem like they are just a fraction too big or something. I finally got the base completed and then tried to attach the base to the panel. Same problem with the screws, only worse. I can only get the screws in about halfway before they stop turning without superhuman effort. Any suggestions for the screws (I'd prefer not to power-drill them in)? The panel is sort of in place at this point, but I would feel better if it was a little more secure.

As for the picture, I used a mixture of the settings suggested by some of you on this forum and they are working great - so thank you very much for sharing.

I just wanted to tell everyone that I have the IY02 panel (says built in Mexico) and there is a definite buzz to the set. However, it is not so bad that I want to return the set. If I put my ear close to the screen, the buzzing is quite pronounced but from my viewing distance I hardly ever notice the noise (maybe once or twice since I've been watching). However, I definitely do not have the most discerning ear. For example, I think the speakers on this set are fine so just keep that in mind.

I could try and record the audio buzz from my set from different distances. Would that help anyone?

No need to post recordings. I think it would just overexaggerate the buzz anyway. It seems as though most (if not all) of these plasmas will buzz...the issue is the strength of the buzz at normal medium-level viewing through the TV speakers. People who have a heavy buzzer will know. It seems as though you have a Mild buzzer - they seem to have more of a hum than a voltage-sounding buzz. Congrats! Enjoy your set..the PQ is great...Blu-Ray PQ continues to blow me away...

Just to add a data point for those looking at the buzzing, mine is a NY02 and does not buzz. It's made in Tijuana, Mexico.
