Samsung PNXXc450 Owners Thread *NO PRICE TALK* - Page 12

doesn't it depend on what surface you put the tv as well? Wouldn't a glass surface produce a more audible buzz?
I'd much rather see screen shots. The picture is my main interest on this tv, as I havent seen any official reviews yet.
My biggest concerns before I purchase:

- reflection/glare (will this be too annoying)
- brightness (I like brightness like LCD's have)
- buzz (hopefully I won't hear it if I have sound coming out of the speakers)

Seems like every NY02 owner here either has no buzz or only a very faint buzz....All the buzzers so far have been the IY versions......looks like I'll be keeping an eye out for an NY02.

For others looking for an exchange or new unit, every TV has a white sticker on the box with 3 bar codes. Under one of the bar codes it will list the version number.

I'll have to take a look at that this afternoon and report back on the version number. Mine does not buzz. One thing I did notice was that the sticker on my box said that mine was made in Mexico. I would be interested to see if all the TV's were manufactured in Mexico or at other locations?

I believe both my previous NY and IY still had Mexico info on both...not positive...I will check later

Remember people, please include screen size with your panel version, we need to make sure that the IY02 isn't for the 42inch sets only first.

My set is a 50inch NY02 panel with an above average buzz, but not a deal breaking buzz. (above average means that you can hear it in front of the set from more than a foot away with normal content and the TV speakers at 10%)

Pen, I thought you said yours was not above average? That it wasn't audible at normal viewing distances and low/average TV volume?

My NY02 certainly had a hum - certainly could hear it more than a foot away, but at normal distance of 5-10 feet and volume around 5-12 it wasn't an issue.

My buzz has gotten quieter, but not overly so. I am using the average as what all of my Panasonic plasma sets produced, a buzz that could only be heard behind the set, even when muted.

I'll get some pics of PQ soon.

And for those of you having issues putting the stand together just use a drill. Obviously don't go full bore with it. I went nice and easy and my stand was put together in 30 seconds.
would the tv in box fit in the back of a van?

I just want to make sure - the screws are flush with the back of the panel on your set? I can't get them closer than maybe 1/8 - 1/4".

It fit very snugly in the backseat of my Toyota Corolla with my seats pushed up pretty far.

I've been through 2 c450s....On one of them I couldn't get the screws flush, but the TV was still plenty secure - wobbly if wiggled, but still secure. The set I just exchanged, all the screws fit in flush - if it bothers you I'd call Samsung and ask for a replacement backing/stand.

Let us know when you get things running with the set and what version/buzz you have...

We still haven't confirmed it, since people seem to forget to list both the panel type and size of the HDTV that the panel is in.

So far the only confirmed things are that the 42inch sets = IY02 panels and the 50inch sets = NY02 panels. Until a IY panel is found in a 50 inch model, or a NY panel is seen in a 42inch model, we haven't confirmed anything.
thought I stated I was working with the 42s....I've had the NY in the 42"...

42" IY02 = buzzer

42" NY02 = non/low buzzer

Yeah mine are flush.

I have the IY02 42C450 and I have NO buzz. Zero. Nada. None. Trust me I know all about the buzz, my Samsung 67" DLP has a mild one. Of course where I hear no buzz, another person could go "what the hell is that buzzing noise?"
I realized that I had my old 42" box in the basement still as I didn't take it with the TV for the exchange...turns out it indeed was a 42 IY02....so much for this theory....seems we're back to hit and miss buzzers....I'll probably exchange my set again either tomorrow or thurs...I've also realized that the PQ on these sets improves quite noticeably within even the first week of use....I got it early sunday and I'm already noticing improvements in PQ
post #351 of 1729
I purchased a 42" model last Saturday. I have the IY02 version and its buzz is audible from 15-20 ft away. It isn't bad for dark scenes but brighter scenes brings out a louder buzz that overpowers the audio of the program.

Let me know how it goes. I don't know if my hhgregg still has any in stock or not and I really don't feel like waiting on a replacement tv again. Either the buzz has gone down some or I am getting used to it cause it doesn't bother me as much anymore. I still don't know if I should keep it or not since I could always end up with a worse tv down the line. On a side note how do I know if I have a dead pixel? I was watching the biggest loser tonightand it looked like there was a minute spot on a tv that was just white and it would change places on the tv so ever often. I've been looking for it ever since and can't spot it again so I don't know if it was something on that person or the tv.

sears will price match. Buy from them and they'll give you 10% of the difference. Plus if you have the cash you can buy the open door 3 year warranty for $200 and cancel it within a year and get all your money back.

I brought it when it was on sale for $499 at hhgregg and printed out a $50 coupon for hhgregg so I don't think they'd match that price I paid for it. Plus it's just a lot of work to try to get a potential non buzzer.

Well the Tech. I talked to did say the buzz will reduce in volume after the first 200hrs, once the set has broken in..so its possible. It just makes me think that if I had kept my other mild buzzer, it would have gone down even more to be virtually silent.

My dead pixel was dark blue in color and sat right in the upper right part of the screen - easily spotted against a white background when up close, but not an issue at normal distances unless I was looking for it. I'm not sure dead pixels can be white though...but I'm not positive...

I noticed this as well. PQ is a lot better than the first day I brought it home.

Did you do any sort of break-in?

When my a450 was calibrated all the settings were right around the 50's anyway, so I took those. When I turn the contrast up it actually gives a worse picture IMO.

No break in...Contrast 70-75...Brightness 48-52....Sharp 0-5...Color 38-40...Contrast is good at 70-75 during the day, but at night the whites are really white (like on commercials with tons of white), so I turn contrast to around 60-65 with med.power saving

I like watching tv in a lit room. If I position my floor lamp (or floor lamps) against a wall behind this tv, would it cast reflections?

If it's behind the TV it won't be an issue. Mine lamps are actually in front of the TV off to the side and at night I don't notice any real glare. If it's positioned directly in your line of site then you'll probably see it. But for your set up It won't be an issue at all.
