How exactly does the VT2X have less chance of BI & IR than the G2X?

Cheaper plasmas tend to Burn in more then a mote expensive one. Unlike LCD. You do have to pay more for a set to have it have less chances or breaking or burn in etc. You really think the VT2X is 1000 more just because of 3D alone? Well, its not. Part of it yes. Specs might be about the same for g20 and vt2x but it doesn't mean there actually built the same. Or have the same reliability.

I dont know about all that. That set has 3d and also has upgraded pixels that die faster for the 3d. But if its a static image none of that matters at all anyway.

Just got delivery of my new G25 a few minutes ago...everything is in immaculate condition (even the shipping box).

May 2010 manu. date. Will start putting things together now and hold off lunch for a while

Most people will tell you and agree that with a plasma. The higher you pay the chances are your less likely to have problems. Why that it. I don't know. I can understand that statement. But to a point.

Congrats. Hope you like your set.

oh boy. So here is the deal. After 2 hours of bluray I went to the blue ray screen saver which is white near the bottom right corner and I could see the football player image still.

Would you guys consider this burn in or IR. and do you think best buy would swap it out?

If the image shows up while the screen is actually in use (i.e. a dark movie scene), then it is Burn In. Otherwise it's nothing.

So the G2X is 'cheap'? As far as I can tell it's the one of the most expensive non-3D out there.

What is your source for the differences between the G2x & VT2X?
actually "Burn In" is permanent those images that are left will go away after a while and is actually called "Image Retention" (IR).

by the way i just have to say. I am thoroughly dissapointed in this tv. I have a sammy pn50b650 in the main room, and a Panny 800u in the den. This TV is not all that great, i would rate it as the worst of the bunch......im planning on returning it soon as i can find a suitable replacement.

some things i have noticed in comparison (which is why i am returning it):

- the worst SD performer hands down. Even on those reruns that show on TBSHD, TNTHD it is obvious.
- i think the blacks are darker.....maybe??? ( thats how little of difference there is)
- colors are way to dull and look drab
- way too much grain
- oh yea, i cannot believe how soft the images are
- and yes i tried more than one setting in each category but the main two i used are THX and Custom.

before i start anything i just want to point out that i am not a fanboy like others on here. this is the second panny g20, so its not the set. I have no loyalty to any company and could careless, i just want great pq, never understood why customers have such loyalty to a product like they were the ones who made the tv or something. oh well. hope this helps to those in the market for a plasma

Uggg well I've run the sweep three times in a row now. Its still there. I'm going
to avoid the xbox for little while and see if it helps any.

If after 3 days its still around then I'll
call best buy and see what they say.

The wierd thing is I played like 10 hour gears of
war 2 sessions and never had this issue. This game I play 30 mins and there is IR? What the hell. The image was a bright blue and red image
so maybe thats it?

yea, wait til you play a ps3 game on it. good god! it is aggravating. however the best way i have seen to get rid of it is to go to a channel like cartoon network hd and then keep zooming in until the entire screen is filled with color. leave it there for like 10 minutes and it will go away completely
post #2981 of 8528
with the same
color or just zoomed in so no icons?

Congrats, I get my G25 tomorrow. Scheduled it for today, but Manna delayed delivery one day. Are you planning to do a break-in with the slides or just careful watching?

If it was just me then I'd do the slide route, but because my wife is involved too (and she won't tolerate not being able to watch right away) I'll just keep it in the THX mode with brightness/contrast turned down a bit and keep everything to fullscreen.

I'm just playing a bunch of 1.78:1 1080p videos at the moment and run it like that as much as I can.

I completely 110% agree with this comment. I have had 2 g25's and I took both back. The image is alright, but not the best. Definitely not nearly as great as people in this forum make it out to be. And to be completely honest, I have always been a fan of Panny plasmas and never really liked Samsung. Right now though I have a c450 in my living room and the picture looks better then the g25 did. Well said neverthesheep!!!!

dont feel too bad I'm stuck watching cartoon network zoomed In two times.
Still only see the IR on the scrolling bar screen. 7th time running the scrolling bar (not in a row, but haven't played BFBC2 since I started) I can still see the 030/090 ammo counter(granted, I have to be right up against the screen to see anything) Top left I can still see Singularitys Health/Eve 99 bars. Think I'll rent a movie tonight, see if it goes away.

hey man cartoon network worked
for me it really did! Knock on wood.

a question for you other g20 owners, did you receive the usb drive that is connectable to a keyboard with this tv? only reason i ask is because bbuy ended up giving my tv to the wrong house than ended up going back and getting it, so there was no box or anything

Please tell me your kidding. 1200 for a 50 inch 1080P plasma isn't a cheap set? Have you not looked at the market lately? Even other sets? The g20 is a clear cheaper set. Hence so many people are able to afford it.

If you are within your 30 days. You can return it regardless of your reason behind it. (Unless YOU broke it yourself)
oh my god so they took the tv to the wrong house and the person there accepted
it and watched your tv for a few days? Thats insane!

You must be doing something wrong. My SD performance is excellent. Images are clear and crisp. My colors pop and the image has a very three dimensional look to it on HD material. I see no grain and the blacks are excellent -- even if they rise over time they will still be deeper than most sets out there. I've seen no floating blacks and have heard absolutely no buzz.
Everyone who has seen the set has been amazed and ask "How did you get that picture?"

No magic on my part. I've noticed that each review of the TV comes up with different settings they consider best so there must be some personal taste added to each.

For the time being I've settled on the Home Theater Mag settings for dark room viewing:
Picture mode: THX
Contrast: 49
Brightness: 60
Color: 54
Tint: -3
Sharpness: 10
Color temp: Warm2 (Calibrated in the service menu)(This ofcourse has not been calibrated on my G25)
Color mgmt.: Off
C.A.T.S.: Off
Video NR: Off
Blur reduction: Off
Aspect adjustments
Screen format: Full (HD) or as needed (SD)
HD Size: Size 2
Advanced Picture
Block NR: Off
Mosquito NR: Off
3:2 Pulldown: On
24p Direct in: 60Hz

My TV is in a room with allot of windows and no drapes as of yet so during the day I leave all other settings as above but use the CNET Contrast and Brightness settings--Contrast 62 Brightness 68

I can't account for the excellent SD upconversion I am seeing as I've done nothing special. SD material is clearly not as good as HD sources, but as I said it is crisp and clear and clearly better than on my old 27" CRT.
My 54G25 had a May 2010 build date.

Everyone who has seen the set has been amazed and ask "How did you get that picture?"

i didnt want to turn this into a fanboy deal, i can understand that to many, just because something cost more/alot, they take that as in better...which is completely false. so im not going to call you a fanboy.

i have a question for you, how many HDTVs do you have? This makes my third, in the same house. People who can look at two different sets in their homes and call out differences certainly have more of an idea what their talking about, dont you think?

who said anything about floating blacks or buzzing?

"How did you get that picture?" so what your saying is they have another plasma equivalent to yours?

There is ZERO pop. like i said im not a fanboy of any company i want good picture, and unfortunately this doesnt have that. What good does a deep black do when all the other colors are so bland? It does have good blacks, but blacks arent everything. they may be the biggest piece to the puzzle but not the entire determining factor.

3d look, are you kidding me? im not even gonna touch that one.

and last but not least, which i will call complete BS on....even if the blacks rise they will deeper than most out there? Oh freakin please. yea deeper than that 400 50" from walmart maybe, they are not going to touch their own plasmas from 3 years ago, let alone the sammy's that are running around. That deepness after the rise is not even possible from the panny fanboys over at cnet, according to their numbers. remember its gonna rise three fold. and before that whole "all sets do this" if they did than panny wouldnt have gotten slammed the way they did, not to mention my panny 800u is still top notch. give me a break, we as consumers are paying money to these companies not the other way around. dont defend them because they did something good two years ago. call it like it is

as far as me doing something wrong, thats not possible. i have worked with these tv for too many years to mess up now. the things i look for in a tv are different from the average consumer.

and so that it could be known, and again to repeat. I do not care what company it comes from, or how good of a picture the tvs of the past had, i am concerned with now. completely objective. dont worry the sammys have their issues also.

Running Cowboy Bebop DVD's, hopefully the IR will go away. Bebop looks awesome.
We bought a G20 for my mom and I wouldn't consider it "cheap" by any means. There were two other Panasonic 50" plasmas right next to it that were slightly less expensive and a whole lot less expensive, respectively. Also at least one non-Panasonic plasma model that was cheaper in the same 50" size. Yes you can spend a lot more but nowadays the pricing of the G20/G25 is midrange at least. Heck I paid a lot less than that for a 50" Panny almost two years ago.
