Thread Starter
I'm the original poster of this thread. Just thought I'd pop in and say I'm coming up on 2 years with the set, and have no rising blacks, no floating blacks, no buzzing, no burn-in. I'm still so happy, I haven't even looked to see what's going on with the 2011 and 2012 models.

I have had mine nearly 2 years as well & I notice no Rising Blacks either. My set buzzes on bright scenes which is no big deal but the Floating Blacks have been awful on mine watching movies especially the 2.35:1 screen versions. I do use a LED light on the CATS sensor sometimes which kills the good black levels but stabilizes the picture.

You are fortunate that you don't notice the FB's though as I know if I didn't see them I would have loved this set. Sadly I was past my return before they became really apparent so I had to learn to live with them. Of course reading here & all the newer sets are plagued with some issue or other so I don't think there is a perfect set by any means now either.

I have just added a Panny Btt370 Home Cinema to a Panasonic TX-P50G20BA Plasma and a Humax FoxSat PVR. On powering up the Panny Home Cinema I set the input to Digital-In (Optical cable) from the Humax but when I then use the AV function on the TV to select Hdmi1 (from Humax) the screen turns green (sound but no picture). Selecting 'ARC' as the input on the BTT370 has the same result. Any ideas? I have the BTT370 coupled to the TV via Hdmi2 (ARC). Thanks.

The green screen is a result of a HDMI handshake issue. Turning on and off a device on either end of the handshake will usually fix it. I frequently get the green screen when switching back to my Comcast motorola DVR (HDMI1) from any other input. I either turn the TV on and off or turn the DVR on and off and then it goes away. I'm not aware of any way to stop it from occurring in the first place.

I love my G25 plasma. Mainly using it with my HTPC. But there's just one major flaw. This god forsaken red/blue striped line! The only time it appears is with dark greys, where it's accompanied by equally annoying dithering. Sadly it's been out of warranty for a good while, but is there still a way this can be fixed?

(And yeah...just overlook the burn-in on the bottom of the pic. It's really not that bothersome when actually watching movies, unlike that line.)

Hi guys, I was just wondering if anyone knows if our G20/25's will be getting the new Veira Connect apps that panny showed off at CES. For those of you that that don't know there's a new Flixster app, one from Disney, and a few others.

It's been one year strong and i'm still amazed at how good the picture looks.
Do you mean the app where our 2011 models can access any DVRs on the same network?

I have the same issue, but with a green line. My unit (TC-P54G20) is about 18 months old and out of warranty. I have seen several posts like this so it makes me wonder if there is a defect in the engineering. I have read it is the "A" Board that is failing. It sucks that these sets cost so much and begin to fail right after the mfr warranty expires !!! Anyone know how much the repair cost will be to fix this problem?

I just checked the service menu to see how many hours my tv has had, (I was thinking maybe 3000 or so) and it said over 54,000. The other stat said 989 times it had been turned on (that seemed correct). I know it's not over 54000 hours though because the TV hasn't been turned on for 6 years straight. Is this a common issue?

I tried mine the other day after months of non-use and it wouldn't work either. I did change the router but that really shouldn't have affected it.

Anyway, I got it working. Instead of Auto, I think I had to switch it to static/fixed IP and use an available IP in my subnet range. Worked fine after that.

I had to make the same change to my Panny BD player to get it to connect.
I'll try that. How do you find an available IP in your subnet range?

Do you have to fill out primary DNS and secondary DNS too?

I have had a 42G25 since 2010. I searched this thread but was really not able to find an answer. Last night, I turned in my TV and it was fine. Then as I was watching it, the entire screen turned green. I could still see what was on the TV(The Godfather II) but there was a green "film" over everything. I changed the channels, same thing. I turned the TV off and on again and it fixed the issue. My question is, does this point to something bigger? I already had to replace one board about a year after I bought it and if I have to replace something else, I may just buy a newer TV. Has anybody else had this happen? if so, can you please share what caused it and if it is a major problem.
Thank you.
P.S could this be a HDMI handshake problem? I admit I have no idea what that means. Would a new HDMI cable fix the issue or is it something wrong with the TV.
If it were an HDMI handshake issue you wouldn't get any picture at all. If possible, try a non-hdmi input and see if the green screen still happens.

Hi,

Does anyone have a fading horizontal white line under the screen that is brightest by the word "Panasonic" fading out as it heads towards each side of their TC-P50G20?

I don't know if it came that way or got that way.

OK, I admit that I made a mistake. I am running an S-video cable for my cable box not an HDMI cable. Everything is switched through my Integra. Can a S-video cable just go bad like that? I intend to watch some TV tonight then if it happens, I can switch to my BR player and see what happens then. Thanks for clearing up the handshake thing Richter.

I don't know if it came that way or got that way.

It's the same styling on my 50G25, always been that way.

I had a strange experience today with my G25 today.

Setting the picture mode to "standard" causes IR interference with my cable box's IR sensor, it will sporadically accept commands from the remote control.

The TV and the AV receiver do not get affected when this happens.

I am aware that plasma displays can cause IR interference but it is so strange that only one video mode causes problems.

Standard is a power saving mode but I wonder what about it causes IR interference compared to other picture modes?
I watched a total of 4 hours last night. Some cable TV and then a DVD. The "problem" did not come back. The picture looked fantastic as ever. Hopefully it was just a fluke thing.
Well, similar to a previous poster on this page, our TV 'popped' while powering down today. Won't turn back on, just flashes the red power indicator 10 times. The really irritating thing is that it is 3 months out of warranty. I really hope this isn't a more widespread issue for folks as that kind of lifespan is pathetic. We use the TV a lot, granted, but that's no excuse for this kind of problem.

I'm extremely glad I purchased a square trade 3-year warranty. Now here's hoping they replace or repair it as promised.

It's too bad as I've loved this TV, picture was absolutely fantastic.

Hey guys,

I've been looking for the latest firmware for the tcp50G25 for a while and Panny's site is still showing V3 from sept 2010. Is it really the latest version for a canadian set?

I've read on this topic that some users can have MLB tv through vieracast. Is that true?

Sorry if the question has been answered but the last time on read this thread there was 122 pages and now there's 282 so I can't read it all.

Thanks

I'm in the U.S. and 3.720 is the latest FW. MLB TV, NBA Gametime, MLS, and NHL are the sports widgets currently available on my set.

Licensing & rights arrangements for Canada might be different than down here. At least you have better health care than us

Does the G20 have audio channel return as a feature? My AVR does, and I want to make sure before buying a HDTV antenna.

I'm curious, what would cause you not to get an antenna? What are you doing where you would choose not to get reception?

Hello,

I have owned the tc-p54G20 since early may 2010 and have not had any issues with it at all. Very happy with the purchase, slight buzzing on mute but nothing major. buzzing can change depending on what colour shows up on commercials etc. .white producing a little more buzzing. Anyway, just wanted to know if there is an update on the black levels decreasing on these t.v's. Watching blu rays the black levels still look as good as when I first bought the t.v., but maybe my eyes have been accustomed over the last two years and blacks have decreased. Does anyone have any measurable info. on the black levels over the last 2 years. thanks.

I have been a very happy owner of my 42" G25 since March of 2010. Recently, I started having video drop to grey static after 30-45 minutes of viewing, I first suspected the Blu-Ray player of going bad, but then I had issues with the Xbox playing movies (oddly, but not during video games) and the iMac playing movies. Until today, everything has run into a sony HT and then out to HDMI 1 on the TV. Yesterday I moved the HT input to HDMI 2 and I just experienced the signal drop again while using the iMac. I don't think the issue is the Sony HT because I experienced this once on the blu-ray player while running direct to the TV's HDMI 1 input.

Finally I can't always replicate the issue. Today I have taken the HT out of the signal path and testing multiple components to see if I can get a repeat occurrence on all 3 HDMI ports.

Has anyone else heard of HDMI issues? what should I expect as far as repair is concerned? Thanks for any help.

+1

I have my OTA function hooked up to my Pio vsx-1121. With my remote programmed to switch the inputs I can switch back to OTA in those rare rain fade events and have audio fully functioning through the AV amp and my 7.1 surround system.
