The Official Panasonic G20/25 Owner's Discussion Thread [no price talk] - Page 283

Folks, I need some help.
I have a TCP54G25 for about 1 1/2 years now. The TV will not turn on and the red LED is constantly blinking. The blink rate
is about 3 seconds or so. The only way to stop it (the blinking) is to pull the power cable.

I looked at the service manual but it's not clear as to what it could be. I can replace a board if needed (I already had replaced the A board).

I've had a 54G25 for almost two years now and am really happy with it. I've a couple of questions that have come I hope someone can answer for me.

Does the screen have a plastic or glass surface? I would like to know so if I have to clean it I won't scratch it. I know they should both be cleaned with no harsh chemicals and a non-abrasive cloth but if it's plastic I don't really want to ever clean it!

Is there some way to get Netflix to play at higher resolutions? It looks like crap right now and I am on a wired broadband connection.

TIA

Some content I think only plays in SD. But you can check on your account page through Netflix's website, there's an option which sets the preferred streaming quality. Mine for some reason was set to 0.3 GB an hour which resulted in very bad quality so I upped it all the way. Give it a try.

For higher quality pictures, there is a setting on your Netflix account page. You must log in from a computer and got to to: Your Account & Help>Settings>Manage video quality>Select BEST quality. When you stream Netflix, if there is no 'HD' noting on the movie info then you'll most likely going to get crap quality, especially with anything that's offered from 'Starz Play' and certainly not worth watching. Some other SD contents are pretty good too but nothing like HD. Sometimes HD contents can look blurry due to slow internet speeds, and whenever they are being buffered. The best way to connect is to use an ethernet cable. Wireless connection can cause slow speeds and other issues. By the way, are you using a 'WD Live Streaming' wireless device?

Sorry, forgot about your screen question. I'm sure it is hard plastic and almost like glass. But to be safe ALWAYS use water or lightly soapy water (dish-washing liquid). It's better just too stick with a damp cloth towel.

G25, anyone know what the problem is here? Blue-green and red bars? All inputs.

I have a variety of ways to stream Netflix to the TV but I am just referring to the built in Netflix app in the TV, it's almost unusable. Off my Roku or Blu-ray player it's HD though. I checked my account settings and I don't have any of the quality settings selected but I haven't had a chance to test before and after selecting yet. Thanks for the info, I hate to clean plastic screens as they never really seem to come completely clean without enough pressure/rubbing to keep them from scratching.

I had a problem just one month after purchase. Rows of colored dots started appearing across the screen. It got worse over time. The "A" board had to be replaced.

I had a similar problem in July 2010. The A board, the one with all the input connectors, was replaced.

I hate to ask this, but how much does such a replacement usually cost?

I don't know, I had it replaced under warranty. A local electronics repair shop could give an estimate.

Hi, the firmware page on the Panasonic site

http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/tv/download/fw/down_navt.html

Is no longer available, I tried searching within their site without success, any hint?

Thanks a lot rolleyes.gif

I had that problem when I switched to THX mode (ever time).
Also, I had the dashed, horizontal, red line on the bottom half during all times.

It was the Main board (A-board). Replaced with one (two since the first one was defective also) and
the issue went away.

Check out eBay if you want to do it yourself.

Good luck.

Picture mode was on THX. Changed to other picture modes and the bars are on all modes except standard.
Standard picture mode looks normal.

I have had the GT25 since 2010. The image was great when I first got it. I could make out everything in dark scenes and used the preset THX mode for my picture settings.

Over the last few months a dramatic change to image brightness or contrast has occurred. In night time scenes or dark scenes it is very hard to make out what is going on.

This seems to have happened almost over night. Adjusting the brightness or contrast does not seem to really do much at all. Any idea what I can do or what is happening? Thanks

on what kind of content? BD or tv? How many hours do you have?

Does anyone else have flickering on certain parts of static images?

I get very noticeable flickering on the background surrounding the items on the bottom left here at full 1:1 resolution on my computer (which doesn't show up when connecting it to another display with the same cable):

http://eruditass.minus.com/mZtrf28hY

When zooming in/out with Chrome, the effect is much less flickery and more like the plasma grainy noise. The effect is also reduced when lowering the screen brightness.

I tried taking a video but it looked horrible with the rolling shutter.

Does anyone else get flickering on their G20/G25 on those images/websites?

My 50" G20 just suddenly stopped working a couple months ago. It was working the night before and when I turned it on the next day: Nothing. I had a tech come out and tell me to change the P-board, which I have done. I also changed the Sc-board and the A-board. Upon changing all of these I still don't get any picture. I feel like I'm already so invested in it that although I want to give up I simply can't with a clear conscious. I want to figure this out! How can I figure out what exactly is failling? I'm currently getting 10 blinks. I guess the ss board would be next or the su/sd boards but I rather not shoot blind and waste money anymore.

In the tech manual it says there are leds on both the sc and ss boards. I have seen the one on the ss board, sometimes it lights up and sometimes it doesn't. I've never seen the one on the sc board light up. What's next? Panasonic offered no help on this 1.5 yr old set. I find the whole situation ridiculous (buying a 1300 dollar tv that only works a year and a half).

Please help!

I suggest getting as many people as possible to read your post. Starting a new thread will get you there.

Good luck.

My G20 stopped working (10 blinks on the LCD display). Just wondering what the best way to go about fixing the problem. I see that the service manual says it could be multiple issues. Set is less than 2 years old but obviously out of warranty. Do I even deal with Panasonic, try a DIY, or just call a tech?
just got a used g20 50".
Previous owner has named hdmi inputs "HDMI1 (sat tv)" etc.

How do I rename the AV inputs?

PS, I was not aware of the problems with dots. I hope I don't run in to that

Press the Menu button on your remote, then go to the Setup menu (looks like a crescent wrench):

Menu > Setup > Input Labels

You should browse through the user manual to get familiar with your G20. Download here:

Have you tried unplugging it? I had a similar problem with another Panasonic. I can't remember what the count was on the flashing lights, but I thought it was toast. Apparently hooking a pc via hdmi in the back was causing problems. If you use the front input, it doesn't do it. I think the fix was to unplug it.

There are owners of the European TX-P42G20E model (or TX-P50G20E)?
I hope for your help. Please copy TV settings to the SD-card and send files to me. The instruction in attachment. 1.jpg 144k .jpg file hotel.zip 0k .zip file

Hi guys,

Wondering if someone can help me please? I have a 42" G20 which I got from Costco probably getting on for a couple of years ago. It has all been working fine until recently when it has started to fail to record to USB HDD (I think it's a 2TB WD HDD, but I'd have to check). It seems to record the first 5 minutes or so and then cut off before a program finishes or at random. Has anyone had a similar issue please and if so what did you do to solve it (I have done a search on this forum and google and turned up nothing useful)?

We have two young twin girls who occasionally manage to get hold of the remote (I keep it out of the way on the whole but the missus is not always so good) - I spent a good 15 minutes today trying to turn off Audio Descriptions (which were highly confusing when watching Top Gear!) so there is a possibility that they may have changed a setting!

I am pretty tech savvy so you can be as technical as you like in your reply, but this one has got me stumped! Any help gratefully appreciated (before I wipe my HDD with about 700MB of content on it!)eek.gif

Regards,

Mark

^^^

I know some EU models can record, but I wasn't aware US models could record to USB!

What menu functions allow this and what container formats are used for the resulting video?

I have 2 year old p50g25...and I am planning to ditch the dish and go OTA and streaming.

When I connected the indoor antenna directly to the TV, and ran the autoscan...it couldn't pick up any channels...but when I used the same antenna but connected through an STB its picked channels.

Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance

EDIT: figured that I set the service provider to cable instead of Antenna ...eek.gif
