Cnet did. No negatives, with it on it gives you a full 1080 lines of motion resolution.

Thanks for the info I guess i'll keep it on.

Elwaylite, do you know how to navigate the service menu once you get there? I'm coming from an understanding of Sony service menus, so I don't know which buttons will select and change color values. I'm trying to put in D-Nice's settings.

Thanks

I used to, but it's been awhile. I thought once you got in there, the Key for the number commands was on screen.

Here is one, if you look at page 4, it has them:

https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=h...ationguide.pdf

1,2 Main select
7 color temp

etc...

Those are referring to the number keys on the remote. Just make sure you write everything down before changing.

Doesn't seem to be coming up. Could you try and repost?

I'll check around.

Thanks

Since it has a grey front filter, it can make it difficult to enjoy viewing on this set outside of dim room environments.

Outside of the black filter and a THX mode, the S and G are pretty similar.

Interested to hear your thoughts on the VT25

I think to view a google docs link, you may have a google account, dunno. When I clink that link, it loads right up.

So CNet is your bible ? lol. Why didn't you just check with CNet before you purchased the S2 ?
Um, IIRC, the VT25 is a great TV, but not the best 2D ever. Kuro still takes that. Also a little unfair to compair the S2 and VT25, especially considering price.

I've got a google account and it still isn't coming up for me.

Ah, the genuises at this site are filtering one thing out of it, so it blocks the link. Nice

Do a google search for:

panasonic plasma service menu commands

And clink the link thats a few down, that says:

Guide to Calibration of Panasonic Plasma TC-P42S1

LOL, can't believe I didn't notice the line of ***** in the URL. Thanks, I found it via google.

Do you have any input into kreepy and my dilemma listed above?
Only way to properly compare them, is to get some average user menu settings for both, and put the S2 in Cinema and the G in THX, and then compare.

Well, I know for a fact that the G25 looks better than the S2. That's not the issue for me. I was wondering if the price difference between the two is justified, considering that I'm only planning on using the TV as a main TV for maybe a year or two, after which it will become a bedroom TV.

But maybe that's I question only I can answer.
I'd buy the better one for THX mode, if you arent getting it calibrated. No buyers remorse.

I wanted at least a 58", so I did not even look at the G series.

While I wouldn't get it professionally calibrated, I'd use DNice's settings and also S&M to do calibration myself.

Well decided to do it, went and ordered the P50S2 ... Should be here this week. Means i'll move the 42 up to my room after I get it fixxed. Guess a broken TV was a good excuse to buy a new one. Can't wait to get this in. If it gives me the same picture or of course better picture then my 42PZ77U, I will be a VERY happy camper.

The G20 has a better AR filter, which helps preserves blacks in well lit rooms. The G20 also has a THX preset mode, which is more accurate in respects of color. The S2 can be dialed in to look very good, but you need to get into the service menu and dial in the white balance menus there. Green and blue are tough to dial in properly in cinema mode simply in the standard menu. I ended up playing with callibration discs and finally resorted to pausing a football game I was watching and using my Pioneer Kuro and Samsung 860 as reference. I could not get green accurate in the standard menu and had to really play with white balance settings.

With a little work, it's a hell of a set.

It is a great set. After using D-Nice's reference settings, I'm amazed at the performance/cost ratio this tv offers. I've got the gamma changed slightly, so it's closer to 2.2-23ish- had to eyeball it from other displays and memory.

I usually only watch films at night, so the filter doesn't really bother me. There's no way to properly compare the S2 and the G25 unless it's in a dark room, with both tvs calibrated to industry standard. I'd venture to say it's very close.

So using D-Nice's service menu adjustments aren't enough? I would then have to do additional white balance adjustments?

Also, what do you make of the "floating blacks" issue on the G25?

Thanks for your, well, rude comment...

And I did check with CNET before I purchased the S2

And I checked with CNET before I purcahsed the VT25

And I will check with CNET before I purchase my next TV...

How is that, A-hole?

If you have nothing constructive to add to the thread, kindly keep your rude, snide comments to yourself... those of us who actually come here for information and to actually help others would appreciate it...

Ok, yes, you are correct

They stated that the VT25 was the best 2D TV they ever tested, beside the Kuro, which is no longer being made and whose technology was purchased by Panasonic.

The S2 is a great tv for the money , you come on here slamming it compared to the VT25 then get your panties in a wad , grow up !

Go post how superior the VT25 is on the VT25 thread , don't come here slamming a tv that others enjoy.

Fist of all, A-hole, my post was a direct response to someone else's post lamenting whether they should get the S2 or G model - others on here are posting on whether to get an S2 and a VT25...

So I posted my experience - sorry if that bothers you...

Second, I did not "come on here slamming it"...

I said I purchased it and the picture was, well, not all that good...

I wish someone would have posted that for me to read before I purchased the S2!

In any event, again, if you rude people have nothing constructive to add to the thread, keep your rude, argumentative comments to yourself!

And yes, the S2 is a great TV for the money...

Sorry if this was already answered but I couldn't find it in a search...

Has anyone been able to unlock 24p playback w/ out using 3:2 pulldown?

Thanx!
AFAIK, you cannot unlock 24hz playback.

Let's get back on topic. No sense arguing with someone that did not do their research, thinks a tv looks bad that actually looks pretty good, then paid almost 3 times as much for the replacement, and is now happy.
Well I think I'm screwed with with burn in on my P50S2, which really bums me out. Panasonic states it is not covered under warranty, but I am going to try to call them this week and see if they will do anything for me.

My two biggest gripes are that
1) My previous cheapy Vizio Plasma has been through more static images and suffered no consequences over 4 years of use.

2) I have played Forza 3 for 4+ hours and there is no burn in of the Forza HUD.

The two objects burned in are the Cartoon Network logo... which couldn't have come from a paused image because my Dish Network overlay isn't burned in.

And a game HUD from Banjo Kazooie, which gets played maybe 8 hours a week... maybe.

It is hard to capture it in pictures, but the logos are pretty obvious anytime you have a lighter color background.
